Started a job 3 weeks in ago as a health care and support worker and it's not what I've been expecting. I've come from a special school and this feels so much different and alot more expected in my job role then what was discussed. Such as driving their vehicle which is a van, I said I could drive but wasn't expecting to drive a automatic van thought of it is making me anxious, cooking meals and so much cleaning! They are short staffed so I've literally been left to get on with it. My rota has been all over the place and I actually ended up working the weekend even though I wasnt told I was due in but I decided to go in when called asking where I was! I still don't even know my hours for the next two weeks and the are doing weekly due staffing over the summer. That aside I don't enjoy the job either! The thing is I'm not someone who doesn't just turn up an dket people down but I can't face handing notice in both situations is making me ill and I've not stopped crying. In the employee handbook it says I have to give one weeks notice after a month working there so what happens if I've only been there 3 weeks? It just feels shit

Just don’t turn in- they will get agency cover or staff cover. This happened to me in a role and it was awful

Helen1233 · 21/07/2022 07:48

I remember your post about this job after the first day or 2.

Can't believe you've stuck at it this long.

Well done for trying to make it work but it's not fitting with you.
You have really tried and they don't deserve you by the sounds of it.

Leave before your MH gets worse.

Summersdreaming · 21/07/2022 07:54

Ffs OP. You need to get a grip and quit if you don't want the job. You've been dithering for weeks.

Sloebluewalls · 21/07/2022 07:54

My experience is that this is a very typical set social care set up. Rubbish rotas, poor pay for the level of responsibility/training, poor staff retention effecting service delivery, tone deaf management, no I would be

Sloebluewalls · 21/07/2022 07:55

I would work the weeks notice just for the service users

wibblywobblybits · 21/07/2022 08:02

For crying out loud, get a grip and just LEAVE. You've come on here to ask opinions on whether you can just email in and never go back. 99% of which are tell you to do so. But you've back and forth sending constant photos of what the contract says and this and that. You've worked there 3 weeks. You don't need a reference. Quit the bloody job and move on with your life

cansu · 21/07/2022 08:03

If you want to be nice you should email saying that the job isn't working for you but you will work the next week to help them out. If you can't face this simply email saying it isn't working for you and you won't be returning. There are many such jobs and the overwork and number of shifts is due to the state of social care. My son needs support workers 24/7 and I know what a struggle it is to get staff.

jackstini · 21/07/2022 08:20

I remember your first post and how stressed you were, and nothing has improved

You have to leave. You will feel so much relief once that email is sent

Do it today and start counting down your week's notice

jellybeanteaparty · 21/07/2022 08:27

Surely If you worked the weekend and this week you are due some days off? Resign now work Thursday and Friday and seeing you haven't got the rota for next week assume that is your days off that are due. If not self certify yourself off sick with stress if they want a weeks notice.

Meltinthemiddle · 21/07/2022 15:40

I think I'm just going to email the manager after tonight's shift as can't fave tomorrow! It's definitely not getting better and apparently these are one of the best care companies. I do need to get a grip but I've never been in this situation before and was unsure of the notice period.

Good call ! Have you done it?

Meltinthemiddle · 21/07/2022 18:36

No waiting until I finish. I'm not coming back tomorrow it's been horrendous. I feel bad but it's so awful.

My heart is racing as I was writing a draft and accidentally sent it 🙈😭. Looking at the paper work it's still not clear if I need to give a week or no notice as some say a week! I'm due In tomorrow so wanted to pre warn them that I'm not in saying I'm ill so could get signed off at least so didn't have to work arrraaaggghhh

Runnerduck34 · 22/07/2022 00:46

Don't panic it's fine. Honestly you never have to see them again if you don't want to!
At least its done.

minnieleminx · 22/07/2022 00:50

It's done now, thank goodness.

It wasn't working out, clearly. They will have known that too.

It really doesn't matter. You've been there 3 weeks.

Well done for listening to your needs. They will be used to this and within a week it will all be forgotten about.

This

Also you won't need to feel stressed because you're sticking to your employment letter

Meltinthemiddle · 22/07/2022 06:16

I don't know whether to go and work today and sort it out 😢

OP posts:
Bumtum126 · 22/07/2022 06:23

Sort what out ? You don't need to work any notice.

Evza · 22/07/2022 06:28

Don't go in. This job is affecting your mental health and you need to get out.

Meltinthemiddle · 22/07/2022 06:28

I just feel guilty for not turning up! Plus some things are saying 1 weeks notice now I've looked again 🙄
