To not like either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss

I don't like either of those two. And I think both will be pretty bad for the country. Certainly not voting Tory again after this.

OP posts:
ComDummings · 21/07/2022 17:35

I get bad vibes from both of them. Like really bad.

bellinisurge · 21/07/2022 17:37

Nope. Only blessing is it's better than lying Penny Mordaunt. She's a Johnson reboot

Anothernamechangeplease · 21/07/2022 17:37

YANBU.

I have never voted Tory anyway, and never would, but if this is the best that they've got to offer, it's pretty poor. We need a change of government ASAP.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/07/2022 17:37

Rumours are she’s a bit of a lush

CapMarvel · 21/07/2022 17:37

One's a criminal, the other is an idiot.

YANBU.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 17:40

Look on the bright side, neither of them will ever win a GE.

50mg · 21/07/2022 17:41

Me neither, but unfortunately I still think Starmer has a lot of work to do. I think it's going to take a change of Labour leadership to get a change of government. He seems bright and decent enough, but I fear that's not what gets people elected.

On a side note, Truss doesn't seem very bright, I agree but she went to Oxford from a comprehensive, so must be reasonably intelligent? However, the classification of degree she achieved seems to be a big secret, whereas Sunak's First is plastered everywhere.

Glencanto · 21/07/2022 17:42

I don’t like either, but the thought of Liz Truss as PM is just so, so embarrassing.

RedCarsGoFaster · 21/07/2022 17:43

Both are a crap choice. Mind you so were most of the candidates. Self selection in a small pool leads to poor options IMO.

Can't believe people actually voted Tory a few years ago just to get Boris Johnson in control. Terrifying.

LuckyAmy1986 · 21/07/2022 17:45

Don’t like either, either! But liz truss please god no

Labour are way up in the polls though, and I’d expect Tory support will continue to sink under whoever is chosen as the new leader.

I also expect Starmer to start putting forward a more positive case for Labour, as we approach the GE, rather than just letting the Tories hang themselves (which has proved a good strategy to date).

FourChimneys · 21/07/2022 17:45

I am in utter despair that the choice is between those two.

Thwomp · 21/07/2022 17:47

Truss is such an odd one. Spends half of her time cosplaying Margret Thatcher, then…

If I was a member of the Tory party I don’t know who I would vote for. Neither is an attractive choice. I would like to hear who they would have in their cabinet and what positions. That would help people to decide, surely? If either wanted Gove then I’d have to choose the other person.

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 17:51

If either wanted Gove then I’d have to choose the other person.

Aren’t Dorries and Rees Mogg (Truss supporters) bad enough for you?

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 21/07/2022 17:52

Apart from their awful policies, neither has any charisma, authority or presence. Not at all statesman- or stateswoman- like.

Both will make us look a feeble joke on the world stage.

BingoBungle · 21/07/2022 17:53

I am a floating voter and have voted Tory in the past but never for Bellend Boris even when I lived in London and he was the mayor (when is he going to face criminal charges for the £140 million he stole from us for his fake bridge?)

I am willing to give Rishi the benefit of the doubt.

I despise Liz Truss and she certainly doesn’t strike me as particularly intelligent but please let’s not do down her degree. Oxbridge Firsts and prizes are the result of huge family support and lucky mental health, almost never ability or effort. There’s also evidence they’re more likely to be awarded to male candidates from public schools because there’s a certain style of essay writing that being taught by ex-Oxbridge teachers gives them a head start on.

Luckingfovely · 21/07/2022 17:53

You'd be unreasonable if you DID like either of them.

Two vile turds plucked from a festering cesspit. I weep for this country.

APJ1 · 21/07/2022 17:55

Rishi is the lesser of two evils for me but it's looking like he has zero chance.

balalake · 21/07/2022 17:55

The criminal who gave us half price McDonalds as long as we sat indoors and spread Covid, versus the person who stuck to her marriage vows allegedly for a shorter period than Mr Johnson.

Not quite the worst choice of those who stood (probably that's Suella Braverman the lawyer who advocates law breaking, and Jeremy Hunt wanted an apologist for child neglect as his deputy), but close.

Rishi Sunak will be marginally less embarrassing, and at least presentable on the world stage.

50mg · 21/07/2022 17:55

I heard her interviewed this morning. She was challenged over the way she changes her mind according to what's advantageous for her at the time. E.g. not that long ago she was Lib Dem, then a Remainer. She didn't have a convincing argument at all. Surely someone like that, who isn't actually sure what she thinks, can't win a GE?

I suspect the parliamentary party went for her to male sure Rishi gets it. The party would, I think have gone for Mordaunt.

AntlerRose · 21/07/2022 17:56

I keep winderung why i didnt really like any of the contenders mych, then remembered i hadnt voted for this party so I wasnt really going to think much of them.

I hope the Tories pick whoever europe and the rest of the world find it easiest to work with. I suspect that is Rishi

Glencanto · 21/07/2022 17:58

I agree. To the uninitiated unfamiliar with his background and record, Sunak just comes across as a fairly standard politician. You only have to listen to Truss for a couple of minutes to know she’s thick as mince.

Look on the bright side, neither of them will ever win a GE.

Unfortunately, one of them will still become PM without having won a GE!

The right wing press have been lobbying hard for Truss since the start of the process. I assume they consider her to be the archetypal useful idiot (who, as you note, is very malleable).
