To really want a tub of Lurpack

All this talk of Lurpack and I have never had it is making me want to try it now.

What one is best normal, spreadable light or unsalted?

It's £4 for 500g tub in Tesco and Sainsburys so going to treat myself

You're being a bit literal Femme. Anaemic also means bland.

Sorry, English is not my first language.

Butter is supposed to be bland, it’s not designed to have a strong flavour.

LizzieSiddal · 06/07/2022 18:25

I saw Lurkpak on offer in Waitrose today, along with Heinz baked beans and soups, which I’ve seen several threads about on MN.

Personally I buy any British butter as I like to support the British farmer.

knittingaddict · 06/07/2022 18:26

And your point is? The addition of lactic butter does not make it not butter or fake.

Lurpak is minging. Anyone who spends the best part of a tenner on spreadable butter is a fool. Buy real butter with chunky salt crystals in!

No fool here. Just don't like the same as you. I think salt is 'minging' full stop - I don't go calling people who do like salt 'fools' though Sad

summerdrinktime · 06/07/2022 18:28

Buy some Kerrygold too and compare the taste. You won't go bak to Lurpak as it tastes completely artificial compared to Kerrygold.

knittingaddict · 06/07/2022 18:32

I think the multiple quotes have confused me now. Basically some people have obviously experienced the spreadable Lurpak and some know the original butter butter. That is where the confusion is setting in. Neither are the best butter out there, but the real butter version is much nicer. I agree, if op buys a tub it will definitely be the added oil one.

SpartacusNotEsther · 06/07/2022 18:35

I only buy butter from a yak that feeds solely on hop asparagus and pink lettuce, and has had three hours of reiki healing prior to milking. Nothing else comes close.

OrlandointheWilderness · 06/07/2022 18:38

Vile stuff

Hmm, it used to be good but I think they put too much oil in the spreadable one and it tastes greasy to me now.
I prefer Presedente French butter but even Aldi's Nordpak is better than Lurpak these days (IMO).

President spreadable is amazing butter. I used to buy President for me and give the kids Lurpak.
President is now cheaper than Lurpak so we all have it!

Again, what am I missing here? Lurpak is butter. It only has salt added, nothing else.

I can’t understand what people think it is.

People are talking about the spreadable version which is butter and oil.

floweringpoppies · 06/07/2022 18:42

I never buy lurpak but it's £4 in Tesco so am tempted 🤣. We just have real butter and keep it out of the fridge.

RandomDane · 06/07/2022 18:43

Fun fact from a random Dane. The spreadable would not be allowed the label Lurpak in Denmark. Lurpak over there is a an industry quality standard guarateeing pure butter (with or without salt). It's ok if you don't all like it. We can take it 😀

CheeseandBeetrootSandwiches · 06/07/2022 18:45

Everyday we have the Flora that reduces your cholesterol (because we need it) but for a naughty treat we get British posh slightly salted butter from Sainsburys. Lurpak is rank.

nerrvouss · 06/07/2022 18:47

I prefer this, kept in a butter dish not in the fridge. It's very tasty.

I’m really not that keen on Lurpak, I prefer the more yellow butters like Anchor or Country Life. I’ve made butter myself a couple of times and it was very similar to Lurpak.

chiffchaffchiff · 06/07/2022 18:51

I bought the salted version once years ago because I didn't want to buy a massive tub of margarine. It didn't really taste of anything and when I opened it a couple of weeks after last using, it had green mould. I've never had margarine or butter go mouldy before. Sainsburys salted butter is my now usual but when I'm feeling fancy I go for the expensive versions with sea salt flakes (so delicious on a fresh loaf).

mrsmoppp · 06/07/2022 17:40

Even the Aldi version is getting more expensive every week, I'm sure it's close to £2:10 a tub now

I noticed that this week. I don't get through a lot of butter but it used to be £1.79 and is now £2.10. Shocking!

Musmerian · 06/07/2022 18:53

Davros · 06/07/2022 17:40

Exactly. There's so much better butter easily available and from Britain

A matter of taste- I really don’t like Anchor/Kerrygold and those very yellow butters. I prefer a paler one like Lurpak/ President. Then non spreadable Lurpak is proper butter.

Davros · 06/07/2022 18:54

Meh, Kerrygold is nothing special either and in Britain we should be buying British!
Président is nice but see above.

rnsaslkih · 06/07/2022 18:55

Who is going to buy it at £10 a tub? Even if you have the money, that is obscene! I just buy a normal block of salted butter.

it's the 1kg tub, so four blocks.

SunnyNights · 06/07/2022 18:58

Lurpack is awful.

Years ago I was in a supermarket with my husband and walked away to get something, came back and said 'urgh why have you bought Lurpack!', then realised it wasn't our trolley and I'd just insulted some random stranger's butter choices Blush

rnsaslkih · 06/07/2022 18:59

They might have to not sell it in 1kg packs to get the price down

Partypoooooper · 06/07/2022 19:00

It's all about country life!!
