To not want to stay in a 3 star hotel

Am I being really snobby, anybody stayed in a 3 star hotel? Looking for holidays for the summer and not used to the summer holiday prices as my daughter is now in year 1, DH says I’m being ridiculous and should just appreciate a holiday.

I went to a party there many moons ago, it was gorgeous.

That was probably when the furniture and decor was new.

Depends where you’re going. We stayed in a fab boutique 2* on a tiny Greek island and it was glorious. I think in some smaller places they can’t be arsed with everything that goes into getting more stars but check reviews. This hotel was on par with the 5 star we stayed in last year which was part of a bigger chain.

Tell us where it was @Sugarsandwiches

Id stay in a 3 star as long as it had decent recent reviews on booking and tripadvisor. I tend to look at reviews more than star ratings and the location.

I usually go for 3 star because that's what is within my budget. They are usually basic but clean. I always check reviews My main points to look for are cleanliness comfy beds, a decent breakfast and a bar for the evening and no smoking in the hotel. I couldn't believe the amount of hotels in Blackpool that have smoking and non smoking rooms. I would rather have no smoking in the hotel at all.

I thought that was illegal?

This is the worst place I have ever stayed in and it is a 3 star. All those reviews and they do nothing.

This was my first ever holiday with friends. 40 years ago. It was a 3 star then. We had grotty rooms in an annexe and no en-suites.

Sorry this was referring to the Merton hotel.

are 3 stars usually nice?

@Cheekycheeky12 really depends where you are going. For example, a 3 star in Italy certainly doesn’t meet the standards of a 3 star in the U.K.

OP, our question made me smile - I've never stayed in anything more than a 3 star!

My friends say luxury is totally wasted on me, and I think they're right.

I can honestly say that, whatever 5 star hotels have to offer - I wouldn't really be interested - I don't like fine dining, hate having to dress up and never use 'spa' facilities. I don't like staff running after me - I like to be left to do things myself. But we're all different!
