Dated June 2020? The lid doesn’t bounce in the middle.

No way.

rainbowunicorn · 10/07/2022 11:24

it will be fine

Chouetted · 10/07/2022 11:25

It's likely to be fine. Glass isn't porous like plastic.

Unstoffe · 10/07/2022 11:25

Sniff it, general inspection, if it looks fine do it, especially if it’s been sealed.

LoudingVoice · 10/07/2022 11:26

I’d give it a sniff/quick taste, is it the best before date or use by?

If it’s best before it’ll be fine, might’ve lost a bit of taste.

InChocolateWeTrust · 10/07/2022 11:26

What's in the jar? Preserved food can keep a really long time.

OhLordyWhatNow · 10/07/2022 11:26

It will be fine.

CourtneeLuv · 10/07/2022 11:26

The date will probably be a best before, not a use by date. I'd use it if ut smelled and tasted ok.

User952539 · 10/07/2022 11:27

Completely fine, particularly if it’s a vinegary one like a Chinese stir fry sauce or an acidic one like Bolognese.

be a bit more careful with milk based

liveforsummer · 10/07/2022 11:29

It's best before date, or will be fine as long as it tastes ok. That's all that will happen is the quality light deteriorate. Or won't become dangerous in anyway. I recently ate spaghetti hoops with a similar date (I think a few months earlier even). They tasted a tiny bit tinny but otherwise fine.

DockOTheBay · 10/07/2022 12:04

Something with milk or meat in, I probably wouldn't e.g. carbonara sauce.

If it's just vegetables and seasoning/vinegar like tomato pasta sauce or sweet and sour, I would go for it if it smells and tastes ok.

Harridance · 10/07/2022 12:20

Hell yeah

AdoraBell · 10/07/2022 12:28

For me it would be okay if it smells good, looks right and has no diary or meat ingredients.

ThreeLittleDots · 10/07/2022 12:30

Use by or best before? I 'd not want to risk being ill over a £1 jar of sauce

DenholmElliot1 · 10/07/2022 12:31

This sort of post is exactly why I never eat in other peoples houses!

ThreeLittleDots · 10/07/2022 12:32

Was once horrendously ill for days after eating a veggie burger that had been in the freezer for 6mo too long. It smelt and tasted fine.

ManateeFair · 10/07/2022 12:33

Yeah, it’ll be fine

HannahSternDefoe · 10/07/2022 12:33

I've just finished some jam dated Dec 2019 (well, 3 days ago) and I'm still alive Grin

Daftasabroom · 10/07/2022 12:38

If the lid doesn't pop/bounce it has opened at some point.

TheKeatingFive · 10/07/2022 12:38

A jarred sauce will be fine.

Helpyou · 10/07/2022 12:39

Absolutely not. If you want to risk it please do but don't feed it to your kids or people unknowingly.

TheKeatingFive · 10/07/2022 12:40

I wonder how much food waste comes down to people being slaves to BB dates?

Scoobyblue · 10/07/2022 12:40

It’ll be fine

chilledbubble · 10/07/2022 12:40

What is the sauce?

More of an issue is not understanding bb dates.
