Have you had a pay rise this year?

All this talk of inflation, public sector pay rises etc has me thinking.

I wonder how many of us in the private sector have had pay rises, and is so, how much?

I have a public sector job as well as a private sector one. In my private sector job (Social Care) we got 21p an hour pay rise.

I work for a not-fit-profit which makes huge surpluses. We got a 4.9% increase this year.

VickerishAllsort · 20/07/2022 21:10

No pay rise in over 10 years and standard of living dropping like most people's.
But it's our own business so no-one to appeal to, and we are lucky to still be here after the last couple of years.
We have half a dozen employees and will probably give them a raise later in the year, although it won't be in line with the rapidly rising inflation rate.

TheCrowening · 20/07/2022 21:11

Public sector. Social worker. Zero since April 2019. Not a penny.

LoveLimesoda · 20/07/2022 21:12

4% rise, in retail.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/07/2022 21:14

Private sector 4%

djdkdkddkek · 20/07/2022 21:15

I got a payrise in April, but it was from 2021-2022 so effectively a year behind. I don’t know what it was but appreciated it.

CoopsMalloops · 20/07/2022 21:15

Private 14.5% but I asked for a pay rise

Jammysod · 20/07/2022 21:17

Insurance - I got a £2k payrise.
They're desperate to hang on to good staff though as so many leaving for better paying companies.

Alliolly · 20/07/2022 21:18

Hospitality. Our contracts were changed to 48h in 2020, previously 45h. And in April this year dropped back to 45h instead of a pay rise in line with the hourly paid staff.. so 0% really for the last 4 years

noideabutstilltrying · 20/07/2022 21:22

£7000 pay rise and a good bonus scheme was bought in for us. Private sector

djdkdkddkek · 20/07/2022 21:28

Oh sorry
publix sector our payrise was negotiated via unions

SEJ1789 · 20/07/2022 21:29

i think it was 2.95% they apologised it wasn’t more but my couldn’t track inflation

dementedma · 20/07/2022 21:29

I got regraded after an internal review and a 20% increase. Stunned.

Dogshark · 20/07/2022 21:29

Legal aid lawyer. Haven’t had an increase in 8 years until now. But until now there hasn’t been an increase (in fact there have been reductions) in the amount the state pays us, so it’s not surprising.

Grumpybutfunny · 20/07/2022 21:32

It's not just the percentage increase, it's the down banding that is hitting people. So what used to be a band X task is now passed down to band W. Removal of yearly increments, so instead of a small rise each year until top of the band it's now only year 2 & 5 so over a long period you also get paid less as you stay at a lower point longer.

It's then the comparison on pay between industries, if I jumped ship to industry I could realistically increase by pay by 20k from the top of my current band.

Disneydatknee88 · 20/07/2022 21:40

I've not had my annual pay rise yet but this month it was announced everybody in my company will have an extra £1k pay rise in August to help with the rising costs on top of our performance based increase. Its not much but its something..especially considering I only started there 4 months ago and I still qualify.

JerkintheMerkin · 20/07/2022 21:42

7.4%. I was both pleased and shocked.

polka6 · 20/07/2022 21:46

no

pumpkinpie01 · 20/07/2022 21:53

I got 8.6% , private sector and hadn't had a pay rise for 9 years

blubberyboo · 20/07/2022 22:12

Private sector 3.5%

The highest we’ve had for about 10 years.
in recent years we’ve also had a small bonus of about £400 gross but beforehand almost all bonuses like this were stopped since the credit crunch

in our industry we have been repeatedly told by union over the years we wouldn’t get any public support if we went on strike over pay and working conditions ..so not to bother

Thriwit · 20/07/2022 22:30

Private sector 4%. The last few years have been 1-1.5%, so it’s the best I’ve had for years.

Perhaps worth noting that’s it though - we don’t have pay grades/increments or performance bonuses etc, just annual cost of living.

WillMcAvoy · 20/07/2022 22:31

Yes. 10%

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 20/07/2022 22:44

Private sector. Got a pay cut during covid lockdown. No payrise since.

Kloerose · 20/07/2022 22:45

An 8% increase and a bonus in January and then a further 20% in April as a result of a promotion, after a new manager recognised I’d been doing the job of a different, more skilled, role for some time.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/07/2022 22:47

Private sector 5%.

It's worth remembering that many private sector workers were on furlough over the last two years and so apparent pay rises take account of that. And of course public sector workers have their incredibly generous pensions which aren't accounted for when talking about payrises.
