'Kyrgios charged with common assault'

www.skysports.com/share/12646207

Combined with his on court behaviour including spitting at a fan and ignoring rules and decency.

Or does the fact that his draws interest and thus money mitigate his behaviour?

YABU he should be allowed to play

YANBU he should be removed from the Competition.

He also deliberately hit a ball into the crowd and faced no on court penalty for doing so.

He received a code violation at the time it happened.

He should be kicked out of Wimbledon because of his disgusting behaviour. Spitting at a spectator is disgusting.

He is pathetic and I refuse to watch any of his matches. Someone said he is entertaining but I don't think showing off and being a dick is entertaining in the slightest.

stupid red trainers too. Total idiot who is so up himself it's untrue

Sorry, I just watched the reply, so stand corrected.

Tsisipas also received a bigger fine for his behaviour than Kyrgios.

Big tennis is entertainment and people like Kyrgios make it sell.
A brilliant tennis match is entertaining by itself. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Serena Williams would easily sell out the show courts without behaving like that.
I heard some commentators saying that he has to behave like that to play his best tennis....which is blatantly not true as he was far more reserved, less goady to his opponent, not shouting at officials etc in the next match and won it anyway.

In other sports being charged results in being dropped from the team.

He's not in a team, though. Unless it's the Olympics or the Davis Cup, tennis players play as individuals.

Lots of sportspeople with convictions continue to complete, let alone sportspeople who haven't yet been found guilty of anything - and in many cases that includes team sports. Jamie Vardy has a conviction for assault and still went on to play for England. Jonathan Woodgate was convicted of assault while playing for Leeds and his football career continued too.

I think Kyrgios is an unmitigated cunt on every level and I rarely watch him play because I find his behaviour tedious on court. He's an awful man. But tennis simply doesn't work along the lines you describe.

‘He’s been charged, not found guilty.’

and there we go. Hands up all those who think he’s innocent then?

Not relevant. There is as yet no evidence he has committed this crime. The court of public opinion is, fortunately, not yet used to determine criminal guilt or innocence. People think a lot of things, people are idiots.

He received 2 code violations, the second being a point penalty. And also a heftier fine than Kygrios.

One further thing to note, the way Serena Williams has been dealt with far more harshly, and more heavily criticised, for far less. They come down much more heavily on the women. Martina Navratilova pointed this out after the Kygrios match.

I do think it’s ironic that Kygrios is still there when the Russian players (through no fault of their own) have been banned.

I wasnt commenting on the fines - but the lack of respect tsitsipas also shows the game and gets away with. He has been accused of cheating and there isn't a suggestion of being banned. Instead rules were changed re toilet breaks.

I honestly didn't watch the game live as I dislike both players because of their antics and really didn't want either to win. My son asked who I would support in a kyrgios Djokovic final - and I honestly don't think I could watch that either. Arrogance all round.

I agree re the Russian and Belarusian players - Wimbledon should never had strayed into the political arena with that. But that's not the same as not throwing a player out mid tournament over allegations that he has not yet answered in a court of law.

I'm no kyrgios fan and it certainly will be interesting to see how he deals with any comments from the crowd today.

But I also wonder how many more will watch the match for that reason.

Urgh can't abide Wimbledon and all it's smug middle classessness!!

I am not sure that disapproving of spitting, bullying and abusive behaviour towards officials in professional sport is a particularly middle class trait

I object to him wearing his baseball hat back to front. Lowers the tone.

I also think there should be restrictions on coming out dressed like a Christmas tree because you are sponsored by Tiffany/Rolex etc.

YANBU there are lots of public posts where an assault charge would be viewed as bringing the organisation into disrepute and you'd be put on 'gardening leave' or desk duty until it was resolved. Tennis should be the same. Inadvertently he's representing Wimbledon and it's values. They should have told him to sit this out until the case is completed.
