Xenophobia? I didn't say anything xenophobic. I don't dislike the poster because she is french, but because she is condescending and rude as fuck.

You told an immigrant to go back home. Try to back track all you like, but it’s still up there for everyone to see.

We have words for people like you.

cottagegardenflower · 06/07/2022 19:28

@FemmeNatal Stop showing off!

justasking111 · 06/07/2022 19:28

I recognise the elderly, poor, sick will suffer more this is something I saw in the 70's my grandparents told us about in the thirties. I remember power cuts nationwide, people buying dented tins or tins without labels, bacon scraps off the bacon slicer. Broken biscuits.

One big difference is that during the power cuts you could still work a till with a handle you turned on the side. The cashier in the bank could still count money out with the help of candlelight. You could still get around on a bus. This time around cash won't be as useful

HRTQueen · 06/07/2022 19:29

We will go through a very difficult few years

this is the cycle of our economy abs has been for years there are other added factors but agin this has happened before

there is a huge amount of money floating around the UK we have infrastructure we have banking systems it isn’t suddenly going to disappear

Catfordthefifth · 06/07/2022 19:29

FemmeNatal · 06/07/2022 19:27

No, thanks, but thanks for showing that we do still have some anti-immigrant people posting on here.

It’s a shame how people like you get angry at others moving here and actually doing well.

You probably think we should stick to cleaning your house, or sweeping your street, but no, that’s not how it works.

I'm not anti immigrant. Nor have I said a word about your occupation. I frankly couldn't give less of a shit about how well you're doing. Its not about you. Its about those who are struggling.

Don't lie about what I have said, please.

No I didn't?

I said feel free to leave (considering she was so disgusted by me but because I'm English that's okay is it)

I didn't say "go home" did I?

Oh that's right! I didn't.

Yes we have it a lot better than many, but the 'glory days' of the nineties and early 2000's are gone for good. Life is and will continue to be markedly tougher for most of us.

I agree. The 90s and 00s (even early 10s) felt hopeful and positive. Thing feel very, very different bow.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/07/2022 19:31

I love when people quote quotes of quotes of quotes of quotes. So readable.

Bnp like that's frankly hilarious.

You're not stupid, just rude and condescending. Does that clarify it?

Thats completely disingenuous and you know it. You made a jibe that you didnt want people like that poster in the country you live in, what does that make you then?

And you didnt answer the previous question (because people like you never answer this question) - whats the solution for care workers, bar staff, supermarket workers, support staff, road sweepers - basically anyone in a useful job that society needs but which only pays minimum wage. Are they all to up and leave their jobs to qualify as doctors and lawyers and plumbers?

Who does those jobs then, who wheels you round in hospital if you attend having broken your leg,, no porters available they all left to qualify as surgeons.

Catfordthefifth · 06/07/2022 19:32

FemmeNatal · 06/07/2022 19:30

You told me to go back home. You should be ashamed.

No, I didnt. You made a horrible comment to me. Perhaps consider being ashamed about your own actions ie having a complete lack of empathy for anyone struggling.

Catfordthefifth · 06/07/2022 19:33

No, I did neither of those things @FemmeNatal

You've still not answered any of my questions.

Badger1970 · 06/07/2022 19:36

OMG can people tag the person they're answering instead of spamming the thread with 50 quoted posts Angry

There are always booms and recessions, and throwing billions of £s at a global pandemic that we didn't have was never going to end well. We'll come out the other side........ eventually.

Can I just say I prefer it!

I cant follow threads when people just put a paragraph that another poster has written and answer it, I dont know what or who or when they are referring to.

Blublu · 06/07/2022 19:38

justfiveminutes · 06/07/2022 18:14

When you are quite old, you have seen lots of recessions, armed conflicts and dire predictions. Those times always pass, just like the good times do too. We are in for a rough ride in terms of the economy, but will come out the other side.

Not global warming though.

FortonServices · 06/07/2022 19:38

@Catfordthefifth

I'm all for debate but telling an immigrant that they are free to leave if they dare criticise their adopted country is straight out of Xenophobia 101.

Whatever people think was the 'glory days' was propped up by unrealistically low interest rates and all other manner of things that could never have lasted.

We need to get away from this idea that life owes us anything in the UK. We're not 'owed' year on year house price increases, or foreign holidays, or multiple car ownership. People could afford those because interest rates on borrowing were low, which also meant comically easy to obtain PCP deals on cars, and lots of money to borrow for housing.

If you're genuinely struggling with food vs heating then this post is not for you - this is a horrendous time.

But for those people lamenting "life as we once knew it", go and enjoy your holiday photos and consider whether both your 17 year old son and 19 year old daughter each need cars to drive, or whether you overstretched yourself on your mortgage. We've been propped up and insulated for years from reality.

Well said.....defining the consumer's charter.
