I think my boss is eating my dog's peanut butter.....

I bring my dog to work once a week. To keep him entertained if he get's a bit fed up I put some of his peanut butter on a licky mat for him. Went to the jar today and I swear it has gone down since last time - colleague says they haven't touched it, sure the dog hasn't helped himself so that just leaves the boss. Would I be unreasonable to bring him a ham bone and tell him he's a good boy? Seriously though.... I don't want to embarrass him by just asking outright, so I've drawn a tiny mark on the jar to monitor the situation. Would I be unreasonable to just let him carry on??

I'm concerned about your dog getting fed up at work. Wouldn't he better off with whatever arrangement you have on the other four days?

Agree about marking the jar though

I don't think dogs tend to find work as boring and tedious as us humans to be honest. In my experience of office dogs, they enjoy it more than we do.

SnowyLamb · 13/07/2022 16:56

If I was your boss and your dog started causing discontent/accusations among the staff, I'd be reconsidering the dogs at work policy.

You've no idea if it was him. Your colleagues were hardly going to own up. Personally I wouldn't draw attention to any mild dog related aggravation.

My dog hasn't formed a formal complaint, we're just amused!

Just sounded like the dog was perhaps bored to me and needed more stimulation - as @TRAPPPED says, offices aren't the most exciting places!

Not sure why peanut butter is the answer if doggy is just clingy and needs to be in sight of owner.

Peanut butter with palm oil is bleurgh; I always buy the (more expensive) stuff without; I expect the boss absolutely knows what he's doing!

Anxiernie · 13/07/2022 17:49

Of course it matters, it's stealing. You don't help yourself to other people's food or drink.

PuckeredArseFace · 13/07/2022 17:54

My DH did this, he kept complaining it tasted 'funny', God how I laughed when I saw what he was doing. He gagged
Hahahahahaha
TBF the dog hated it too Grin

Rogue1001MNer · 13/07/2022 17:56

Hope it doesn't make your boss feel too ruff

HaveringWavering · 13/07/2022 18:00

WTF is a “licky mat”?

BurscoughBooths · 13/07/2022 18:00

Maybe your colleagues don’t want to listen to your dog slobbering all over his licky mat and are deliberately trying to empty the jar

Allthecoolusernamesaregone · 13/07/2022 18:15

I don’t really have anything much to add except to say congratulations for one of the most random and funny titles ever.
Just a thought though, isn’t dog Peanut Butter unsalted? It might taste a bit bland to your boss. Maybe he could have some Good Boy Choc Drops to go with it?

RosaGallica · 13/07/2022 18:59

Shall we save some posters from having apoplexy, it’s far too hot to get all huffy….

Op, why do you take your dog to work 1 day a week? Is the dog working, or a nice policy, or… whatever?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/07/2022 19:19

Does your boss appear to have a shinier coat, or wet nose, wag his finger a lot?

If so I would assume that he is at the peanut butter.

If he starts snuffling around your groin area I'd switch to Marmite.

Let your dog lick the peanut butter directly from the jar. Take a picture.
Share it with your boss with the caption, “Awww, he loves his peanut butter. He’d lick the jar clean if I let him”.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, I don’t know what will.

Yes this should stop it

Ontomatopea · 13/07/2022 19:34

"my special lady problem peanut butter". this has made me laugh out loud and my DH has asked what I'm laughing at and I just can't explain it.

BalloonSlayer · 13/07/2022 19:44

I used to eat our DDog's Good Boy Choc Drops when desperate for chocolate as a teenager.

Never did me any harm and to this day I have bounding vitality, glossy hair and a moist nose.

I will confess however to being irritated when someone pretends to have thrown a stick or ball, when they haven't actually thrown it. This can lead a person into expending unnecessary energy and bring about disappointment.

WingingItSince1973 · 13/07/2022 19:49

Great thread. Off to Amazon to buy a licky mat. Thanks op 😄 But idea wise, throw a stick while your work colleagues are around, whoever makes a dash for it must be the dog food thief 😉

3WildOnes · 13/07/2022 19:54

My dog has his own peanut butter jar as I use a knife to transfer to peanut butter from jar to Kong and will wipe it inside the kong numerous times before it is stuffed. I wouldn't want to then eat from the same jar.

Although I suspect it might well solve the problem by having the boss decide no dogs at work.

Mariposista · 13/07/2022 23:50

This is such a funny post. Do keep us updated.
Wish I could bring my good boy to work.

KangFang · 13/07/2022 23:53

Keep us updated.
Definitely mark the jar.

MatildaTheCat · 13/07/2022 23:56

If your boss allows you to have your dog at work then he is awesome and you should buy him an absolutely top notch jar of PNB all to himself.

AlpacaBag · 14/07/2022 08:54

Your comments are making me LOL at my desk, I knew you'd deliver Mumsnet! And to those of you worrying about my dog at work, he loves it I can assure you, and my boss wouldn't change the dog policy, and my colleagues are happy having him here and everything is FINE - you are massively missing the point (humour) of the post 😂

No sign of boss yet this morning, but I have brought bread for the staff room so if anyone wants toast they can help themselves.....
