Parents dating children

I often see posts on Facebook of parents saying they are going on a date with their children I find this absolutely cringeworthy does anyone else? To me you go on a date with a man or woman that you see as a partner not a child. Just saw one of daddy saying he's going on a date with his daughter really does make my skin crawl.

Christmas Eve boxes have also been around for at least 35 years

MermaidSwimming · 22/07/2022 18:44

I don't like it, a friend's new boyfriend posted on FB that he took her daughter on a date (went to cafe) felt bit creepy to me

TheKeatingFive · 22/07/2022 18:48

felt bit creepy to me

Do you think play dates are creepy too? What do you think is going on in these situations?

surreygirl1987 · 22/07/2022 18:57

Yeh it's weird

helpfulperson · 22/07/2022 18:58

So to those who don't like it what do call it when other kids come round to play?

OneTC · 22/07/2022 18:58

42isthemeaning · 22/07/2022 18:39

Say, what?!

Which words are you struggling with?

Thegroaninggurner · 22/07/2022 19:02

Exactly that another child is coming round to play lol, maybe I'm just old.

I think it's odd that you find it odd.

Never seen anyone say they're going on a date with their children - ever! Confused

Me neither!

Randomthoughts992 · 22/07/2022 19:07

thing is, say someone had a partner but was going to the cinema with another male or female friend, You wouldnt say "oh im going on a date to the cinema* Because that would seem as it you were cheating or dating other people .. date means dating

LT2 · 22/07/2022 19:11

Depends how you view the word 'date'. Could be just 'fixing a date in the calendar' for doing something nice together. Doesn't mean romantic.

ShippingNews · 22/07/2022 19:12

I go on dates with my adult daughter, and with my grandchildren. Nothing creepy about it.

If you want to say it's creepy, what's a play date ?

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/07/2022 19:19

A date can be a social OR a romantic engagement.

If you see a date with a parent and child as being something creepy then that's what's in your head. It's on you. Not on the parent and child.

I actually messaged my friend yesterday ‘let’s get some dates in the diary for the summer’ and there’s no question I was referring to both play sessions for our kids and childfree coffees etc. I really think it’s no biggie 😄

Getting some dates in the diary is different to going out 'on a date'.

TheKeatingFive · 22/07/2022 19:30

You wouldnt say "oh im going on a date to the cinema Because that would seem as it you were cheating or dating other people .. date means dating*

What do you think's going on with play dates then?

Maximoose · 22/07/2022 19:32

No you’d just say I’m going on a cinema date. Like when my husband goes on his man dates. You people are weird.

MoodyTwo · 22/07/2022 19:35

Jeeze , the word date doesn't mean a romantic moment.
It is a literally a 'date for your diary' a date to make a note of !
Children have play dates
I think it is cute

When my DC were small we called it "coming round to play"

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/07/2022 19:43

Partner said once that he was going on a Daddy/Daughter date, a phrase his ex wife used. I pointed out that it made him sound like a paedophile. He has never said it since which is good as it gave me the major ick and I am certain it showed in my face.

iklboo · 22/07/2022 19:45

Leo & Amshah coming round to play / have tea.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 22/07/2022 19:46

Sidge · 22/07/2022 15:52

But it’s all about context isn’t it?

Going on a date = romantic

Doing something on a particular date = not romantic.

Not even about sex, but about a different sort of love - romantic love not parental love. Valentines cards for your children is also weird IMO. Valentine’s Day is historically about celebrating romantic love.

Valentine’s Day historically was about celebrating the Christian Marty, St Valentine

@OneTC
Not struggling with any words, thanks! Smile

NoGoodUsernamee · 22/07/2022 19:54

When me & my eldest child (of 3) have a rare occasion where it’s just us 2, she says ‘yay it’s a mummy daughter date!’ It’s adorable. Only weird if you’re making ‘date’ a sexual thing.

BanditoShipman · 22/07/2022 19:58

It is meant in a ‘date’ date way, not a ‘date in the diary’ way. It’s ick.

Only ever see it for dad and daughter too, never for dad and son
