To not like either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss

I don't like either of those two. And I think both will be pretty bad for the country. Certainly not voting Tory again after this.

Neither of them are likeable. I just want a general election.

Rishi can’t be trusted and liz will probably be incompetent.

it’s like choosing between being puked on or shat on.

Unfortunately, one of them will still become PM without having won a GE!

That’s our system though. Since Thatcher, only Blair and Cameron became PM via GE. The other four all won leadership contests after their predecessors resigned.

SaintHelena · 21/07/2022 18:04

OMG you must one of the unbelievable Tory voters that wanted despicable Boris to stay .......

They’ll still have to fight one eventually. 🤷‍♀️

Crikeyalmighty · 21/07/2022 18:12

I'm not a Tory but if honestly offering an opinion I think sunak would be slightly more capable, less governed by ERG and less embarrassing although very out of touch and Truss is a gift to the opposition and will be utterly out her depth

DixonD · 21/07/2022 18:16

Glencanto · 21/07/2022 17:42

I don’t like either, but the thought of Liz Truss as PM is just so, so embarrassing.

Yes! She’s like our version of Trump. It would be mortifying.

I remember feeling like that when Boris was about to become PM. Don't think it gets any more embarrassing than that. I do agree that Truss would also be a national embarrassment, but I imagine that most of us are probably pretty used to that now.

Happygirl79 · 21/07/2022 18:18

Truss doesn't seem capable of stringing a decent sentence together never mind run the country
I wouldn't trust Sunak one jot. If he becomes PM he has already warned the party and the country taxes will remain high .God help us all.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 21/07/2022 18:20

But you weren't voting Conservative again over Partygate or one of the other debacles.

There is no accepted economic model that suggests cutting taxes now would be a good thing for anyone.

Plus what do you think they mean by cutting taxes?. No one has even suggested a cut to income tax.

@Blossomtoes

You rather missed the point being made! The poster was saying at the next GE the Tories won't win with either of these twats as PM.

They're right, but hopefully they'll have got rid of them by them, although no fecking idea who would be better.

Tugendhat was my pick of the bunch, but not entirely sure he's got what it takes.

I'd rather have Boris back than either of these two idiots or the absolute catastrophe labour would be.

Manekinek0 · 21/07/2022 18:24

Well you're not being unreasonable as they are both awful people.

I'm a labour supporter but I don't love starmer and many people also seem unsure. Ed Davey could make some serious ground with the lib dems.

mackerella · 21/07/2022 18:30

I didn't miss the point being made, and I do understand how our electoral/party system works! I was just pointing out, rather pessimistically, that, although Sunak or Truss will hopefully be toast at the next GE, we still have to suffer them as PM until then - which may not be until January 2025!

Blossomtoes · 21/07/2022 18:30

I didn’t miss the point at all @JugglingJanuary. That was precisely the point I made. Mind you, I wouldn’t expect someone who would prefer Johnson to a Labour government to have particularly sharp comprehension skills.

stuntbubbles · 21/07/2022 18:32

But all Tories are unlikable cunts? Doesn’t matter which one we don’t get to choose as PM, it’s all the same rats in the same sewer.

Namechanger355 · 21/07/2022 18:37

Agreed they are primarily talking about corporation tax which will go up to 25%

Certainly not income tax

and cutting any taxes now will not do anything to slow down inflation - and hyperinflation will be terrible for all of us

I just can’t get my head around some people still thinking Labour would be a catastrophe, after all the Tories have done over the last decade.

It used to be a case of which political ideology you considered to be in your, and/or the country’s, best interests.

Now, the Tories are so grossly incompetent that anyone but the most zealous right-winger shouldn’t have to think twice

Could still be a possibility😁

This made me laugh

To not like either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss
ddl1 · 21/07/2022 18:49

Well, I don't think many people LIKE either of them. I dislike Truss more; but wouldn't be voting for Sunak either.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/07/2022 19:27

@Glencanto I'm totally with you- I have no idea what on earth they think labour will do that is so disastrous compared to spending 400 billion on Brexit with little/ no tangible benefits , vast amounts of fraud on corruption to mates and business acquaintances on covid related stuff, letting the NHS be extremely on a knife edge and not immediately cutting vat on fuel/ utilities to give some breathing space.

Oblomov22 · 21/07/2022 19:38

Agreed. Don't like either.

Oblomov22 · 21/07/2022 19:45

The next general election isn't till ? Jan 25. So we have to put up with 2.5 years of this bollocks. Lord save us.

Oblomov22 · 21/07/2022 19:45

Think how much damage could be done in 2.5 years.

Mooda · 21/07/2022 19:54

They are both appalling. Truss more so, economically illiterate, parroting other people's (bad) ideas, no vision, no consistency, just saying what she thinks people want to hear.

And the dressing up like Thatcher thing ... shades of Johnson dressing up as a pilot or forklift truck driver or whatever his latest cosplay indulgence is. Honestly these are not serious people - the sooner we have a general election the better.
