I'm dying with this heat. I work from home. I have my fan on full and lots of cold water but I'm really struggling. I feel ill. Any tips on how to cool down? I can't concentrate on my work and honestly feel like I might pass out!

Wear a slightly damp spaghetti top under your clothes- keeps your heart cool. Always wear cap, sunnies and creams

That's what air conditioning was invented for. I struggle to understand why in this day and age there are people who don't at least have portable air conditioners to use in this heat.

Because not everyone has a spare couple of hundred quid to buy one? Some people have higher priorities such as feeding their kids and keeping a roof over their head.

Check your privilege

You miserable lot. This heat is fantastic. Like being on holiday. Had a lovely day WFH on my patio.

(Long hair one) Soak your hair in cold water and let it hang on your neck in a low bun. Rewet throughout the day.

Soak a vest in water then put it on and wear it.

Freeze bottles of water to take to bed.

Keep curtains shut during the day.

Suck ice cubes.

Put feet in a bowl of cold water. Soak hands in a bowl of cold water.

Stay inside at mid day.

Freeze bottles of water to drink throughout the day.

I love the heat too - especially when I have effective methods for staying cool and comfortable if I do get a bit hot. Wanting mechanisms to stay comfortable and liking the weather aren't mutually exclusive.

It's all well and good to say 'this weather is brilliant and it doesn't last forever, just enjoy it!' while you're all speaking about your aircon and outdoor spaces... I'm in a flat with a 4 month old baby who couldn't sleep tonight for the heat. It's over 30 degrees indoors for us, it's an old building with no way of being able to install aircon, opening windows while it's dark and cool has minimal impact, it was 25 degrees indoors when I woke up this morning at 6am.

I'm pleased some people can enjoy this but for some of us it's not a matter of being killjoys, over 30 degrees really can be miserable!

This is the best weather of the entire year so I'm just going to enjoy it while it lasts before I go back to moaning about wind, rain, dark and cold. I found it a bit difficult the year I was pregnant in it. I used really strong anti perspirant and baggy clothes.

Running cold water over your pulse points like your wrists is very cooling, someone in the tropics told me to do that because apparently it cools your blood which then circulates around your body. It's also quite practical to do in the office.
Those gel cooling pillow things are great for kids to cuddle to help them sleep if you put them in the fridge.
Also wearing too little clothes makes you hot as your sweaty bits rub together and you get sunburned, the trick is to cover up in loose lightweight things like people from hot countries do. I find it makes me less red and sticky.
