The F###ing scaffolding is back!

Post 3

Briefly Post 1, Had had neighbour (1)’s scaffolding up in my garden for a month and then had argument with her misogynistic builder.

Post 2, Building work completed. Overjoyed that scaffolding finally removed Saturday morning - until I found out this was not by the company which owned it.

Today neighbour(2) said ‘I see your scaffolding has gone. Lucky you. Mine should have gone Saturday morning’

Long story short her scaffolding company thought they had collected and couldn’t understand why she was complaining, until she told them they had gone to the wrong address.

I asked her to make it clear that whatever they did with the scaffolding, I didn’t want it back. She agreed completely. She is fed up with hers, and that was for work on her own house.

I came home to find it in my front garden. It is no longer erected, doesn’t block light or access, but it takes up more space as all of the boards and poles are on the ground.

I understand to a degree why neighbour(2)’s company returned the items to where they found them.

I asked DH to phone the owning company to sort out collection, I desperately wanted someone to treat this seriously and thought he would stand a better chance.

Anyway he didn’t have any luck either. They can’t (won’t) collect until 29/7/22 - which is actually later than the date they have already given neighbour (1).

I will have no lawn left by then, there’s not enough space to use my table and chairs and I can’t easily get to my greenhouse.

We thought that after they presumably thought it had been stolen before they would want to collect urgently now it’s back.

What is my AIBU?

Have just been telling neighbour (3) about the saga. He queried why they hadn’t seen that the stencilled markings on the equipment weren’t theirs. His eyes lit up a bit when I said there were none.

He has always been fine with us, but he ‘knows’ lots of people and some of them are not averse to ‘catching’ things which ‘fall’ from lorries, etc.

He pointedly said it wasn’t a good idea for them to leave it lying in my garden, that dismantling it was noisy and time consuming, but just picking it up wasn’t, and it could easily just go missing when I was out.

I do want it gone. The man DH spoke to was rude and arrogant.

We are actually going out for several hours this evening.

WIBU to let that slip to neighbour (3)?

(I suspect it is unreasonable and that my desire to get rid of this inconvenience is clouding my normally very honest judgement.)

Good luck with it all!

Tessabelle74 · 12/07/2022 17:58

I'd be "devastated" to find out it was stolen off my lawn

alied321 · 12/07/2022 17:59

Either tell neighbour 3 to borrow it and never bring it back or tell the scaffolding company that if they don’t collect it in 2 days it’s going on Gumtree free to collect

Chocolatehamper · 12/07/2022 18:16

FrankLampardsBrokenHand · 11/07/2022 17:37

Christ no, it's not your responsibility at all. I'd move it to your neighbour's drive (the one who's actually having the work done) and tell her to sort it out.

You've far more patience than I have!

Bugger that! Do you know how heavy scaffold and boards are?!!

mummy203 · 12/07/2022 18:45

stick it on Facebook market place as abandoned scaffolding, free to who can collect first?

scrap metal?

it will be gone in a hour, the company won’t make that mistake again

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 12/07/2022 18:45

OP, have been following your thread. My neighbours had work on their roof years ago, and the scaffolding got put up in front of my house - blocking my tv signal. I called - they would not move it. Scaffolders are a law unto themselves and do not want to store the stuff, so only come back when they need it. They were complete jerks and there was nothing I could do. So happy to hear its gone and hope for an update if they come to collect it!

Peppermintpatty24 · 12/07/2022 18:50

I remember post 1 so when I saw the headline, it did make chuckle 😂😂

Chocolatehamper · 12/07/2022 18:55

Glad to hear it’s gone OP! Best result - no hassle for you and you get to laugh when they come demanding their scaffolding back!

Feel for you. What a bunch of utter Poopie heads 😡
Make sure the company that have now deposited the scaffolding, that was not for work on your property, on your garden stump up £££ to fix the damage to your garden & for the inconvenience they are causing you!
When they have brought the scaffolding that wasn’t theirs back they should have put it on the grounds of the property the work was being done at!! Cheeky beggars 😡

susiebennett · 12/07/2022 19:40

Keeping an eye for any updates, love this thread!
OP, you have the patience of a saint!!

Kudja · 12/07/2022 19:56

Let neighbour 3 take it and when the others come to collect, just tell them you assumed they had collected it already and you have no idea where it is now. Don’t go warning theft - just be very lassie faire about the whole thing.

Jem57 · 12/07/2022 19:59

And the moral of this story is
Do Not do your neighbour favours when getting work done on their house, what a palaver

Youmeandthem · 12/07/2022 20:00

Dear builder, I’m putting your scaffolding on freecycle/gum tree/Facebook to be taken for scrap unless it’s gone by tomorrow evening. Send.

Mollymoostoo · 12/07/2022 20:06

Stevienickssnickers · 11/07/2022 17:38

That would be gone in hours round here, our old radiator disappeared before the plumber had even fitted the new one.

I'd be telling them clearly that you're not responsible for their property and they need to get it before someone else does.

This. Tell them the scrap men are eyeing it up and it is not up to you to protect it. It won't be co ered by your insurance and you didn't hire it. Or move it to neighbours house who did hire it.

Kevintheminion · 12/07/2022 20:07

☝what she said...(and several others) and follow through. I would! You'll be trampled in the rush on FB marketplace.

Feel your pain and saw your fist post OP.

Kevintheminion · 12/07/2022 20:08

Ffs *first post🙄

Lizzy53 · 12/07/2022 20:16

Just tell them you are getting it collected by scrap metal company if not collected in next three days.end of

Hmm1234 · 12/07/2022 20:21

Company sounds like cowboys they don’t want their scaffolding back are you being serious!?
let neighbour 3 have to sell for scrap metal but be prepared for a hefty bill by the company

runsforsanity · 12/07/2022 20:28

@Allthecoolusernamesaregone I’m here for this 👏🏻 Do let us know if there is a part 4 😊

I think part 4 is where the builder tries to sue the OP for possession of the scaffolding.

I haven’t let anyone take the scaffolding as it was not mine to give away.

Judging by their actions so far it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they threatened to bill me.

I have no contract with them, and have never agreed to take care of their equipment, so I am not sure what that would achieve.

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 20:55

OP, it's nice you got this sorted but do come back and keep us entertained! I've never ever been so invested in scaffolding. Honestly, you have a gift with words!

HarmlessPotato · 12/07/2022 20:57

Let it go to the neighbour while you're out. Call scaffolding company or drop a line saying thank you for collecting. It seems to me everyone is taking the mick out of you abit.

Lagertha6 · 12/07/2022 21:54

And then make another thread detailing the next chapter in this song of scaffolding stories

Lagertha6 · 12/07/2022 21:58

Along with the last piece of chocolate cake that the mum went to the cafe for in the first place. The OP will rugby tackle in retaliation, nxt thing there's a full blown food fight in the cafe and ITN run headlines about how the country is going loco due to the heatwave
