Please be kind. I'm severely emetophobic and my anxiety is sky rocketing because I think I've just given myself food poisoning.

Basically - cooked mince on Saturday, put it in the fridge cooked. On Sunday added it to a lasagne and reheated in the oven when I cooked the lasagna. There was left over lasagna
(and this is where I was stupid😫), so I put in the fridge on Sunday. Just heated it up in the microwave tonight for my tea. I ate just under half before I realised my mistake - ie eating mince that has technically been reheated twists after cooking.

I'm going to get poorly arent I? 😭 I'm really scared.

I do this all the time. Weekly probably, and have never got sick.

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/07/2022 01:13

Honestly?

The biggest issue I have is that you boil the lasagne sheets!

I make my sauce waterierer (bullshit made up word of the day, yes I do know what it should be!) and the pasta cooks with the liquid for about 45 minutes to an hour. Who can be arsed with precooking the pasta?! I thought that was how it was supposed to be done...happy to be corrected.

But to answer your OP....yes I have done this and yes we all survived.

Can I just check ... those who are saying they do it all the time, do you mean:

Day 1. Cook mince in pan and put in fridge
Day 2. Add to another dish and cook in oven. Put leftover in fridge.
Day 3. Reheat leftover.

That's basically what I did.

Yes have down this and with cottage pie

the reheated leftovers are always the best

I'm also phobic and have a stomach of steel (probably due to being phobic!)
I wouldn't worry about it at all, you would have to try pretty hard to poison yourself with a lasagne Grin like leaving it at room temp for days
I'm more careful with chicken and fish

Hello! Food microbiologist here. This is safe as long as you’ve reheated to 165 degrees, you’re correct it’s advised to reheat cooked mince only once, however as long as you are sensible & reheat to very hot (165 degrees) you will be fine & in theory you could keep reheating it with no Ill effects. Please don’t worry, a microwave will generally get it piping hot. If you are ever not sure or worried about anything like this in the future it’s a good idea to check out food standards agency website, they generally have q&a sections & you absolutely won’t have been the first person to ask so the answer is usually there! Also it would list any food recalls or safety warnings & to the best of my knowledge there’s nothing alarming happening with mince at the moment.

This is so helpful, thank you!

I am alive and well and I feel absolutely fine.
I'd have got sick by now if I was going to, wouldn't I? I think I'm going to be ok...... 🤞🏻

Without*

Same here (i.e without the refrigerator part)

BMW6 · 19/07/2022 08:16

That food will have left your stomach by now, so none available to vomit

Chilli, spag bol, stews and casseroles are all much better the second day. In fact I've always taken it that if you're planning properly you're meant to make them on the assumption they will sit for a day.

Our big batch of mince is called “ it’s 3 day mince time”!
when lockdown came about and we were really not going out we really got into the making meals count and last. So we have big packs that last either twice or as with the nice 3 days. Never had a problem op. And before that we have leftovers all the time.
also who doesn’t make a lasagne in the biggest dish you own so you can have it for days!!

As waiting lists are so long, have you sought techniques to help?
do you get like this a lot and it life debilitating or is this just an off day?
look at today: you survived all of last night, there was your evidence yet you were still seeking reassurance.
also what would you have does if someone said you might get poorly? How does it actually change how YOU feel about the situation?and how long does that last before your head tells you something different again and tries to tell you or manipulate you into thinking we or you could be wrong and I might become ill ?

I agree that I wouldn't wait for therapy if you are going to be waiting a while. Having a good therapist is really helpful, but ultimately the gold-standard therapeutic approach for emetophobia - exposure therapy - is something you can do yourself, if you are committed enough. You need to understand the correct way to do it, but there are a lot resources out there that you can use.
