I. currently in hospital with a rather embarrassing problem.

I woke this morning and felt a really sharp pain in my right thigh. Then it went numb. Then earlier I went to the toilet and realised I'd wet myself. I didn't even feel it. So 111 sent me to A and E. So now I'm waiting on the A and E doctor but it's still a 4 and a half hour wait to be seen

So while I'm waiting I'd love to read your tales of woo.

@Sunshineboo @NHSWoo people are still here! (Or are you?!) hahah
Okay I'll start at the beginning I suppose, first experience I was 2 years old. That day us actually my first memories. My mother and I lived house, she'd done a council exchange and typically (for the time) when we got to the house there were hardly any lightbulbs and no hot water.

After moving everything in my mum asked me to go upstairs and get dressed while she boiled me some water for a bath. I remember (as does my mother) going up the stairs on all fours (typical toddler) turning to go round the corner onto the landing and looking up and stopping dead and shouting 'mammy, who are these men?'

My mum stood at the bottom of the stairs looks up and shouts 'what men? Not any men living here' and I turn to look at her and point to the landing and say 'there... 3 men' and I look back to the landing and they've vanished. . One shorter rotund man and 2 thinner ones. All dressed in what I described as 'big but small trousers'. Which when I later went to middle school I recognised as Tudor attire. Never saw them again. Wasn't a Tudor house either but a post World War One terrace

Really should proof read !! *we moved house

Great thread, I'm glad they've got to the bottom of what's up OP and you're on the way home.

My own woo stories are very dull, but does anyone remember the thread on here a while back, of the person working in a hospital and had to pop to an old empty wing for records and kept seeing a nurse who wasn't there? I was wondering what happened.

BrokenToy · 10/07/2022 17:48

Thirty odd years ago my mum sadly had a stillbirth, I was around 12. She named him a family name that’s been used for generations, and coincidentally was the name of both my grandfathers.

When I had my youngest we’d chosen the name as a middle name, but when he was born his first name really didn’t feel right so with my parent’s blessing we swapped them around.

When he was a couple of months old I was having a wobble about whether they were really ok with it or whether it was awful of me. Literally while I had this thought I was rearranging a bookshelf…out fell one of the very faded Polaroids of my brother that the midwives had taken. I had no idea I even had one.

I took it as a blessing. It was the oddest thing.

BrokenToy · 10/07/2022 17:49

(I’ll have to name change now because EVERYONE in my family knows this).

Always reminds me of the poem 'Antigonish' when I hear things like this

That's so eerie, I bet your mum was horrified when you asked her who the men were 😬 did you have any other experiences living there?

We moved to a house where there was a real odd feeling of being watched. Hand-prints would appear on the feature wall, like kids had pressed sticky hands on there. There was a narrow corridor running from the bedroom to the bathroom and it often felt like someone was directly behind you as you walked down it at night. Once I came upstairs and a pile of change had been stacked up on top of the drawers. The dog kept getting locked in the under-stairs cupboard some how, and sometimes my husband would wake up saying the cat smelled so bad it woke him. But the cat wasnt there.

One night he had a night terror (total one off). I woke to find him kind of screaming but like he was part paralysed etc. It was scary. He said he woke up and saw a demon thing standing looking out the window. It saw he was looking and said it was going to come after him. He said 'don't even try it; and it replied 'fine, then I'll go after her' and pointed at me.

Shortly after I had what I now call a breakdown, where I felt I was being possessed. It was the worst experience of my life, I felt like my soul was in Hell. Eventually sorted by antidepressants and lots of positive visualisation of protective light etc.

I'll never know what happened to make me feel like that. My husband didn't tell me the part about what the demon said, until years after I'd recovered. I still sleep with a light on.

That's absolutely terrifying, I'm not sure I could sleep again 😱

Please share your stories, all of them. I'm really interested to hear! 😊

I was just going to ask the same thing when I had finished reading them all 😊

pogostickplastique · 10/07/2022 18:18

@NHSWoo she wasn't impressed. Newly separated and moving home as a newly single parent - deffo wasn't what she needed to hear. I can't remember any more specific ones from that house we moved a fee years later. However I do remember my mum being pregnant with my brother and me getting up one morning and saying to her 'you're going to have your baby today- I'll see it after school - better not actually be a boy'

She had a baby boy at lunchtime - I was furious 😂 - we picked her up from hospital straight after school

PersilPower · 10/07/2022 18:34

Many years ago I worked for a local council…. A London overspill town. I was working “late” though in reality only about 6.30, finishing a document with a colleague. I was 25, I had a life to lead! The building I was in, two floors up was probably about 20 years old at the time. We were both sat facing one computer.

Out of the corner of my eye, stood to one side, I spotted someone stood next to me. As they were so close, all I could see was a white buttoned up shirt and in my eyeline, as they were so close, literally just the torso. Because of the clothing I felt it was a man. As I thought they’d snuck quietly up on us, I quickly looked fully to my side to see ….. nothing. Asked my colleague if she saw it and without hesitation she said yes. Freaked us right out!

i can’t rationally explain what I saw. It’s always bothered me, not scared me, just bothered me in a confused way. This town wouldn’t be your first choice of spooky town, although I think the site of the town hall has historical links. If anyone has any ideas, I’d welcome them!

NHSWoo · 10/07/2022 18:56

@pogostickplastique I bet she wasn't impressed haha, bless her. I bet you weren't either 😂

Wow that's weird, I bet you were really freaking your mum out with the things you were coming out with at the time. Kids can come out with some spooky things.

theremustonlybeone · 10/07/2022 19:01

I was living in an old army nursing home and it always felt spooky, I was in my room and the doors were heavy and you would hear if anyone was coming in or out and I was poked in my back in room, I laughed as I assumed it was a friend and I turned round and my door was shut and no one was their. In the same place I went to the toilet and there was a heavy door that was wedged open and sinks then another little door to the toilet. I went to pee and I heard the outer door slam shut and I jumped. When l opened to the door it was still wedged open.
that place freaked me out

Theyve still no idea whats wrong.

They're just arguing over which neurosurgeon is best for me to be referred to.

My mums fine with the kids, she's going to get them all sorted. She's even cleaning out the pet mouse, Julius Cheezer for me and she hates mice.

@HerRoyalHappiness May I compliment you on your genius name choice! I hope your children's name are equally superb 😄

How are you doing? It must be pretty frightening x

That's the bloke taking the photo, surely?

EnjoythemoneyJane · 10/07/2022 19:49

Some old family friends were staying for a week in a beautiful coaching inn - centuries old, beams, sloping floors, etc - all the ghosty cliches! The first night the wife dreamt someone was standing leaning over her in the bed, a really angry man, and woke up terrified. Same thing happened the second night, except she opened her eyes and actually saw him for a split second, leaning right over her - she said he looked like someone from the 17th century, longish hair and ye olde clothes, but the thing that frightened her was that he emanated such rage.

She stayed awake the rest of the night and next day day said to her husband (extremely practical, non-woo man) she wouldn’t stay another night in the room. To her surprise he agreed immediately and confessed that each morning he’d woken up to see an old woman dressed in black sitting looking at him from the chair in the corner of the room, but he hadn’t said anything for fear of seeming barmy or frightening his wife.

When they went to reception to request a room change, the staff agreed to move their stuff immediately and didn’t even ask what the problem was, which seemed to indicate it was probably a pretty regular occurrence!

007DoubleOSeven · 10/07/2022 20:05

@EnjoythemoneyJane can you find out which coaching Inn? I want to go!

Also op just seen your home now, which I'm glad about. Hope you're doing ok

HerRoyalHappiness · 10/07/2022 22:14

I'm home. Mum bought mcdonalds.

Now I'll tell you all my spooky tale.

In my dad's flat he had 3 figurines that were motion activated and spoke. He had captain Jack sparrow, pin head and Freddie kruger.
Whenever we made too much noise in the flat, Freddie Kruger would literally fly off the sideboard, across the room and land in the living room doorway. It happened numerous times and only when the noise level seemed to rise a bit.
Clearly the ghost in my dad's flat just wants a bit of peace and quiet in the after life.

Ooh a ghost throwing money! I could do with one of those

My nana would turn in her grave if she saw what we are paying for gas and electricity. She would chuck me a few quid towards it from the afterlife for sure.

pogostickplastique · 11/07/2022 00:53

@NHSWoo this is a long one so strap in and grab a biscuit, years later as a fully grown (😂) 21 year old I was working at a well known holiday resort in their security department when one night I got a message to attend the caravan park as a lady in caravan 22 had reported a woman screaming for her life.
People have a tendency to be dramatic on holiday but off I toddle and get there to find ....
Nothing. Caravan 22 is locked up and dark. I report this back and then have a toddle round the rest of the area incase people can't read numbers 😂 and find .. no one. Then controller calls me on the radio and says this woman is back on the phone and can still hear screaming. I can't hear anything except silence. I wander back to caravan 22 with control telling me this woman is stood outside her caravan looking for me and relay back that I am indeed still staring at an empty caravan and hear no screaming.

Then as I give it up as a hoax and turn round - all the street lamps go out. I weirdly don't immediately freak but just radio control and state sarcastically that if they'd like me to chase wild geese could they at least put 50p in the meter.

Then they all came back on - except the one right above me. Meh.. I shrugged and headed back to base. Then I noticed it was continuing... every time I got under a light it would go off.

I got back to base and causally questioned it and just put it down to a weird coincidence - until I was in bed that night wrapped up in my extra thick duvet when something ran an ice cold hand up my leg.

I laid there frozen in terror and eventually fell asleep. Waking up with sleep paralysis later on.

After that it got worse and I felt like I was being terrorised. It was constantly dark no matter the weather or how much I cleaned the windows. Always cold and I couldn't sleep in there if it was dark so I avoided all early finishes on my night shifts and wouldn't shower there i showered at my neighbours. In the end I was sat on gate duty one night reading a book when someone I had never met before stopped by for a chat - then out of nowhere asked if I ever get the feeling I'm being watched. I laughed and said 'more than you'd know' and he replied 'well there's an extremely angry and evil man following you around' 😱

I went home on leave the following week as I had barely slept in weeks and was an emotional wreck. When my big boss heard of my suddenly taking leave so close to end of season he asked if everything was ok. I sheepishly told him I thought I was going mad and told the story. He just looked at me understandingly and said 'ahhh he followed YOU home this time did he?' Turns out many people have reported the screams - it's his way of luring you out and if you accidentally meet him - he follows you home to terrorise you'

That day I went back to my accom - packed my stuff and shouted 'this is my home and when I get back you better be gone' and I walked out and slammed the door.

When I came back a week later it was bright again - never heard another peep ... from him anyway

EnjoythemoneyJane · 11/07/2022 07:54

@007DoubleOSeven sorry, I don’t know the name of it. IIRC it was somewhere near Rye, but this happened about 30 years ago and both family friends are now sadly gone. It’d be the last place I’d want to stay though - I don’t think they had a very relaxing holiday!

Omg that's terrifying lol 😳 sounds like some kind of demon the way the woman shapeshifted into a man. I bet the person on the phone to you was really confused why they heard screaming and you couldn't. Did many residents complain of any paranormal activity at the resort or was it mostly staff? The thing grabbing your leg sounds terrifying 😩

pogostickplastique · 11/07/2022 08:39

@NHSWoo I never saw a woman. Maybe one called who actually could hear screaming I don't know. Maybe it was all him. I have no idea
