Don’t forget to put out water for birds!

A reminder for those with gardens to please not forget to put out water for the birds, bees, butterflies, hedgehogs and insects! Many won’t make it otherwise.

It doesn’t have to be fancy bird baths, just any old plate, bowl or even a shallow oven plate is perfect for hedgehogs, so they don’t drown!

Appreciate bumping for this thread, thank you. ❤️🦋🦔

Checked my wildlife camera this morning and a little hedgehog was in the garden at 11 last night thirstily lapping up the water I left out. I always top up the bowl in that corner of the garden.

I have just put out another bowl of water near the bird feeder too

They aren't drinking it here it's not going down.

I am so jealous of all of you , river otters , newts , snakes, bathing birds , hedgehogs.

I have a tiny flaged yard no trees near by with brick walls so no little ones creeping in .
I put out a suet block in a holder and a seed tray with water but the water got knocked off the wall and I am sure it was just one wood pigeon that ate all the suet

Just to bump this. My work colleague had a bird drop out of the sky, dead, into her garden this morning. Obviously it may not be heat-related. But it maybe was. 😟

Sparklingbrook · 19/07/2022 14:32

I have had to pick up and a dead magpie from the garden today. It was right next to the water tray. The cat has been the house since the heatwave started so it wasn't her and she's not big enough for that. Sad

Sirzy · 19/07/2022 14:51

I put DS old tuff tray on the floor with some water in which the birds where enjoying this morning.

7Worfs · 19/07/2022 15:45

One frog casualty here too - no idea if heat related, it was in the pond cooling off, but didn’t survive.

FooFighter99 · 19/07/2022 16:02

I would love to do this, but we have 4 cats so it would probably end up in a massacre

Loving everyone's pictures though!

We put water out all year round. Love seeing the birds drink and bathe in it.

We have 4 different containers, 2 quite large and 2 smaller and shallower. We have also this year made quite a large pond in the front garden to attract wildlife. Quite a few birds are drinking there too.

We get a row of birds bathing in the guttering of our shed which is quite amusing
