If you only had 35 minutes to spare between work and kids hobbies every Tuesday evening what would you cook for dinner in that time? I'm not a fan of ready meals but Tesco do an nice carbonara and one evening a week is ok! What would you suggest?

Aldi also had good red and green Thai curries in their ready meals section but haven’t seen it for a while now.

They changed them to a "pot" microwave meal and relocated them beside the salad meals near the door.

Thank you, I’ll look out for them.

My quick meal is sausages and bacon lardons in a bbq sauce with baked beans.. In the slow cooker on low all day...

@MrsDThomas i can guarantee that making carbonara from scratch would take you 15 minutes tops. More pans to wash though.

@BarrelOfOtters2 please tell your 15 minute carbonara recipe... I'm interested!

I don't know theirs but I used the Jamie Oliver one.
While pasta is cooking, fry off onion, bacon and garlic. Also use 1.5-2 egg yolks (per person) plus a shit ton of finely grated parmesan (salt and pepper too) and mix and put to one side.
Once pasta is done(ish) add to Pan plus a bit of pasta water. Take pan off heat and add egg mixture and pasta water bit by bit and stir until creamy.

It takes pretty much as long as it takes to cook pasta.

My microwave broke 2 years ago and I couldn't afford a new one so I've learned to live without. I really miss the convenience of micro meals though! Rustler burgers are my guilty pleasure.

There are some really good quick "one-pot" recipes which can be done in under 15 mins.

But I also uses to swear by microwave scrambled eggs on toast as a quicky meal

If you eat only one ready meal (and you like seafood) make it Iceland’s Mussels, Clams and Prawns in Tomato and Herb Sauce… delicious. It’s ready after 9 min in a lidded pan. We have it with crusty bread and butter… I don’t work for Iceland, honest!

The other day I had prepacked salad leaves, some salmon (tuna would have done), mayonaise & some Doritos, big salad. Yum!

Carbonara is great if you've just come in and need to ping in 4 minutes.
The trick is, is to slightly over do it, eat it out of the tray, taking in the burnt edges.

Same with a lasagne. Asda's 99p was my dinner of choice many a time. Add extra salt and vinegar.

I'm hungry now 😭🤣

Fresh pasta is your friend

And so is freezing my homemade tomato sauces,
but sometimes you want a dirty lasagne.

I've just eaten a coleslaw wrap 🙄 even told the cats to eff off scrounging as they've eaten better than me today 🤣

I've got lettuce, feta, olives, tomatoes, balsamic... I'll bung it all in another wrap. Or have some new potatoes cooked and cooled...

I just want a dirty lasagne now 😭

Just to add - you can buy ready prepped vegetables and steam them in the microwave. Literally cover the bowl, add a tablespoon of water, and set the timer for 2 minutes.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 23/07/2022 04:23

Stuffed pasta cooks in about 3 minutes, premade sauce, maybe garlic bread.

@BarrelOfOtters2 and @SliceOfCakeCupOfTea thank you for those fab recipes, I will definitely be trying them out!
