I’m not interested in politics or BJ, but really…is there anyone that could do any better?

The late, great Douglas Adams got it exactly right with this quote from The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy:

“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

Almost anyone?

Another on here bemoaning the loss of Rory "Nice For a Tory".

There are likely a good few up and comers that could make a decent job of it but they're all probably a bit too wet behind the ears yet - you want someone who has held one of the more senior cabinet/shadow cabinet positions if you can, just so that they know how the system works.

Kemi Badenoch is one for the future perhaps.

Problem with that is that by definition anybody who has held a cabinet position in the last 6 years is unfit for office.

There certainly are much worse than Boris, depressingly.
Better - Penny Mordaunt perhaps?

🤣🤣🤣

Exactly this.

Why are people assuming that Larry is a Tory?

Why are people assuming that Larry is a Tory?

I believe he is an independent.

AmaryIlis · 07/07/2022 16:10

The question is more, could anyone be worse? At this point, all I want is a competent and honest Prime Minister. Boris is neither.

Ilovesriracha · 07/07/2022 16:10

All cats are tory, as much as I adore them. They look after themselves.

Dogs are definitely Labour, if you are happy so are they, no I don't have dogs.

Rory Stewart, Ruth Davidson and Ken Clarke are the only conservatives I have ever admired.

What a shit show but they will still win again.

Rabbitholedigger · 07/07/2022 16:14

Ben Wallace

God, not Mordaunt. Right wing and pretty divisive.

Despite the ridiculous belief they e tried to get us to believe - it's Johnson or Starmer.

Yes of course there is.

And if there really isn't anyone of the 350 MPs who could do a better job then I really don't think they have a keg to stand on re dissing the opposition either.

A book of nylon carpet samples

Half a pint of bin juice

A haggis in a suit

cigiwi · 07/07/2022 17:14

Several people have suggested Rory Stewart. Seems a nice sort of cove for a Tory.

... But, well, where did he go to school? And so what?

I have lived a life, which, for good or ill, brought me into contact with lots of the products of the, erh, expensive end of the English private school system, professionally and to some extent personally, socially, emotionally ...

There are certain attributes, I have found, shared by the alumni of the different schools. This is not a novel thought, by any means. Here's an old joke:
A Wykehamist, a Harrovian and an Etonian are at a party when a woman enters the room. The Wykehamist offers her a chair; the Harrovian fetches one; the Etonian sits in it.

-Be that as it may. In my experience - fairly broad, as I have said - you might have a good time with an Etonian; he will often be charming; but you certainly could never trust him as far as you can spit.

All Etonians? Maybe not. But a good rule of thumb all the same.

Sorry, Rory.

D0lphine · 07/07/2022 17:20

A garlic bread on a plate would be better than that nob.

VickyEadieofThigh · 07/07/2022 17:24

WildImaginings · 07/07/2022 12:42

Pretty much anybody is better than THAT.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I have no idea why this notion - that they've been pushing for some time - gained any traction at all. LOADS of currently serving Tory MPs could do a better job than that lazy, amoral, dishonourable, lying twat.

Butterflytattoo · 07/07/2022 17:25

Literally anyone.
Except maybe Priti Patel, Grant Shapps or Suella Braverman.

CaveMum · 07/07/2022 17:53

Ben Wallace being heavily backed on the exchanges

Boris Johnson- IS there anyone better?
the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 17:59

Ben Wallace has a bad voting record.
Even Tory voting dh said ' hope it's not him' !
(Mind you , he is upset that that BJ has gone )

OneFrenchEgg · 07/07/2022 18:04

I can't stand Rory Stewart. He's cornered the market in the worthy, virtuous, principled guy act.
I'd be on with Tobias Elwood, Tom T, Ben Wallace but he's best left where he is doing a decent job at the moment to avoid a complete muppet getting that role.

Nads1611 · 07/07/2022 18:04

Anything is better then a lying racist, islamphobic, sexist, classist knob tbh

beautyisthefaceisee · 07/07/2022 19:02

Scottish here.

Thank god for Nicola.

Boris' departure will just leave room for the Tories to do as they want and blame Boris for any mess.

Sorry, Rory.

You're not far wrong, as somebody from a lower middle class West of Scotland upbringing.

I've also never met a Harrovian I didn't like... Etonians are a different story.

She's no better than Boris, don't start thinking we are better off up here. We aren't. Realistically all the parties are shit. We need a restart on politics, no allowing 'mates' to get deals, no abusers, no one with a criminal record, no one power hungry, people with intelligence etc. Basically eliminates everyone currently in politics..

EverySockIsOdd · 08/07/2022 02:48

I met a Harrovian at Oxford interviews who moaned constantly about how it was a shit school and his parents had let him down by sending him there.

A rant directed at someone who went to one of the worst comprehensive schools in the country.

He didn't get in.
