I'm dying with this heat. I work from home. I have my fan on full and lots of cold water but I'm really struggling. I feel ill. Any tips on how to cool down? I can't concentrate on my work and honestly feel like I might pass out!

Put freezer blocks down your bra and between your thighs and anywhere else you can think of

Nooooo, nott between the thighs! You might end up with a frostbitten fanjo. 😱

I've got all the windows and the back door open, and am wearing a big, loose cotton t-shirt and my chub rub knickers. Thankfully, I live near the top of a hill and there's a bit of a breeze, and the front of the house only gets the sun until about 11.

It's quite pleasant.

BloodyHellKen · 11/07/2022 14:07

The same way as I do every summer when it gets this hot:

  • Keep south-facing curtains closed until early evening.
  • Drinks lots of water.
  • Do less moving around/physical stuff.
  • Open some windows at the front and back to get a through breeze. Wear few clothes.
AnnaFF · 11/07/2022 14:09

I've closed all my blinds and curtains and left the fans on for DS & dogs. I nipped home at lunch and the house was quite cool. Unbearable outside.

AffableApple · 11/07/2022 14:10

At 35 weeks pregnant- not well!

(I am not doing any zoom meetings without notice, for sure.)

Sofedupofitall · 11/07/2022 14:11

Sitting in tree garden, in it. Only
for a few mins as don’t have suncream on and wow that’s some heat!!

LadyCatStark · 11/07/2022 14:12

Living up north. It’s just OK here.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 11/07/2022 14:13

Working outside in my garden hoping my legs catch some sun! In London and showing 31 degrees atm. Kinda gutted I have to go in tomorrow, although it does have air con so it's a bonus 😂

Chanel05 · 11/07/2022 13:37

I bought an air con unit for £250 2 years ago. Best money I've ever spent.

Which one do you have? I've been looking at getting one but I don't have a clue what I'm looking for!

PinkStarAtNight · 11/07/2022 14:38

Just heard on radio that its going to get even hotter than this later in the week and they're issuing an amber warning.

Unfortunately I can't afford an air con system but that sounds amazing. Definitely something to think about in future if I ever get a salary increase!

Wipe all exposed skin with a wet wipe and put a fan on you. Not only will it cool you down nice and quick, it will make you feel more refreshed.....or it does me anyway.

Silverswirl · 11/07/2022 14:54

Take a light summer dress.
wet it and then totally wring it out.
put it back on and sit on a towel.
Have the fan pointing at you.

FriedTomatoe · 11/07/2022 14:54

I love the heat. I'm a complete weirdo. Just back from work and planning on a hot run followed by a cold shower. It seems to keep me cool in this weather.

chiffchaffchiff · 11/07/2022 14:56

I'm in the shade in the garden. I have a large can of La Roche-Posay Serozinc I'm spraying frequently and a light loose summer dress. I'd never dress like this in the office but it's perfect for at home.

xogossipgirlxo · 11/07/2022 14:59

I am coping OK. In fact I'm sick of scaremongering on media about heatwave. My sister lives in Berlin and they have to cope with such temperatures for much longer than us. In Yorkshire we have perhaps 2 weeks of summer, so even if my house is hot as the oven, fine by me.

Fairislefandango · 11/07/2022 15:01

It's only 22° here. I might put a cardigan on later Grin

LuckySantangelo35 · 11/07/2022 15:04

It’s really not that hot

it’s just a summers day

get a grip

Passthetena · 11/07/2022 15:05

33 weeks pregnant and coping badly. My poor toddler wants to run and play and I just can't. Even doing the dishwasher has made me melt. We are not as equipped for the heat as other countries and its such a different kind of heat. Give me abroad heat any day!

Some people struggle in heat. Just as some people struggle in cold. No need to be rude about it.

Roselilly36 · 11/07/2022 15:08

Windows open, french doors open, and loving the tiled floors, so cool on my feet. The main rooms I use in the day are tiled, absolutely gorgeous in a heatwave.

Bonjovispjs · 11/07/2022 15:11

I read the best tip on hear last year and that was to run your nightshirt/pyjamas/T-shirt etc under the cold water and wear it wet, it was a game changer, I do it as soon as I get in from work and again before I go to bed, keeps me cool for ages, some people might not like the idea of sitting in wet clothes, but don't knock it till you've tried it, it saves my sanity in my tiny south facing studio heat trap.

Daisy62 · 11/07/2022 15:12

Combo of - large spray bottle filled with water, keep in fridge and spray myself if hot, feet in bowl of cold water at desk, wet cotton bandanas around ankles or neck, take paper fan and tiny spray bottle (from Muji) of water when I’m out.

Umm the average July temperature in London is 23 degrees. I'm just north of there and it's 31 degree right now. It's a heatwave, not just a summers day.

Bagpuss2022 · 11/07/2022 15:25

Hot tub but temp set to 25 in and out and staying in my bikini shocked the postman earlier though

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 11/07/2022 15:26

"Get a grip" - classic Mumsnet! 😂

MintJulia · 11/07/2022 15:35

Kitchen windows open, front door open, through draught. Curtains closed to shield from the sun.
Wearing linen dress and cotton pants, no bra - have turned video camera off because of 'duff broadband' 😊

Drinking cold water with lemon and ice, had fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch (mostly water).

Not doing anything in a hurry 🙂
