I think my boss is eating my dog's peanut butter.....

I bring my dog to work once a week. To keep him entertained if he get's a bit fed up I put some of his peanut butter on a licky mat for him. Went to the jar today and I swear it has gone down since last time - colleague says they haven't touched it, sure the dog hasn't helped himself so that just leaves the boss. Would I be unreasonable to bring him a ham bone and tell him he's a good boy? Seriously though.... I don't want to embarrass him by just asking outright, so I've drawn a tiny mark on the jar to monitor the situation. Would I be unreasonable to just let him carry on??

Let your dog lick the peanut butter directly from the jar. Take a picture.
Share it with your boss with the caption, “Awww, he loves his peanut butter. He’d lick the jar clean if I let him”.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, I don’t know what will.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/07/2022 15:53

Put a note on the jar, to say your dog eats out of the jar.

I came on to suggest this just from your title!

LookItsMeAgain · 13/07/2022 15:54

Is it peanut butter that is suitable for human consumption or stuff specifically for pets?

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/07/2022 15:56

Does it actually matter?

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 13/07/2022 15:57

Right that one off op.
And mix a bit of chilli powder in and leave it in the usual place.

It might if the dog unexpectedly runs out of PB!

Of course it matters if someone is helping themselves.

Would you ask if it mattered if it was the ops cereal or whatever?

Depends on the workplace. The place I worked when I was a teenager would buy milk for teas and coffees but had notes everywhere saying it was not allowed to be used for anything else. The security guard used it in his cereal and the manager went ape shit at him. It was awful sitting in the staff room while the manager went crazy at a grown man for using the milk in his cereal.

If that manager then used someone else's peanut butter, I would have enjoyed seeing their face when they were told that the dog licked from the jar.

If it's such a small amount you have to mark the packet, yes.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/07/2022 16:03

I'm sure the dog wouldn't be happy, to know someone is eating their peanut butter Smile

TRAPPPED · 13/07/2022 16:04

I know I'm being that person but I'd rather be annoying person than take the risk. Some peanut butters contain xylitol which is really dangerous for dogs. Even worse, peanut butter brands keep changing their recipes so just because it doesn't have xylitol now doesn't mean it won't have it next time you purchase it. Please check the label - my friend's dog died after having peanut butter after they changed the recipe. She'd had it a million times before but it was a new recipe.

On a different note, I'd freak your boss out by referring to it as something like "my special lady problem peanut butter". He'll be scared enough never to touch it again but also be left forever wondering what that means.

Dozycuntlaters · 13/07/2022 16:08

I'm pretty sure OP will be giving her dog peanut butter for dogs!! I would put a post it on there, this is for Buster, he eats it from the jar and leave it at that. Oh and set up a secret recorder in the cupboard so we can see his face when he realises what he's been eating lol.

Roseglen84 · 13/07/2022 16:10

This is one of the best thread titles I've ever read 😀

Hunderland · 13/07/2022 16:11

Dogs don’t need dog peanut butter! So long as it does not contain xylitol they can have any peanut butter, my dog loves it.

There's absolutely no need to buy dog peanut butter!

Any brand is fine as long as it doesn't have palm oil or xylitol in it.

missdemeanors · 13/07/2022 16:16

I'm concerned about your dog getting fed up at work. Wouldn't he better off with whatever arrangement you have on the other four days?

Agree about marking the jar though

NellesVilla · 13/07/2022 16:20

Great thread, OP!

My dog has her own pots of mango and carrot. She’s a lovely generous character but I don’t think she’d be impressed if someone kept nicking her nibbles!

Haha! Do this😆

I'm pretty sure OP will be giving her dog peanut butter for dogs!! My dog just has Sainsburys own brand (no nasties apart from palm oil) and loves to clean out the empty jar when we can't scrape out any more. It keeps her occupied for ages

theemmadilemma · 13/07/2022 16:36

This deserves classics just for the title.

Of course it matters if someone's nicking your stuff!

AlpacaBag · 13/07/2022 16:48

Thanks for all you responses so far! Love the idea of a photo of him eating it from the jar!

Yes, it is safe peanut butter for doggy, wasn't sure if it was safe for hoomans.
No, it doesn't really matter, but it's funny.
And don't worry about doggy been at work with me, as long as I'm in sight he is very happy (read, clingy)

Will update tomorrow on jar situation.
