Does your DC primary school allow squash through a hot day?

Sent my DC with a non- see through bottle with juice in today as since weaning and trying - DC has never drank plain water. Teacher removed the bottle stating water only in the day which will be provided with their own water bottles from school and juice only at lunch time.

AIBU or should this rule be relaxed during heatwaves?

What constitutes a qualified person? Because my dentist asks whether I drink fruit juice every time I go for a check up and hates the fact that I do. But I’ll be sure to tell him that UWhatNow knows better…

Is your dentist asking about sugar free dilute squash or highly acidic fruit juice full of natural sugars though? Fruit juice is not great for teeth, diluted squash (which tends to be sugar free and not cordial which usually has loads of sugar) especially if it is weak - isn't anywhere near as bad.

For example: where I work we are not technically allowed to sell the britvic cordials to children because they are so high in sugar, we have Robinsons sugar free squash for children (or adults who prefer it) or of course fruit juice. So it really does depend what someone means means when they say juice because it all seems to be used interchangeably.

My youngests dentist knows all he drinks is dilute squash, she doesn't make a big deal about it, but then he goes to a specialist dentist who deals with children with disabilities

Of course there are children with additional needs who struggle with plain water, however there are lots for whom it's preference. My DNs 'don't drink water' they drink squash and fizzy drinks at home (3 & 6) they drink water at my house because that's what is offered and that's what DS drinks they've never refused. I always keep water in the fridge so it's nice and cold, they also see me and my husband drinking water whereas SIL and DB don't drink water only fizzy drinks or tea/coffee. We also always have a hug of water on the table at meal times and they like being able to pour themselves some.

What about milk? At DD's school you can sign up for daily milk.

I think lots of people use juice and squash interchangeably even though they are two completely different things!

Maybe calling it ‘juice’ makes it feel more healthy? 🤷‍♀️

No, ‘squash’ is an English thing, as far as I’m aware.

My dentist is asking about fruit juice - but UWhatNow was saying that ‘juice is bad for teeth’ is hysteria and only said by unqualified people and is no worse for teeth than an apple so I was responding to that. No idea what my dentist thinks about squash.
