To raise a complaint to the school

Aibu to complain to the school that under 6 year olds were taken out for 30-45 minutes this morning given the temperatures (28°c) to play?

Are they all still alive and well?

pantherpie · 19/07/2022 16:34

28 isn't mental. If it was over 33 id say YANBU.

DenbyChina · 19/07/2022 16:35

Was there shade? Had parents provided sun screen, hats and water? Did anyone collapse? Are you potentially over reacting?

luxxlisbon · 19/07/2022 16:35

I can’t wait for the heatwave to be over just so I can stop seeing these threads.

LividLaVidaLoca · 19/07/2022 16:35

If they hadn’t, you can guarantee some other parent would be complaining they were cooped up indoors.

They can’t win and they’re doing their best under ridiculous circumstances. What on earth do you hope to achieve?

Dartmoorcheffy · 19/07/2022 16:35

So if you were on your holidays abroad would you stay inside all day? I think not.

Sirzy · 19/07/2022 16:35

As long as there was shade and all children where well hydrated I don’t see an issue. I assume parents where sensible enough to put suncream on and supply hats

spanieleyes · 19/07/2022 16:36

Ours went out to play this morning, they stayed under the trees, didn't run around and wore hats and sun cream. They survived.

This afternoon, we stayed in.

KatherineofGaunt · 19/07/2022 16:37

What time was it? Was there shade? Did they have access to water/hats etc?

APurpleSquirrel · 19/07/2022 16:38

DD said their classroom was 40 degrees yesterday, 45 in the playground & 33 under the trees on the field - they spent the morning on the field but the afternoon in class.
28 outside is fine as long as they had sunscreen, hats, water & shade - that's no more than many places people go on holiday to & stay outside for much longer.

I keep hiding them - but they're like weeds, as soon as you hide one another pops up!!

SummerHouse · 19/07/2022 16:39

I trust the school to make a decision. There are variables. Shade, hats, breeze, sun screen, access to water, temp of the classroom. Maybe we are lucky but our school seem to get it right every time. They were kept in today but it's 39° here.

Ablooo · 19/07/2022 16:39

What I don't understand is that this was an off site visit which could have been held off until tomorrow/Thursday when the temperatures dropped.

bloodywhitecat · 19/07/2022 16:40

I was out in the garden this morning with two under 5s, surely 28° is a fairly normal summer temperature for this country? We made the most of being able to get out before it got too hot.

IGotItInTheSales · 19/07/2022 16:41

It's 28 degrees tomorrow though?

Ablooo · 19/07/2022 16:43

It's currently 39 here now, it's 19 tomorrow so massive difference

OP posts:
alnawire · 19/07/2022 16:43

What would be the nature of the complaint? I do t think 'you took them outside' is really enough.

DenbyChina · 19/07/2022 16:43

You had the option to keep your child off if you wanted to. If you’re on holiday, I doubt that your child sits completely still in front of a fan so that they don’t over heat. Lots of schools don’t have air conditioning so outside is generally cooler.

Anothernamechangeplease · 19/07/2022 16:43

28 degrees is fine - not that hot at all. If you had said 38, then I'd have agreed with you. Ridiculous to complain to the school about this!

28 degrees is really not that crazy. It’s hardly 40.
Plus the time outside was in the morning, what temp was it when kids were waking to school? Or is that not allowed either.

If kids weren’t allowed out in 28 degrees they would be cooped for a lot of May-July in the south.

LisaSimpson77 · 19/07/2022 16:46

🤦‍♀️ the amount of drama and moaning on here today is laughable!!!

IGotItInTheSales · 19/07/2022 16:47

@LisaSimpson77

It really is! Whinging and whining

Russell19 · 19/07/2022 16:47

I'm a reception teacher and took my class out at 9-9.45 with water, hats, shade and suncream. Told them not to run and to sit with their drinks etc because I knew later in the day it would be too hot to go outside and they're like caged animals if they don't go outside 🤣

Itloggedmeoutagain · 19/07/2022 16:49

The world will not end if the kids go out for a bit at 28 degrees!
Guessing they don't walk to school then. Or go abroad on holiday.

SD1978 · 19/07/2022 16:50

Yes you are unreasonable.
