I’m not interested in politics or BJ, but really…is there anyone that could do any better?

OP posts:

Larry the cat.

Shinyandnew1 · 07/07/2022 12:54

Anyone would be better, except Dorries, Patel, Raab and Truss!

Shame Rory left-he was good.

YES THIS! Anyoone apart from these four BJ stooges (or nodding dogs as KS says)

balalake · 07/07/2022 14:20

About 90% of the country I'd say. At least 100 Tory MPs.

Mr Johnson is the worst Prime Minister ever. A man who does not take sexual assault seriously.

WatchoRulo · 07/07/2022 14:17

Why are people with "no intertest in politics" always Tories?

Because if they had an interest, they'd know the Tories are shite.

I vote for my horse to be the new leader. His shit would produce better ideas than the lot of them combined.

CaveMum · 07/07/2022 14:28

Another on here bemoaning the loss of Rory "Nice For a Tory".

There are likely a good few up and comers that could make a decent job of it but they're all probably a bit too wet behind the ears yet - you want someone who has held one of the more senior cabinet/shadow cabinet positions if you can, just so that they know how the system works.

Kemi Badenoch is one for the future perhaps.

DorritLittle · 07/07/2022 14:29

How could anyone be worse than Boris? But yes, I'd rule out half his chosen cabinet as a starting point. And Gove. There are decent Tory MPs though. (I do not vote Tory).

maddy68 · 07/07/2022 14:30

Literally anyone .

TyrianBannister · 07/07/2022 14:31

This old chestnut.

Of course there is. Literally everyone in the cabinet with a few exceptions.

I don’t agree with them politically but they’re clearly preferable to Boris and would do a better job.

Lesserspottedmama · 07/07/2022 14:32

There certainly are much worse than Boris, depressingly.
Better - Penny Mordaunt perhaps?

AdamRyan · 07/07/2022 14:33

I think Nadine Dorries is the only person who is less suited to the PM job than Johnson.
Literally could not care less who the new leader is. I don't like the Brexit/"Make Britain Great Again" rubbish from the conservatives anyway, but any of them are better than a lying psychopath who is most concerned with his own fantasies of world domination.

Anothernamechangeplease · 07/07/2022 14:33

Hmm, let's see. Boris is utterly incompetent, narcissistic, and a serial liar with absolutely no moral compass whatsoever. He presented an "oven-ready" Brexit deal to the country that turned out not to be ready after all, and he hasn't been able to sort out the mess that he created. He presided over thousands of unnecessary deaths at the start of the pandemic due to a series of bad decisions. He is not interested in the detail of running the country but only in the status and power that the PM role affords him. He believes that he is above the law, and was fined for breaking the rules that he himself introduced. He surrounds himself with incompetent sycophants and fails to hold h
his team accountable for bullying, sexual misconduct, financial misconduct etc. Instead of making them face the consequences of their actions, he just tries to change the rules. He cheated on his former wife when she had cancer. He tried to abuse his position to get his current wife a job. He did abuse his position to give business opportunities to one of his former mistresses. He doesn't know how many children he has. His motivation is pure self interest and he doesn't care about anyone else.

Might we be able to find anyone better than that to lead our country, I wonder?

I fucking hope so!

KrisAkabusi · 07/07/2022 12:40

Literally anyone.

Except maybe Truss and Dorries.

And Rees Mogg.

CaveMum · 07/07/2022 14:54

😂

Boris Johnson- IS there anyone better?

Blossomtoes · 07/07/2022 14:35

And Rees Mogg.

See, they’re terrible options normally, yes. But IMO, still better than Boris.

UrricanesArdlyHeverAppen · 07/07/2022 15:02

I’m not convinced any of them would be better. We all knew where we were with Boris. If he did anything positive to help people, we all knew that it was to distract us from something terrible he’d done. He’s been buggering things up for decades and we all knew that if his mouth was moving, he was probably telling a lie.

But the others are all claiming that they couldn’t continue to serve his government because he was such a terrible leader that their consciences wouldn’t allow them to? It’s all a load of bollocks. Boris has been doing shitty things forever. Where were their consciences when he was going for leadership? Where were their consciences when his wealthy mates were getting PPE contracts? Where were their consciences when he was doing all of the other shitty things he did? They’re no better than he is. The best you can say is that they might not be any worse than Boris.

Dotjones · 07/07/2022 15:09

I can think of about 649 MPs who would be just as dishonest, corrupt and useless as Boris Johnson. No competent, honest person can become an MP.

NarrationNation · 07/07/2022 15:10

My 10 year could do better. She certainly has more integrity…

bobbythevet · 07/07/2022 15:11

Not only are there better people, there are better objects. DC's nappy, for example, could do a better job and is probably less wet and full of shit.

UnaOfStormhold · 07/07/2022 15:14

It's a desperately low bar but surprisingly few of the current party seem capable of clearing it.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 07/07/2022 15:18

The conservative party has around 200,000 members. I'm sure the can find one or two with a shred of integrity.

BobbieWaterbury · 07/07/2022 15:22

I’m not a Tory but I would opt for Tom Tugendhat.

BobbieWaterbury · 07/07/2022 15:25

Oh and if he could come back, Ken Clarke. Incidentally, his twitter feee for the last couple of days is hilarious.

Penguintears · 07/07/2022 15:28

Rory Stewart or Ruth Davidson would get my vote but sadly it won't happen.

I don't think it would need to be a Brexiteer now that Brexit is "done" so Tom T could well put his hat in the ring.

Abhannmor · 07/07/2022 15:36

Hunt is often spoken of a a centrist Tory. And he wants to sell off the NHS. Pick the bones from that.

EverySockIsOdd · 07/07/2022 15:41

TheFeistyFeminist · 07/07/2022 13:10

Boris surrounded himself with "Yes, Sir" types who are unfit for the top job. There must surely be competent leaders coming up the ranks, still on the back benches, but they won't get the job because they don't have the profile.

Mind you I'm hardly thrilled with any of the choices in any of the main parties. My interests are not well represented by any of them. The prospect of a general election in the current state of things is pretty depressing, keeping the Tories is pretty depressing.

Where do we go from here?

Total overhaul of the electoral system. A proper constitution, PR, a fresh start.
