To ask if this is normal re teabags??

When I make a cup of tea, I put the used teabag straight in the compost bin. All other members of the household leave them in the spoon rest (like the attached) until there's a tower of teabags.

I would prefer them to go straight in the bin as I find this unsightly, but apparently this is highly unreasonable request and would add unnecessary steps to the (apparently highly complex and exhausting) process of making a cup of tea.

As a compromise I have a really pretty mug that they get piled into and that way the big pile of bags doesn't piss me off as I can't see them!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 06/07/2022 13:14

Does anyone else reuse teabags, or just my DH? He takes his very weak.

Meraas · 06/07/2022 13:15

Who are they expecting to move the tea bags from the spoon rest to the compost bin?

DogInATent · 06/07/2022 13:16

You make tea by dunking the bag in the mug? Totally unreasonable, and a hanging offence!

Get yourself a teapot. Tea's not tea unless it's brewed in a pot.

JiminyGlick · 06/07/2022 13:17

I can’t stand any ‘stuff’ on worktops, so teabags are straight into the bin.

stuntbubbles · 06/07/2022 13:35

I keep the teabag on the side to reuse for a second, worse cup of tea a bit later.

User354354 · 06/07/2022 13:39

I have a friend that just leaves them directly on the work top 🤮

Tea is not tea unless it's loose tea brewed with milk on the hob.

Mumsnetters make me question every little detail of my life, in case I've been doing everything wrong. Teabags? I can't get myself worked up about them. Sometimes I compost them, sometimes I just bin them.

olympicsrock · 06/07/2022 13:44

little pot with swingtop lid by the kettle . Emptied every few days. Get rid of the spoon rest.
couldn’t be bothered walking to a compost bin every time

scrivette · 06/07/2022 13:46

I leave them in my little spoon rest until they have dried out a bit before putting them in the food waste kitchen caddy. I don't want too much 'wet' in the caddy bag as it makes it go all damp and soggy.

I sometimes have a little 'tower' and am the only one who appears capable of dealing with it.

TheDogsMother · 06/07/2022 13:46

I just put the used teabag straight in the bin as I can't stand mess. Oddly though DH just bought me a tiny saucer for putting teabags on therefore adding another stage to the disposal process.

Clymene · 06/07/2022 13:52

I also have a teabag departure lounge. Mine even has a picture of a teabag on it Smile

SmashingEgg · 06/07/2022 13:52

YABU for using teabags, sorry.🙂

TheNoodlesIncident · 06/07/2022 13:54

We have a little ceramic pot that used to contain pate for this purpose. Only so many teabags fit in it before it needs emptying, so it doesn't build up to a level I find unacceptable.

Oddly, I do also have a teaspoon rest shaped like a teapot, it says TIME TO PAR-TEA on it. Not the same as yours though OP

apintortwo · 06/07/2022 13:58

All other members of the household leave them in the spoon rest

I do this because I use them twice* *or three times even😬

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 06/07/2022 14:01

We put them on a draining tray thing in the rinsing half of the sink. But the expectation is that they'll be relocated to the bin when you bring your empty mug back to the kitchen. Same reason of letting the liquid drain off and to save heating up the food waste bin throughout the day.

I'm another for this - never understood the point of a spoon rest, it invites lazy behaviours.

Teabag straight in the bin, spoon in the sink/dishwasher

Fruitteatime · 06/07/2022 14:03

Sorry but nobody should be composting them unless you are sure they are plastic free.

sophiasnail · 06/07/2022 14:05

Putting them straight in the compost heap is the sensible way, but not the "proper" way, so I think yabu.

HeckyPeck · 06/07/2022 14:06

I always thought that's what the spoon dishes were for! 😲

I will continue with my teabag tower building anyway ☕😁

OneTC · 06/07/2022 14:06

I'd never seen a spoon rest until I met DPs family.

They seem kinda surplus

maddiemookins16mum · 06/07/2022 14:07

I put mine straight in the compost bin, lid open for 10 mins, then close it.

mizzo · 06/07/2022 14:11

Tea gets made in a teapot. Teabags go in the caddy under the sink, the teabags are usually cooled by the time the pot is emptied but the lid is left open so no condensation anyway.

I don't see the point in having holding areas for things that should be dealt with straight away, DH has a letter rack that pisses me off daily and I refuse to budge and get an indoor recycling bin.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 06/07/2022 14:11

You know how having a penis apparently somehow makes someone better able to reverse a car? (I think they must balance it on the steering wheel, but I'm not sure). Well, this same appendage stops them from putting teabags in the bin, and they dump them on the side, in the sink, wherever. I have no idea how this appendage thinks the teabags migrate to the bin or get taken to the compost heap. It probably never thinks about it. Too busy thinking about sex.
