I am by no means a Tory and am not particulary a fan of Sajid either but not only does it smell of rats leaving a sinking ship butt also who on earth is left to take that brief?

Anyone with half a brain cell (so Nadine could still be in with a shout) won't take it so they have more credibility for when Boris finally goes and they hopefully get suggestions with at least decency and a moral compass

Steven Barclay to replace 😪

Who?

SnowyLamb · 05/07/2022 20:58

RoseAndRose · 05/07/2022 20:54

Who?

The man who "managed" our exit from the EU, had a job title something like Secretary of State for exiting the European Union". Was Downing Street Chief of Staff until today 😆

At last some Tories showing a tiny bit of moral compass.

They are all lying, self-serving c**ts.

JazzyBBG · 05/07/2022 21:00

Joint leadership bid?? But who for PM?
I know everyone touts Rishi but he just comes across as a twatty man child (not to mention out of touch with reality). I don't get it. At least Sajid is a grown up!

cansu · 05/07/2022 21:12

Good to see him appointing someone with absolutely no experience to be a suitable health secretary. Brexiteer and chum given a role that requires someone with real skill. Hopeless. Maybe Nadine Dorries will be chancellor - literally no clue.

SnowyLamb · 05/07/2022 21:15

TBF Barclay was previously Secretary of State for Health. He also did two stints at the Treasury so it will be interesting to see who was ahead of him for that job.

SnowyLamb · 05/07/2022 21:17

Sorry Minister of State for Health

StoneofDestiny · 05/07/2022 22:38

I give Johnson 48 hrs before he decides to 'spend more time with his family'.
Then he will be back on Not the 9 0'Click News and Strictly Come Dancing.

AchatAVendre · 05/07/2022 22:54

Steven Barclay is hardly a disaster. Born in Lancashire, father was a trade union official, mother a full time civil servant, qualified as a solicitor then worked in insurance and finance while beginning his political career.

So not a career politician and plenty of experience in a variety of high level roles backed up by qualifications. Not as profile as Sunak and Javid though.

Blossomtoes · 05/07/2022 23:03

How the fuck does a trade union official wind up as a Tory MP?

His father was a union official, not him

Nadim Zahawi is the new Chancellor of the Exchequer. Born in Bagdad, came to the UK at 9 years old, chemical engineering degree, solid career in business, Eurosceptic, and surprisingly, very horsey and his wife runs a riding school.

Beginning of the end. Thank Christ.

It is perhaps the end of the beginning.

Boris won’t resign. Someone will do it. Hasn’t he got a cocker poo? They’re pretty loyal.

Interesting question about not being able to fill a cabinet. I wonder what would happen if you couldn’t? Honestly it’s like a fucking playground. I’m sure we’d have a much more together country if they could stop treating it like a kiddy secret society and more like an actual job of work.

Valeriekat · 05/07/2022 23:51

Sajid Javid is the only person with the gravitas and integrity to lead the conservative party.

Didn't he submit an expenses claim for the heating in his stables?

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 04:25

Nadim did submit a claim for the heated stables , but he withdraw it apparently ( when he was found out)

EntertainingandFactual · 06/07/2022 04:44

This (from his resignation letter) says it all. We are is an absolute mess and only know about a small part of it.

Our country is facing immense challenges. We both want a low-tax, high-growth economy, and world class public services, but this can only be responsibly delivered if we are prepared to work hard, make sacrifices and take difficult decisions.

I firmly believe the public are ready to hear that truth. Our people know that if something is too good to be true then it's not true. They need to know that whilst there is a path to a better future, it is not an easy one. In preparation for our proposed joint speech on the economy next week, it has become clear to me that our approaches are fundamentally too different.

It's the people you don't really want resigning that are going!

This .
They were / are the good guys

SpinningForTheWorld · 06/07/2022 06:08

I assume that ‘the truth’ (‘Sunak’s truth’) is years of pain for the masses?

I want to know precisely in what form.

Because I cannot bear the idea of living through another decade of pointless, ideological Thatcheresque austerity.

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 06:23

I thought that Johnson was on board with tax cuts though ?

He's the MP behind the godawful proposed new schools bill which is set to cause a shit ton of problems for parents. He's a condescending arrogant arse bag.

Hopefully the proposed schools legislation will die a death now he's moved on but I doubt it. I think the damage is done and it's too far gone to reverse. Hopefully he won't make the same mess of the health service but I won't hold my breath.

Assanctamonioysastheycome · 06/07/2022 06:37

So if they want tax cuts how do they propose funding what's left of public services ?
NHS in crisis, schools and prisons crumbling, etc etc, brexit having a hugely negative impact and set to get worse as we've not even implemented most of it....

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 06:40

What is the school legislation about ?
( genuine question, don't have children in school anymore )

He was also very much part of the expenses scandal, claimed for having electricity put into his stables, but that's OK he's now in charge of all the money!

Plus he was at the Presidents Ball thing. A government practically brought down by someone groping men, still thinks groping women is OK.
