I am by no means a Tory and am not particulary a fan of Sajid either but not only does it smell of rats leaving a sinking ship butt also who on earth is left to take that brief?

Anyone with half a brain cell (so Nadine could still be in with a shout) won't take it so they have more credibility for when Boris finally goes and they hopefully get suggestions with at least decency and a moral compass

Why resign now after all the shit that's come out over the last two years, this stuff with this pincher bloke seems relatively small fry. Look at all the women who have reported harassment and assault by male MPs. Who resigned over them? Partygate didn't force them out, his tax evading wife didn't force sunak out, all the billions wasted in covid contracts didn't force them out. So why now?

Absolutely! They are both as bad as Boris. I'll be livid if Sunak ends up as PM. Less so with Javid but he doesn't come across as particularly strong

Then Sunak too. Now he's been a huge spender, and perhaps knows when the money will run out again (public opinion on Ukraine leaves no option but to increase defence spending, unforeseen and expensive enough to wreck planning)

So enlightened self interest here.

They know that even if Boris survives this, what's coming down the line will be dreadful and they don't want to be associated with it (no matter how much their fingerprints are on the precursors, they're counting on the public having the memory of a goldfish). And they get the benefit of looking principled.

Sunak has been the worst Chancellor in history, his wife is a tax dodging billionaire, he handed out furlough money, bounce back loans and SEISS grants like sweets and gave PPE contracts to his mates. The economy is in an astronomical state and he has had a huge hand in it all. And now he thinks he's going to be PM! You couldn't make this shit up!
