To think it's easier to do the exercise class than it is to get the fecking sports bra on and off

sleepwhenyouaredead · 27/07/2022 22:48

I'm still sitting in my gym kit 3 hours later as I have not got the residual energy to wrangle myself out of the sports bra.
Different makes seem to make no difference
It's so bloody uncomfortable I'm tempted to get the scissors and just cut it off
Advice??

The shock absorbers with the front zip are good.

but seriously, it’s another thing men don’t have to contend with isn’t it!

HerRoyalNotness · 27/07/2022 23:22

Yep, I could never get out of the zipless ones. I got some front zips ones, life changer!

dementedpixie · 27/07/2022 23:26

I like panache ultimate underwired and it fastens like a normal bra

londonmummy1966 · 27/07/2022 23:28

I gave up on the really high impact bras and now wera a normal underwired bra underneath a Freya underwired sports bra - the two together seem to work and as the Freya is a standard U back it is OK to get out of - although I still feel I've done a work out by the time I've got it on.....

girlfrien · 27/07/2022 23:31

Ha ha. Hard to get on I agree but great when they are on.

spanishsummers · 27/07/2022 23:35

Mine is a bravissimo with hooks and I feel your pain! They're intentionally very tight in order to hold everything in place, so difficult to remove.

SunshineLoving · 27/07/2022 23:45

I got a really good one from Asda about a year ago. It has cross over straps at the back and you just put it on like a jacket, do the two clasps up and zip up. Really supportive.

I've not seen one the same style since I bought this one.

After I've washed it the straps get all tangled up and it takes me about 15 minutes to sort it out but otherwise it's amazing.

Bubblebubblebah · 27/07/2022 22:56

I got zip in a front and adjustable shoulders after exactly this happened to me. I did at one point make peace with the option of just living in the old one forever, then I cut it up....

Exactly the same

I once did an exercise class then stiffened up and couldn't take my bra off. Zip front is a game changer! And so comfy wish normal bras were zipped at the front

caringcarer · 28/07/2022 00:29

I actually can get mine on but after sweating have to ask DH to undo it at the back. I contort myself trying to do it myself. I need to get a better one.

brokengoalposts · 28/07/2022 00:35

I have the ones like a tight best/crop top, no fastenings. I dip one elbow through the arm hole and then slide off over my head and then off the other arm. Only way I can get them off.

MargeIsBack · 28/07/2022 00:37

I had this problem for ages, tight enough for sport and then I could barely get it off then I suddenly realised that rather than taking them off straight over the head so trying to get the band up, I could just put my arm down inside the arm hole (basically hand to armpit and down) and then it slides off the shoulder and over the head. Then I got angry that I’d been wrestling with then for so many years.

lastminutedotcom22 · 28/07/2022 00:53

I always buy mine from M&S always with hooks and eyes on them and they're always fine to get on/off and super comfy I'd highly recommend them. My friend bought some very expensive ones with no fastenings and ended up with the kitchen scissors on one 😂

sleepwhenyouaredead · 28/07/2022 05:56

V helpful everyone
I'll try the arm down technique and definitely look for a zipped one!

Agree that shock absorbers with that stupid second closure across the shoulder blades are impossible to put on or off on your own. I was so raging at this I even emailed their customer service and got no reply. Designed by a man surely. If you live alone how the F are you meant to wear it. It’s one of the worst product designs I think ive ever seen!!!

BarrelOfOtters2 · 28/07/2022 06:27

I liked the zip up front ones till I exploded out of it in an exercise class…everyone got an eyeful.

I put it on back to front, do you both hooks and twizzle it round so the hooks are at the back, then put arms through.

I can't get out of it again without help though. It doesn't twizzle back after I've sweated.

I swear by the Anita sports bras to keep my 34Hs contained for high-impact stuff. They are the style of a normal bra and as I have no mobility issues I’m used to hooking bras up at the back and taking them off the same way:

NetWithHoles · 28/07/2022 07:11

I struggle to even get into them!

😂 that's my fear so I've never brought one and now I definitely won't lol!

I hate getting out of my sports bra, it's a proper challenge! Although pulling sweaty leggings back up is a nightmare too (if I need the loo during a workout or when I go to leave).

Amdone123 · 28/07/2022 07:33

@BarrelOfOtters2 , 🤣
This happened to me, but thankfully I was in my bedroom. The bra survived the zumba çlass, I got home and was stretching a bit ( more because I was so pleased with the bra), then all of a sudden it pinged open and snapped. I was instantly reminded of the scene in Carry On Camping! Poor dog got a fright.
I'm not buying zip up front again.
Thanks for the m n s and runderwear recs. Off to purchase.

Lemons1571 · 28/07/2022 08:03

Decathlon do normal bras with fastening at the back that I find very supportive. I can’t wear those all in one sports bras, as my boobs seem to fall out underneath the elastic band. No matter how tight it is!

LammasEve · 28/07/2022 08:09

I bought one with hook and eye fasteners all the way up the front. Much easier to get off, especially after a long run when I just fall on the bed and undo it so it falls off!

I tried a full zip fronted one but my boobs are too big for it to be comfortable, it was as hard wrestling them into that bra as it is getting out of a back fastening one.

I'd recommend Boobydo too, they have a great range and even go up to my size 😀

@PurpleDaisies The ones I have look like the shock absorber style but maybe the fabric is less rigid and more stretchy so you can get them on and off easily. I'm happy to chuck out what I have - I just don't want to replicate the mistake

Actual Shock Absorber bras have hooks and an easy clip at the top of the running bras (if you really can't do it, then you can just leave it open - it's still got good enough support even without being held racer-back)
The Active style have just hooks (as they're not racer back)

I think you'll struggle to find any brand with racer-back that doesn't have an upper strap closure (some brands are just sewn and they really do require contortionists!)

Sunnysideup · 28/07/2022 08:18

back fastening works for me, I gave up on the pull over the head ones after humiliating myself in a gym changing room trying to get one on, although I’m sure the women there were sympathetic as I got my self into all sorts of contractions with my tits hanging out trying g to get it on. Ended up purple sweaty and had to have a sit down after.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/07/2022 08:19

The other variation on exercise clothing that's a greater workout than the actual exercise is getting on a full wetsuit for cold water swimming... then worse trying to get it off when the shivers kick in 😂
Definitely any kind of bra-less after any kind of neoprene and probably commando too as even pants rolling up exceeds clothes manipulation skills at that point 🤣

My norks aren't the biggest, but my back and shoulders have broadened with age and there's certain crop top bras that have nearly been removed with scissors after they roll up out of reach behind my back. Bastards.
