To think that the film Bohemian Rhapsody….

……portrays Freddie as being absolutely captivating?

The days of Queen were when I was very young so although I knew of them (my mum liked them) I never paid much attention to them.

But I watched the film earlier and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, I couldn’t look away from him. The Actor who plays him is fantastic but I just can’t get over how arousing, mesmerising and sexually alluring he portrayed Freddie Mercury to be.

My mind feels blown!

Is that actually what Freddie was like?

I haven't seen it yet but Rami Malek is a fantastic actor and was great in Mr Robot which we loved. I saw Queen live in Slane many a moon ago when I was only 17. May watch it this weekend. So sad the way he went and he was a fantastic artist and was captivating on screen. Remember Live Aid and how amazing he was. He just had amazing stage presence and to this day some of their song are just unreal.

Skoolsout · 27/07/2022 22:04

A 10/10 film

HappySonHappyMum · 27/07/2022 22:08

Bohemian Rhapsody is far superior in every way to Rocket Man in my opinion!

minesalargered · 27/07/2022 22:09

Not a fan of the film, other than the performance of Remi Malek, given it doesn't follow in any meaningful way the actual story of Freddie's life or of Queen but a huge and enduring fan of the man himself, and his genius

ShirleyJackson · 27/07/2022 22:11

I was a huge Queen and Freddie fan as a kid, and I had a really strange reaction to the film. I found most of it a bit cheesy, but enjoyed it in a slightly ironic way.

But oh my God. The last twenty minutes, where they show the Live Aid performance?

Proper ugly crying. Sobs. In the cinema. It was like someone turned a tap on and I just couldn’t stop it.

Florenz · 27/07/2022 22:12

I thought it was a terrible film. And I like Queen.

jazzybelle · 27/07/2022 22:14

FM, Queen and BR are all brilliant. FM was a gift to Queen. They came together as great musicians and a fabulous creative, charismatic singer. They did some excellent videos. What did Coronation Street spoof? That was great.

That said, Queen found another wonderful singer in Adam Lambert.

Both Freddie Mercury and George Michael were talented people but also very kind people.

@TerryIsAllGold that is wonderful, thank you. Two amazing performers with total respect for the other. How amazing it would have been to see them perform! Just such a legacy left by both.

As to the 'creepy' comments- lazy homophobia. A flamboyant gay performer, who when out of stage persona was a shy man not allowed to be his true self. Unfortunately the music industry has not really moved on when it is considered keeping people in the closest is good for sales.

@willstarttomorrow Isn’t it just fantastic. The sheer joy is fabulous and I never tire of watching it. I think it’s such a shame the performance isn’t more widely know. I found it by accident one day, I had the track on CD years ago (on a Best of Tim Rice album - I have eclectic and slightly random tastes 😀) and suddenly wondered if there was a video of it. I was absolutely transfixed.

Mangogogogo · 27/07/2022 22:18

All the members of queen, the people who knew Freddie and other stars said he portrayed him really well and I think they’re the ones you would need to listen to really as they knew Freddie personally. So I’d say yea.

me and my son are massive queen fans and he is 11 so well after Freddie’s time and he is just captivated by him.

i think a lot of people don’t like the openly camp as hell thing but I absolutely love it!

StRaphael · 27/07/2022 22:19

Slight aside but I recently watched The Unheard Tapes (I think?) on BBC iPlayer about the AIDS epidemic. Really fascinating as from a different perspective than I’ve heard before and so very sad. I was thinking about Freddie when I watched it.

Fenella123 · 27/07/2022 22:21

I didn't rate the film at all, being old enough to remember the real thing. It did make me go back to watch interviews and concerts with the real man himself.
To think that in the 70s one of the biggest stars in the world was a bi bucktoothed Parsee who "wanted to bring ballet to the masses"! Not a saint by any means but a unique character with enormous talent.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 27/07/2022 22:22

I saw Queen live in 1981 and again at Freddie's last ever live performance at Knebworth in 1986. Yes, he was an incredible performer. I also loved the film especially the live aid concert section which is very close to the real thing, I watched it on TV at the time and many times since. I have been watching a documentary on Netflix tonight about the man behind the stage character, that was interesting to hear about his early life. I don't think he was good looking but he was very charismatic and you couldn't take your eyes off him when he was performing.

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/07/2022 22:34

I've never seen the appeal, personally. All I see is his overbite.

Mapletreelane · 27/07/2022 22:39

I watched with DD12 a few weeks ago and she has since foregone Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo for Killer Queen and Good old. Fashioned Lover Boy. She is just constantly listening to Queen at the moment . So great to see new generations discovering the music.

As an aside, I thought the actor who played Brian May was superb too. Looked and sounded just like him!

Okbye · 27/07/2022 22:39

It was 100% worth seeing Bohemian Rhapsody in the cinema just for the Live Aid performance at the end! Just spectacular! 🤩

Scrapper142 · 27/07/2022 22:44

I enjoyed the film, but when the credits rolled and it quickly did a write up of Live aid to Freddie's death. I thought, that's the film I want to see. I kind for hope for a sequel that is just Freddie.

Belledan1 · 27/07/2022 22:47

My dad used to make me dance to radio gaga when little. I hated them and thought for the oldies. But after watching them on you tube particularly liveaid and the film I realise how talented they were.

whynotwhatknot · 27/07/2022 22:52

yes he was im still sad he was taken so soon

the film isnt very accurate though i dont know why brian and roger agreed with alot of it but rami is excellent as freddie

A sequel is being 'considered,' apparently:

I can imagine it would be an emotionally difficult film to make.

Apollonia1 · 27/07/2022 22:55

I loved this film and thought Rami did a great job.

I went to Freddy Mercury's birth-house in Zanzibar.

Perplexed0522 · 27/07/2022 22:57

As well as ignite my interest in the wonderful Freddie, it also made me go and find their old music videos on YouTube.

I really love the “Somebody to love” song.

Belting film.

Brian May overlooked production and said it was really true to Freddie, he loved Ramj Malek. He wasn't keen on Sacha Baron Cohen, I think he'd said it would have been a disaster if he'd played Freddie.

PugInTheHouse · 27/07/2022 23:02

He is so captivating, there is no one else like him. When Brian May and Roger Taylor talk about him it is so clear how much they love and miss him, makes no feel so emotional every time they are interviewed about him.

I recently went to the Queen and Adam Lambert tour, I cried several times throughout, not just because it was so incredible and far superior to any other gig I've been too (16 and 14 yos thought so too) but they did some beautiful tributes to Freddie also, in particular during Love of my Life. It was so amazing and it just made me feel extremely sad but also how amazing Freddie was and what incredible musicians they all are. Adam Lambert was fantastic and really did a good job helping to keep their music alive and also there for the younger generations to watch live!

Funkyslippers · 27/07/2022 23:05

HappySonHappyMum I loved Rocket Man. It seems alot more warts and all than Bohemian Rhapsody, but it wouldn't be fair to delve too far into Freddie's Iife as he was such a private person

CallOnMe · 27/07/2022 23:07

I saw Queen live in 1981 and again at Freddie's last ever live performance at Knebworth in 1986.

Wow you are so lucky!!
