To really want a tub of Lurpack

waheymouth · 06/07/2022 17:28

All this talk of Lurpack and I have never had it is making me want to try it now.

What one is best normal, spreadable light or unsalted?

It's £4 for 500g tub in Tesco and Sainsburys so going to treat myself

OP posts:

It’s butter mixed with oil. Just buy real butter.

Lurpak butter (without oil) has been around for decades. Read the pack. I'm not saying it's great butter, but it is definitely butter.

tillytoodles1 · 06/07/2022 18:12

Lurpak spreadable is the only butter I like, but I live by myself so a tub lasts me ages.

No it’s not, it’s a block of pure butter, with a bit of salt added.

Are you sure you aren’t confused, and thinking of the spreadable?

InChocolateWeTrust · 06/07/2022 18:12

Lurpak is lactic butter. Most butter in the uk isnt.

You either like that or you dont, I love it and so never quite like most of the other brands in the supermarket.

That's spreadable version. Same as every spreadable.

Lurpak also makes real butter

Haven’t any of you Lurpak people ever had butter?

it’s as nonsensical to me as someone twittering in about how they love coffee and mellow birds has gone up in price.

🤷‍♀️

Again, what am I missing here? Lurpak is butter. It only has salt added, nothing else.

I can’t understand what people think it is.

IrisVersicolor · 06/07/2022 18:14

Lurpak is ick. President Spreadable is the business.

Altho you can save money by buying normal butter and keeping it in a butter dish - thus always spreadable!

To be fair, Lurpak spreadable in the tub does have oil added to it. The old style block doesn't.

BotterMon · 06/07/2022 18:15

Buy British butter. Why on earth would you want to buy a fake, high calorie, high salt, over priced spread?

user143677433 · 06/07/2022 18:15

I apologise and consider myself corrected 😁. I only ever noticed the spreadable stuff.

What makes it different to any other butter then?

This makes no sense to me. I don't say I like butter, I say I like Lurpak. By the same token I would say I like mellow bird I don't.

I don't get the faux disgust on the thread by the 'butter connoisseurs' either. So what if people like Lurpak.

Lurpak is anaemic yuckiness. The Danes must have hypnotised you all.

Kerrygold for me.

Anaemic? You want extra iron in your butter?

Is that really a thing in the UK? I’m only familiar with normal butter, made from churned milk; which ones have added iron?

FoggySpecs · 06/07/2022 18:16

Phew! Thank goodness this thread isn't about "Last Tango in Paris"

knittingaddict · 06/07/2022 18:16

President spreadable doesn't have oil added. It's not as spreadable as some, but it is just butter

One more time…

It isn’t a spread, it’s butter.

Have I been taking crazy pills; are people talking about something else?

knittingaddict · 06/07/2022 18:17

You're being a bit literal Femme. Anaemic also means bland.

£7.50 in my local Morrisons, I won't be buying it for a while. Have it on a jacket potato with cheese.

Waitrose have the spreadable for £3.75 at the moment. I prefer it to Anchor-it's a different type of butter.

Maybe you have. There is more than one type of Lurpak. Some has added oil, some doesn't. It's really very simple.

ImAvingOops · 06/07/2022 18:18

Lurpak is minging. Anyone who spends the best part of a tenner on spreadable butter is a fool. Buy real butter with chunky salt crystals in!

jetadore · 06/07/2022 18:20

Kerrygold is the best. The cows are grass fed.

The butter doesn’t. “Spreadable” is another product that I don’t think is described as “butter” by the manufacturer.

The ignorant food snobbery here is as bad as the endless discussions about class.

FuckeryOmbudsman · 06/07/2022 18:23

Look at the thread title - it refers to a tub.

That's spreadable.

Lurpak is a brand that sells both block ('real') and spreadable, and both the thread title and the opening post are about tubs.

Tubs = spreadable
Block in foil/paper = real, so not what OP is on about.

PollenHigh · 06/07/2022 18:24

I rub Lurpak into my face once every day. The other day I was ID’d in Morrisons. I’m 65.

goldfinchonthelawn · 06/07/2022 18:24

President unsalted. Then add seasalt. So good.
