Being very responsive can lead to children having a very secure attachment, which makes them less clingy, because they know we'll be there when thet need us.

^ yes there's so much research on why the "snowflakes" are being raised this way! I'm not childless either.

Being very responsive and taking a couple of minutes to finish making a sandwich are not mutually exclusive. I'm a very responsive parent but there are times I do finish what I am doing before tending to my baby because that's just common sense really. I wouldn't abandon my sandwich half made when I was very hungry for the sake of a minute or so of crying. I would finish it quickly and then tend to baby and eat my sandwich while doing so!

You can be responsive to your baby AND take a couple of minutes to make yourself a sandwich. It's not an either or situation. I am sure that if the baby was in serious distress or imminent danger then OP would have abandoned said sandwich and attended to them straight away but honestly leaving them to cry for a very short period of time while you feed yourself isn't going to destroy attachment. This goes double if you are breastfeeding as you have to eat and drink in order to do that, in a very real way OP was attending to her babies needs. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

You did nothing wrong OP, your friend is being a dick.

@CecilyP Isn’t your baby just as likely to cry when you’re in the middle of making your pack lunch the night before? clearly I meant when they were sleeping!
