All this talk of inflation, public sector pay rises etc has me thinking.

I wonder how many of us in the private sector have had pay rises, and is so, how much?

I have a public sector job as well as a private sector one. In my private sector job (Social Care) we got 21p an hour pay rise.

Yes I work in a care home …we have had a 25% pay rise since April !
As a registered nurse our pay was rubbish but the owners have finally worked out that if they want their residents to get decent care they need to pay the staff a decent wage and stop being bloody greedy!!

GalactiCat · 20/07/2022 20:20

Nope. Nothing. Same as last year and the year before that.

Svara · 20/07/2022 20:21

I actually think percentage increases right now are wrong given the cost of living crisis is disproportionately affecting lower earners. I think a flat £ increase would be better targeted.

Eunorition · 20/07/2022 20:28

Yes. Because I asked. I was being considerably underpaid and they were being dicks. But it wasn't enough and the work had dried up so I changed jobs and got 50% more.

You have to change to get anything substantial.

JulesJules · 20/07/2022 20:29

1.8% Hmm

Athenajm80 · 20/07/2022 20:29

Civil Service/public sector. Square root of fuck all. My old department got a 2% pay rise but I don't think they had one last year.

ITUnurse · 20/07/2022 20:31

It shouldn’t be a slanging match between public and private sector fighting it out over a few pence. This is what the Tories want.

The working class in the UK has it shite at the moment, regardless of sector. I encourage all working class people to join a trade union and take industrial action for better pay and conditions.

However, the Tories have done really well at convincing their English public that the trade unions/ rail workers/immigrants / disabled people / LGBT+ people / those on benefits / etc are the enemy and the cause of all their problems. This keeps them stupid and docile, nodding dogs who will vote the Tories in without fail, at every election.

kegofcoffee · 20/07/2022 20:32

Technically self employed, but nearly all of my work comes from one company.

I told them I was putting my hourly rate up 15% and they accepted.

That said, I'm now thinking I was undercharging originally.

Fizbosshoes · 20/07/2022 20:32

Private sector. No I last had one about 4 years ago

NFLBingo · 20/07/2022 20:33

Private sector, 19% ish pay rise on hourly rate and a very decent one-off bonus.
It took us all back a bit, but we do work our arses off and work in a bit of a depressing sector so it was very much welcomed and is appreciated.

NFLBingo · 20/07/2022 20:35

Just to add all others in the company got a flat 5% rise I believe, the lowest paid got the 19ish%.

Simonjt · 20/07/2022 20:37

Private sector, 4.5%

Ohmydayssilleople · 20/07/2022 20:38

My son was given a promotion but didn’t get a pay rise …he dug his heels in and then got a 20% pay rise !! People really need to speak up and sell themselves and not pussyfoot around their employers !
Appreciate that it’s not so easy in the public sector.

Agree with you 100%!

Vanillaradio · 20/07/2022 20:39

I'm public sector and haven't had one yet. It was due in April. Who knows if and when they will get round to it and how much it will be. Not expecting a lot tbh- since 2009 I've only had 2 payrises that were greater than 1% together with several years pay freeze.

Figgygal · 20/07/2022 20:40

I had 4% in march
We about to do another exceptional review for junior roles and for retention risks up to 7% for graduates.
Im not deemed a flight risk so nothing for me

Private sector 9000 uk employees

This is so good to hear.

Have just left a private sector job where I had a 5% payrise. Back to public sector soon where they've only just introduced NLW.

Tohaveandtohold · 20/07/2022 20:47

Every one in the company got 2.5% in March but I had a promotion at the beginning of the year which resulted in a 23% pay rise. It felt like a lot of increase at the time but not so much now after tax, NI increase and extra childcare is taken into account.

RagzRebooted · 20/07/2022 20:48

Health care, but General Practice so technically private not NHS.
3% for all of us (except the Doctors) last year, as they decided to offer the same as the NHS rise.
17% for me personally in January, as I hadn't had a rise since taking on a lot of new skills (which make the practice money) and a senior colleague left so I took on her work and hours. I had to make a strong case for it, but my boss was on side.

janj2301 · 20/07/2022 20:50

from £9.5 to £11 (not sure of %) not had one since September 2020, work for a GP

PoleFairy · 20/07/2022 20:50

Me and DH both private sector. DH had 2% payrise (he's only had 1% every year for the last 7 years so it's better than that). I had 4.5%. I am always surprised when private sector complain lots about only getting a small percentage pay rise as I don't know many people in private sector getting big payrises. I had years and years where I got 1% and I've had years with nothing.

JinCocktail · 20/07/2022 20:53

Private sector 0%

NineToFiveish · 20/07/2022 20:54

Only because I changed jobs. Was a 20% increase.

FizzyLizt · 20/07/2022 20:55

I am getting a public sector pay rise, but it's 2.5% 😬

BellaEllaWella · 20/07/2022 21:03

15% overall since November - 6.7% then 2.1% which I wasn’t happy with so negotiated another 6.1% - I’ve been told they won’t go any higher for the role but I’ll look to move companies this year.
