Baby in car seat next to me whilst having a pedicure

Prepared to be told IABU.

Came for a pedicure. One seat left, and in the seat next to me is a baby in a car seat. Mother is next to him on other side.

Baby looks around 4 months old. Dummy in, peaceful (so far).

Aibu or do you not bring a baby to a beauticians?

If baby is quiet whats the problem? I always used to take my little one anf timed it during her nap in the car seat

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/07/2022 18:22

Why would you not? If it's a pedicure her hands are presumably free if he needs picking up or feeding?

ShowOfHands · 12/07/2022 18:22

Can you explain why the baby shouldn't be there?

I've literally never been to a beauticians but I'm assuming they're markedly different from crack dens?

PinkYellowPink · 12/07/2022 18:22

YABU

It's a place where people go to relax ( and maybe escape their own children). If baby starts screaming and she's mid - polish, it might disturb the clients?

YABU.

So mean.

crosbystillsandmash · 12/07/2022 18:27

Really?
I've just got back from my regular manicure and I wouldn't have minded at all if someone had their baby/child with them.
I'd be glad the parent was getting a treatment and doing something for themselves, mostly because I can empathise and see the world beyond the end of my own nose.

gamerchick · 12/07/2022 18:27

Can't think of anything less relaxing than people fiddling with me feet like.

Did the baby wake up and disturb your peace? Doesn't sound like it.

ItsSnowJokes · 12/07/2022 18:28

I used to take mine when she was tiny. Used to book it for when she was having a nap. No issues at all.

Caspianberg · 12/07/2022 18:29

I think it’s fine. It’s a place to go get your nails done, not to necessarily relax like a spa.

Sexismdoesntrule · 12/07/2022 18:30

Ah but the toenail grinder was ok, got it

Notanotherwindow · 12/07/2022 18:30

I wouldn't, I don't think the fumes from the acetone and polishes are good for them. My local one has a sign up saying no kids under 5 for this reason.

MikiSu · 12/07/2022 18:30

Totally disagree, I got to a salon to get beauty treatments done, I go to a spa to relax

UABVU.

For example. I dont have any family around at all. By around I mean in the UK. I take my baby to the hairdressers etc. I have no other choice.

Happytap · 12/07/2022 18:30

I always take mine otherwise I’d never be able to get my nails done!

MiddleParking · 12/07/2022 18:32

You might find it relaxing, but that’s not the primary purpose of a beauticians. They’re for beauty treatments. YABU but you know that.

DangerouslyBored · 12/07/2022 18:32

I do get what you mean. Not exactly a baby friendly place anyway, all those chemicals. All ok if the baby can remain asleep but babies, they tend to wake up and be noisy..

bloodywhitecat · 12/07/2022 18:34

I don't have pedi or manicures but I take mine when I go to get my hair or eyebrows done, should I never go again in case one of them disturbs someone? Not everyone has ready access to babysitters for a variety of reasons.

You take your baby to the hairdresser?!

Blimey. I wouldn’t dare take any of mine. Guess it’s fine if they’re quiet but I wouldn’t be amused if they kicked off. Definitely don’t go to the hairdresser to hear other peoples kids

HermioneKipper · 12/07/2022 18:39

I wouldn’t like it if the baby was crying but ok as long as they’re quiet I suppose. A pedicure is a very rare treat for me so I wouldn’t like it disturbed by a crying baby.

The reason I don’t get them is because we rarely have help with the children and if my husband’s looking after them, I’m working

Caspianberg · 12/07/2022 18:40

@HermioneKipper - I take mine to hairdresser. When am I supposed to get my hair cut otherwise? Dh works during hairdressers hours, and he doesn’t attend childcare yet or have anyone to babysit. He’s now 2, I took him last week. He spent the hour with a water spray they gave him ‘washing’ my hands, and then looking at crappy magazines and eating too many biscuits.

fizzyfood · 12/07/2022 18:42

The smell of the nail varnishes would put me off taking a baby with me as it's so strong.

Itsinyourhand · 12/07/2022 18:43

I never have because of the fumes. I’ve seen nail technicians wearing face masks (pre-covid) so I would never take a baby in there for that reason and that reason alone.

Do you know the salon’s policy against children?

If seeing babies in salons annoys you then look for an alternative salon that has a 0 children or under 18s policy.

He sounds better behaved than mine then! Fair enough if he was quiet I guess. I’d have no hope of them sitting still/being quiet for an hour in a hairdresser.

Do what other people do though and go at the weekend/evening slots or get a mobile hairdresser to come to your house
