Ava Whites killer gets 13 years today for stabbing her to death in Liverpool last November.

The judge refused to name him as well.
We just keep hearing crappy sentences and decisions all the time?
All on the side of the offender?

Do you think anything will ever change? Why couldn't we hear the news he's been locked up for 35 years and he has been named?
Someone some balls needs to take charge. Countryside an embarrassment.

Being called a nonce or paedophile by a juvenile detainee is a daily occurrence for the police and for prison/YO staff I should think.

You might want to look at the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACE's) in relation to juvenile offenders. A large number of these children will have had hideous life experiences. Not everyone is lucky enough to grow up in a kind protective family - and I'm not saying that's the sole solution either.

I also agree that judges are often out of step with public opinion.

My old neighbour and his best friend were the criminal blight of the local town - they were charged and found guilty. One of the rules of them being on bail was not to have contact with each other. They appealed and the judge over ruled it saying it wasn't fair to deprive them of their friendship, despite most of their time together being spent doing criminal activity!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

But he will be a relatively young man when he's released, free to enjoy life with a lot of tax-payer support.

"A lot" of tax payer support? A minute fraction of what it would cost to keep him in prison.

Of course there's a lot of anger when serious crime is committed, but I can't believe people think the answer for a child who is vulnerable himself is to lock him up indefinitely.

All this money could have been so much better spent supporting the mother "who couldn't control him" but no everyone wants to judge her, a victim of DV, too.

13 years AKA 6.5 years, absolutely joke.😠

The UK judicial system is pretty good, thank goodness we don't have American style sentences. Although they need to do something to keep criminal barristers going to maintain standards. Cases like that of Ava White are always emotive, but I think not naming the perpetrators is good, some gain a sort of cult celebrity status which is far worse.

If our justice system is "pretty good" I'd hate to see really bad.

Problem is we are seeing more and more parents who cant control and arent interested. Lots are NOT victims of DV they are just crap parents and crap at discipline etc. These children become societys problem. Let loose to wander the streets.

What will happen to his remaining siblings?

Do you know any of these parents?

I've worked with troubled teens for a long time. I've met some dreadful parents, but I've never met one who really doesn't care.

They're all doing their best with the resources they have. Often they had dreadful childhoods themselves and are living lives the average MNetter couldn't begin to imagine, with trauma, voilence, poverty, poor education, addiction all just a way of life and no support network at all. Compared to their own experiences they believe they are doing a good job. And in some ways they are, they get up and keep going everyday in circumstances that would fell the vast majority of us.

When they or their child is struggling society, even the structures that should be there to support them, want to strike them down rather than support them, as ably demonstrated by this thread.

He can’t be named as he is only 15
He can’t get a life sentence as he is only 15

I wouldn’t want you in charge of the justice system if you think minors should get life sentences and be named. You sound very antiquated and if you think life sentences for children is ok would likely be in favour of bringing back the death penalty for adults. No thanks.
