To be angry with the other woman in labour ward

I'm due to be induced due to oligohydroamniosis or however you spell it.
I've been at the hospital since Friday. Been waiting around 72 hours
First 24 on a chair in a waiting room.
Not allowed to go home, baby needs to be monitored
Could be worse I could be one of the women in labour waiting on a chair outside
Completely fed up
Woman in the bed next to me is chewing loudly
And has a cold but has no idea about the concept of nose blowing
Am I being unreasonable to be pissed off with her?
Really I should be pissed off with the state of the nhs
I don't mind waiting
I need her to stop making noise
The hospital has capacity for 4 inductions a day
There are 17 of us in a day
Bottleneck is staffing and bed shortages
Neighbouring hospitals full
Local private hospitals also full
Please send help

I asked to go home when I was induced as there wasn’t a bed. I was in for daily monitoring then came home at night waiting for the call for a bed in the labour ward. It was a bit of a mess having to track back and forth but much preferred being in my own bed at night / evening. I was for a high risk induction too so maybe ask if that’s possible?

You absolutely are allowed to go home, you are not a prisoner. Go home, pop back for any essential monitoring, otherwise they can call you when they are ready to proceed.

I was told if I did this I would lose my bed.

I had dd 15 years ago in our reasonably new maternity unit. All single ensuite rooms. Every single one of them. Didn't feed me for 15 hrs day I gave birth but otherwise really couldn't fault them.
The main hospital? Actually sued them for my dad's death or at least tried. They found a loophole.
Really couldn't fault maternity though.

Hope you're out soon.

OP, could you go home with the balloon in? I had a balloon induction in November last year and they let me go home and just pop in every 3-4 hours to check BP/HR etc. I was high risk too so they kept the bed as I was an inpatient induction but the midwives said I would labour quicker at home.

Postnatal and antenatal are just hell. I can’t think of an instance where you need private rooms more.

Keepitrealnomists · 11/07/2022 17:07

I know exactly how your feeling OP, my baby is now 6 weeks old but I was admitted to hospital with pre eclampsia and spent 4 weeks in hospital. Honestly it was hell, I had to stay due to my condition. Post natel ward was horrific, no sleep for 3 day straight. The staff are amazing but work in a broken system.

ShirleyPhallus · 11/07/2022 17:08

Just to say - I know not everyone’s circumstances permit this, but for most hospitals you can ask to pay for a private room if they have them available. If you can afford it it’s worth checking

Poor you. My DCs are young adults now but I still remember my birth experiences so well. Neither were good!
DD - induced on maternity ward - contractions went from 0-100 in 10 seconds after the 3rd pessary. Eventually had emergency c/s the next morning. Thankfully a midwife took pity on me my after the first night and put me in a side room. (you’ll never be in a side room the night after birthing cos they need to keep an eye).
I hated the experience so much (more ante than post) and when it came to DS I went to a different hospital which was actually better as there were only 4 beds in ante and 2 in post after the night on the ward.
The side rooms were so small I declined and said we’d go home and come back the next day for a check up! Also had complications and was in for a week before induction- it was spring, but boiling hot and they moved me to a window. In those days you had to hire a TV and make do w your Nokia brick and gossip mags!

24 hours on a chair in a waiting room?!
Jesus the NHS is a mess.

I know, that was my thought too. Outrageous. But yes the noises too - other people are the worst. Very best of luck OP.

They have worked hard at it and at last the tories have succeeded- the nhs is not functioning now.
it is on its knees. The clinical staff have been shouting about this for years and years but no one knows how bad it is unless they have had to use it.
It is very very sad and don’t know thd answer as to fund it properly would probably bankrupt the country - so many many years of under investment,
So so sorry OP that you are going through this now.

And the parts that were broken before are now horrific.mental health and social care my god it was shambolic before,it's frightening now. And everytimr i see or hear those prgrammes that always cosily say " dont suffer ,ask for help" I want to scream. No don't ! There is no help,or the shirshow of itit will kill you.😞

Just reading this in an ambulance. My 92 year old mum fell at 2 pm yesterday. Ambulance arrived at 10 pm. She was outside, on concrete in the heat and couldn't be moved. It's just gone 6 am and are still in an ambulance queue. The NHS is not fit for purpose.

justasmalltownmum · 12/07/2022 06:17

My Dsil was induced on Friday but not given a drip until Monday. By that point she had already been contracting for 30 hours.

MassiveSalad22 · 12/07/2022 06:20

What the hell. That is horrific and I would absolutely go mad and panic if I had to wait on a chair for 24 hours. I’m so sorry OP what a shit show.

As a nurse working in the NHS I can only say how very very sorry we are that this is happening. Your poor mum - I hope she is okay.
