Anything you want what would it be ?

OP posts:
littlepeas · 15/07/2022 01:32

Cars probably. Obviously much better public transport would need to be in place first.

80sMum · 15/07/2022 01:35

I would ban cars from travelling any faster than 20mph on all narrow rural country lanes - and drivers would be required to give priority to pedestrians, cyclists and horse-riders.

Politicians who have second jobs/employ family/make false expenses claims/tell lies... I know the last one is a big ask

The last one is why no one should have a magic wand. EVERYONE lies. Barring people with very specific cognitive differences. Everyone.

There is a psychometric test to see how much of a big fat liar you are. One of the questions is something like "I regularly tell lies to people I love". If you say no, you're a liar. On the test. Because we do. Father Christmas, does my bum look big, do you like the food, are you hot in here? We lie constantly.

Gingernaut · 15/07/2022 01:37

Anything which makes unecessary noise

Wind chimes
Roaring car exhausts
Car radios/speakers
Motorcycle exhausts/engines

QuestionableMouse · 15/07/2022 01:42

Fireworks, outside of organised displays. I hate them.

abblie · 15/07/2022 01:44

Social media

perimenofertility · 15/07/2022 01:45

People using the word "like" in a sentence when they are not referring a similarity to something. Some people seem to throw the word into every sentence, it doesn't make sense, it drives me mad. The more you notice it, the more you notice it.

And also this!

TreeOfPain · 15/07/2022 01:48

I'm not into banning things.

I'd just like a world where people don't chose to engage in bollockry and damaging behaviour because they know better and were taught better.

Obviously that's not going to happen. I still wouldn't ban anything though, people have to make their own decisions and reach their own conclusions.

Banning stuff just makes it desirable.

And has unintended consequences.

There are plenty of things I don't agree with and think are harmful, banning them won't make them not exist anymore though.

These threads are never 'lighthearted'.

They always end up vitriolic, horribly prejudiced and then deleted.

DockOTheBay · 15/07/2022 01:50

I don't understand "surnames" as an answer, how would you distinguish between people? I know at least 6 girls/women called Hannah. Would they have a number? Or be referred to by some other characteristic?

I agree with fireworks in private gardens, wind chimes and politicians who disagree with something just because the opposition agree to it, surely there must be some issues that both parties actually agree on?!

I would add to the list: arriving an hour in advance to pick your child up from school and sitting in your car in a parking space with the engine running, filling the atmosphere with cloud of smoke just so you can't keep the air con on and your teenager doesn't have to walk 100 yards.

Phrenologistsfinger · 15/07/2022 02:06

Ooh, I have a long list!

the internal combustion engine
fossil fuels
Meat
fish
eggs/dairy
animal cruelty/neglect
plastic
inane shite like the Kardashians
musicals
TWAW
climate change denial
fireworks (other than public displays for special holidays, requiring a licence).
plastic grass
concreting front gardens for cars
tree-felling (unless for H&S or tree protection reasons, eg disease control or limited controlled forestry for necessary commodities)
building on agricultural land or greenfield sites
the assumption that women want, have or can have children
misogyny
cigarette smoking outside in public areas

It's easy. You just save them on your phone as

(Hannah who works down the florist's)
Hannah Flowers

(Hannah that I met at a party and all I can remember is she's from France)
Hannah French

(Hannah who I know through her mum Julie)
Hannah Julie'sdaughter

(Hannah who's a brunette)
Hannah Brown

Even easier if everyone else uses the same shorthand to distinguish one Hannah from another too. Then I guess if she has kids they could use the same distinguisher, just for the sake of simplicity and so people know they're related.

I'd ban sneezing. There's just no good reason for it.

calmlakes · 15/07/2022 02:24

Mamils

calmlakes · 15/07/2022 02:24

Particularly on country roads or main roads where there are cycle lanes alongside.

Dita73 · 15/07/2022 02:30

Ironically,censorship

RicherThanYew · 15/07/2022 02:33

The holes in crumpets because they look fucking evil.
The way that smart, black school/work trousers sound when scratched.
Reoccurring ingrown toenails.
People being mean for kicks.
Me, I'd like to ban me.

5zeds · 15/07/2022 02:33

Large schools. All primary’s less 100 and secondary less than 300.

Princessoftheuniverse · 15/07/2022 02:35

Smoking in public.

Chewing gum in public (especially for football managers).

Self service tills.

Missing the t out of words.

Princessoftheuniverse · 15/07/2022 02:37

Oh and smart motorways.

TreeOfPain · 15/07/2022 02:38

That's a list for sure @Phrenologistsfinger!

The internal combustion engine? So mass transport is a complete no in your world?

Fossil fuels? They exist, man has been burning tar and oil for millennia. At what point do they become bannable? Are you going to ban carbon too?

Meat? I'm made of meat, as I presume you are too. Are you going to ban my muscle-fibre? Are you going to ban carnivores?

You want to ban fish???

You want to ban eggs and dairy? What about my eggs and dairy? Banned?

Animal cruelty? Have you seen how most animals live in the wild? Not kind. Let's ban animals then, they are bastards to each-other.

Plastic? Thankfully there will be absolutely no plastics in the device on which you typed your list. So that's good.

Inane shite? Very easy not to engage with. Just pretend it's not there. If enough people followed this plan, it would cease to be. Probably the easiest of ll your potential bannings.

Musicals? Not a fan, but they do bring a lot of joy to a lot of people, why ban something that makes other people happy and you can VERY EASILY IGNORE.

TWAW? We all know they're not. That one will shake itself down.

Climate change denial? It's not denial so much as human nature, who are we with out relatively comfortable lives to tell the developing world that they can't have what we have? Can't want better for their children? I think emerging technology will save us. So lose the hair shirt.

Fireworks? Do you not like fun and visual spectacles that can be enjoyed by thousands of people? I do!

Plastic grass? I'll give you that, it's shit. Still wouldn't ban it though.

Concreting front gardens? Also a bit rubbish, makes no sense because you neeed PP for a dropped kerb so no parking on that bit of road either, so has no use in reducing congestion or relieving parking problems. This is the only thing I'd consider banning, only because it really confers no discernable benefits. It is absolutely pointless. Un point.

Tree-felling? Ambiguous. Some trees need to be felled!

Greenfield site building? There's a housing shortage. I'm a big fan of exploring alternative solutions, in some areas green-field is the only way. Unless you're a massive NIMBY.

The assumption re women and their ability to give birth? Niche. Most people generally don't give a shit unless they're a deranged relative. Anyone else is just making polite conversation.

Misogyny? Love to ban, love to. Banning ain't going to work. That one is going to be a long, hard slog, and I'm with you.

Cigarette smoking OUTSIDE in public areas?? You can piss off, you threw me out of the pub, where the fuck do you want me to go now? Down the drains??

Appleblum · 15/07/2022 02:53

Smoking.

You want to ban fish? Poor fishies Sad

(I'm a pedant so I don't care that you OBVIOUSLY meant banning humans consuming fish and eggs etc.)

MoonKnight · 15/07/2022 03:05

Fuckery

TreeOfPain · 15/07/2022 03:21

@RooniIWazlib

@Phrenologistsfinger wants to ban fish.

She absolutely didn't specify why. She could be phobic and want them eradicated for no other reason than her disgust at their existence.

For a pedant, you're reading an awful lot into one word!
