Best Adverts Ever

Inspired by the thread about the worst ones. I often lament the loss of the great adverts of the late 80s and 90s. I loved the sunkist one, the Wrigley's spearmint one, hamlet, the one where Henry looks a big girls blouse in portia's prize for the cat food add. BT ology add with Maureen Lipman, the fly fishing book one and the yellow pages house trashed at a party one. Budweiser ones with the whatever creatures they were. I'm ill with a bad infection so please cheer me up with your memories of great adds.

Insignia
Fruit and nut
Cherry coke
Milky Way

The VW one - the kid is dressed up in a Star Wars costume and keeps trying to make things happen with his lightsaber. The way he acts when he "opens" the VW is brilliant!

Guinness - Surfing ad, He waits..
Nike? Football in a cage with Eric Cantona & Elvis soundtrack

Pot noodle prison advert

Clawdy · 25/07/2022 07:50

The one with the man's voice over doing "You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar......." in a strong accent!

ShirleyJackson · 25/07/2022 08:06

I liked the one for car insurance where two little lads were out on the drive talking like middle aged men. One of them was absolutely brilliant.

”Insurance costs? Stupid - just stupid!”

He was like a little Peter Kay Grin

lollipoprainbow · 25/07/2022 08:08

@ShirleyJackson 'overtired' !

ShirleyJackson · 25/07/2022 08:10

That’s the one!

dancinfeet · 25/07/2022 08:18

Levi’s laundromat and Levi’s mad about the boy with the swimming pools. Kit Kat roller skating pandas, the shake and vac ads with their catchy song and the milky way red car and blue car.

ShirleyJackson · 25/07/2022 08:19

I loved Cadbury’s drumming gorilla, too.

Mr Soft chewy mints.
You've been Tangoed (although it caused kids to slap each other in the playground a lot!).
All the Guinnes ones, Flake, Cadbury Caramel bunny (Miriam Margolys voice), Levi's Mick Kamen. Cinzano with Reginal Perrin and Joan Collins!

The John Smiths ads with Peter Kay.

Just to be an absolute misery I have a real issue with celebrities pushing and advertising in a disingenuous way. Peter Kay doesn't drink so watching him sipping a pint of John Smiths sits about as well with me as Holly W or Jane Seymour pretending they dye their own hair.

Nomad98 · 25/07/2022 09:01

In slippers with pom Poms for creeping about....

Watch out watch out there's a Humphrey about

I loved a Vauxhall ad tears a go. Where two boys where chatting about the family cars
Like that. Went on for years.

AlternativelyWired · 25/07/2022 15:26

Wasn't John Smith's Jack Dee?

Meh. I've also heard Peter Kay as an absolute arsehole in real life but I still find him funny. It's an advert not a documentary!

AlternativelyWired · 25/07/2022 15:45

I've just remembered the advert with the peach and the bottoms. WS it for Renault cars?

What about the lurpak ones with the guy playing the trumpet or was it a trombone. And the leader of the park with the motorbike for lurpak.

Back in the 80s there was an advert for Carling Black Label and it was like a western where this bloke in a cowboy hat got chased (while the music from Bonanza is playing). Ends with the strap line ‘I bet he drinks Carling Black Label’.
The commercial break carries on and an advert or two later there’s a romantic scene happening when suddenly, the cowboy dude appears and then gets chased and wrecks the scene. I’m sure it also happened a third time.
To 7/8/9 year old me, I thought it was the cleverest thing ever.

Yes! And its sister advert based on 'Into the Valley'

'My picture is Hugh's toe'😂

gatehouseoffleet · 25/07/2022 19:56

I used to like this one (showing my age):

Clawdy · 26/07/2022 07:52

What was the ad where the woman gets her divorce papers, gets in her car, looks sad for a second , then grins and drives off with a loud, uplifting 80s song playing? Can't remember the song, it was a big hit !

Clawdy · 26/07/2022 07:58

Think the song was Young At Heart!

Orpheline · 26/07/2022 08:00

Was it this one?
