To eat croissant with butter?

We’re in France and I’m enjoying a wee swipe of butter on my morning croissant. I KNOW they’re made with a shit ton of butter already but I just think an extra bit of salty creamy French butter takes it over the top. DH muttering about heart attacks as he nibbles his poor man’s breakfast. Who IBU?

Bacon, cheese and tomato, toasted like a panini

peanutpancakess · 24/07/2022 09:27

Butter is great, but cream cheese for me 😋

LaChatte · 24/07/2022 09:28

God no, they're 50% butter as it is, are you lot the same people who like deep fried snickers and things like that?
Fresh croissants, still warm, tear bits off and dip in jam. Only once or twice a month though!

Coastalcreeksider · 24/07/2022 09:29

Butter with just a bit of croissant

Happylittlethoughts · 24/07/2022 09:30

Butter and jam on warm croissant ! Lush

Chichz · 24/07/2022 09:31

The more modern research would suggest it's the jam that's the problem, not the butter 😜

RampantIvy · 24/07/2022 09:32

No to jam for me. Just butter.

Snugglemonkey · 24/07/2022 09:32

I mostly eat them with bacon and cheese.

JennyForeigner · 24/07/2022 09:33

It's the only way.

Who spends their time on holiday asking mumsnet what they should eat for breakfast?

The sort of women who, I f they have behaved like this 100 years ago would have been institutionalised as incompetent, or in the language of the day, simple. But now, oooh, aren’t I funny, ditsy, mad me, or just plain incompetent. It’s becoming unbearable.

Runningupthathill01 · 24/07/2022 09:49

It’s unsalted butter in France isn’t it?

I just had two pain au chocolats with added butter!

easyday · 24/07/2022 09:49

Plus jam! Your hubby is a killjoy.

Ironfloor269 · 24/07/2022 09:49

I slice it in half lengthways, butter on one side and jam on the other. Then microwave for about 5 seconds to melt the butter and soften the croissant. Yum!

FAQs · 24/07/2022 09:49

With some cheese and tapenade !

godmum56 · 24/07/2022 09:52
  1. its none of his business
  2. see 1
  3. whats the french for STFU? cos is sounds like you are gonna need it
Keepithidden · 24/07/2022 09:52

Croissants are just French scones, so load them up with butter, jam and clotted cream. Or if savoury, cheese, ham and ketchup!

Yep, I have no "culture"!

wendywoopywoo222 · 24/07/2022 09:52

Bacon and cheese. Only way to eat them.

There's something about croissants in France that makes them extra delicious on their own, but back home definitely butter and jam, preferably raspberry.

This is how I feel too!

@novocaned tell him you're on holiday & don't want to hear one more word about it. You'll eat what you want, how you want & if he gets a cats bum face over it, he can go and eat by himself elsewhere.

You've really made me miss my usual time in France. (Self inflicted this year really, I have underlyings- so still very worried about getting covid, especially worried about getting it if not at home. Plus flight/ferry hassles, I decided to stay at home, but I miss it!! Crossing my fingers for next year!!).

Enjoy every minute!

Gazelda · 24/07/2022 09:55

I'm sure that when I was being taught french about 40 years ago we were told that the french people usually have croissants dipped in hot chocolate for breakfast. Every day!

And they are well known for their culture, style and healthy eating. So I think that buttered croissants would be ok.

ArabeI · 24/07/2022 09:59

I'm a creature of habit and have a plain croissant or two, no butter, for breakfast every day. I always ignore the butter if I'm ever given it when eating out. Though I always eat with a cup of coffee to wash them down and have never seen the point of the butter.

KnottyKnitting · 24/07/2022 09:59

YABU you need jam too!

TheGoogleMum · 24/07/2022 10:01

I like them plain but I don't see anything wrong with adding butter especially as a holiday treat

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/07/2022 10:01

butter and nutella
then warmed

SuperCamp · 24/07/2022 10:05

Unsalted butter and apricot jam, you heathen!

OR butter and jam free to dip in your coffee.

Jolinar · 24/07/2022 10:08

Thegreatestshowoff · 24/07/2022 08:49

Butter and apricot jam!

This!
