2 kids age 8 and 6 would like the pool out ive said no because its not really an appropriate time there in school every day untill 4 we have plans this weekend so it won't get used and then next week when they finish school on Thursday- on Friday were away for 5 days so its not practical then either id be putting it up blowing it up and filling it pretty deep for them pretty much not to use it as its far too hot after school at the moment and we have to get on with the evening things dinner baths after school clubs which are Tuesday and weds and then bed. Plus the amount of water it uses costs!

Anyway a friend said im being unfair and should let them have it up

Is your pool up ???
I'll happily put it up when we come back from holiday because then they've got all day in it for 4 weeks untill another holiday we've got

God yes, get it up. Mine are coming home and going straight in the sea. It's just too hot. I know it's a ball ache but you'll be a hero.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 14/07/2022 08:24

Stop being a misbag and get the pool up!

Siameasy · 14/07/2022 08:24

You could chlorinate it then you can avoid having to change the water. Ours has heated up a bit as we have had it out a while due to using the chlorine.

HarmALlama · 14/07/2022 08:25

DD comes home & gets in the pool with her school uniform on every day. Funny kid.

Plogeggio · 14/07/2022 08:26

I think people are being very unfair on you. We're in a similar position and debated pros and cons of putting the thing up, because it's quite big and we're going away soon. However, we concluded that we had to really as it was just unfair on them to leave it down in a genuine heatwave. It's now up!

TheOrigRights · 14/07/2022 08:37

A valid reason would be the big waste of water if it's going to get dumped, but other than that, it makes me feel a bit sad that your lives are so busy that you feel a 6 and 8 year old won't get much use out of it in the next week before you go away.

SweatyAndGrumpy · 14/07/2022 08:38

As an adult I totally get where you are coming from. As a kid though, this weather is MADE for pools and I think I'd rather be a bit silly and let the kids have the pool than be sensible and grown up about it.

When I think back to my best memories of my mum: they were the times she STOPPED being a grown up for a little while and we just were all just daft together.

Caspianberg · 14/07/2022 08:38

Of course. They have 4pm-8pm every afternoon surely. But even 30 mins at 7pm they will be happy with.
At the weekend, surely your not out 8am-8pm every single day with no time at home

its summer. What’s the complicated evening routine? I think most kids come home for school, do any homework at table in garden with an ice cream, then play in pool and eat dinner outside before back in pool and into pjs and bed.

Not uk, but My 2 year old was in the paddling pool at 7.30pm last night, then went for a walk around neighbourhood as cooler, nabbed biscuits from neighbour, then off to bed around 9.30pm. I wouldn’t have even attempted a super early bedtime as it’s too hot and cooler evenings are the perfect time for everyone to get outside without blaring sun

Caspianberg · 14/07/2022 08:40

You could also buy a cheap smaller pool so less time and water used. Then just water the plants and leave some pot in trays for wildlife every few days when you change it.

Yodaisawally · 14/07/2022 08:43

Put it up! It'll probably be pissing with rain when you get back from holiday

I was just about to suggest this - out "main" pool is the type you inflate a ring which then floats as you fill it with water. We decided that was too much to sort before the summer holidays. OH boughts a little toddler pool. It's seriously only about 4 inches deep and I thought it was a stupid thing to buy. I can admit when I'm wrong, the kids absolutely love it and are in it every evening!

They just want something to splash about in and cool off

Ontomatopea · 14/07/2022 08:54

I think the thing is for kids is that 30 minutes will be so happy for them they'll remember it more than the 1 hour spent getting ready for bed etc.

Fairyliz · 14/07/2022 08:58

It’s one of those things where you have to seize the moment.
By the time you get back from your break it will probably be 10 degrees and raining given the U.K. weather.

Rainbowshit · 14/07/2022 09:00

YABU. Put up the pool.

Floella22 · 14/07/2022 09:00

When you go abroad do you say to your dc ‘it’s far too hot to use the pool?’
Stop being mean, shove a T-shirt, hat and cream on them and get them in the pool.

FeliciaFancybottom · 14/07/2022 09:03

Paddling pools are a huge waste of water, I don't care how much of a misery it makes me but I say stick to your guns.

If you feel it's a waste of water then surely you just refuse to buy and own one. Unlike the OP who has bought one but refuses to use it.

YABU OP, put the pool up and let them have fun.

Bednobsbroomsticks · 14/07/2022 09:07

My kids are 22 and 16. I still put the pool up. It's small but I stick a rubber ring in it and float around drinking prosecco haha

Palamon · 14/07/2022 09:08

Don’t be a misery guts. Get the paddling pool out. How often is it this hot?

CrunchyCarrot · 14/07/2022 09:09

Goodness, let your kids have some fun! Our neighbour's kids get in their blow up pool after school each day, clearly love it if the shrieking is anything to go by!

Quia · 14/07/2022 09:11

How can it possibly be far too hot after school to use the pool?

and we have to get on with the evening things dinner baths after school clubs which are Tuesday and weds and then bed

You could give the bath a miss if they've been in the pool. Tuesday is going to be 35 degrees, are you sure the after school club will run? Ditto for the Wednesday one, given it's the second to last day of term? And does it matter if they go to bed a bit later the last few days of term? They will probably sleep better for having had a chance to play and cool down.

Inertia · 14/07/2022 09:11

YABU! You don’t need to fill it so it’s deep.

Don’t understand your comment about it being too hot to use after school- surely that’s precisely when you need it? Just make sure the children have sunscreen or UV swimsuits.

If they give baths a miss as a result of having been in the pool, then there isn't really any waste.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 14/07/2022 09:25

Give the poor kids their pool and make their day! It's the perfect weather for it. By the time you get round to it after the holiday another reason will come along.
