People are struggling, prices of everyday items climbing every week (more so than in other developed countries). Everyone's spirit appears to be low. The jubilee weekend raised spirits a little but only temporarily.
Yes, post pandemic fatigue is probably a factor but I can't think of a single thing this government has done that has improved the lives of ordinary working people. In fact, quite the opposite.

(Come at me Tory troll farms)

You are not entitled to anything in this life!
The entitlement is the issue here.
You either get a better job that is well paid, or you reduce other areas to compensate.
What you can’t do is demand more for no effort and blame everyone else. Get a new job or a second income stream whilst inflation is an issue

bloody hell. So much entitlement on this thread and petulant demands

So how do you suggest we staff hospitals and schools provence, once teachers and nurses take your advice and get themselves a job that is better paid.
This is one of the most stupid, callous posts I've ever seen on Mumsnet. Of course people in full time work should be able to afford a basic standard of living. And we all pay our taxes to enable that. I can't believe that you dismiss this as 'petulant demands.'
[It's pretty obvious that theyhavenothing meant to say 'I'm not talking about TVs brand new cars and cruises' - the rest of the post gave ample context.]

Take your point about home-edding - in fact I had to do it myself for a while when my son was badly bullied. It was expensive though - we had to pay for tutors and to pay hundreds for him to sit GCSEs as a private candidate. I accept not everyone would bother with exams, though, which is fair enough.
Don't really agree re NHS. Yes, we could all live a healthier lifestyle, but that doesn't protect you from everything. People end up needing help through no fault of their own every minute of the day. We've seen that with the thousands and thousands of people who had to be hospitalised with Covid, many of whom are still disabled as a consequence.

Well no, I think you must bother with exams but I take your point actually too because my child is only young and it WILL become more expensive as time goes on.

But I have time to save up for tutors.

It all depends on your start in life. I was fed a typical toxic diet as a kid full of processed food, meat, dairy, but again; we have the internet and I looked into nutrition and changed my diet. I've never been ill since.

My child won't have any of the same issues because we have given her the best start. She's not been ill once in her life.

It's all going to be about the next generation but I do see these systems crumbling with not very much we can do about it and after being a lifelong activist, socialist, protester, I've thrown in the towel and put all my efforts into my own child thriving in whatever world we will be left with.

And just to reiterate; it's freedom that allows me to do this. I would still fight wholeheartedly to remain free, everything else each to their own and none of my business.

Why is it the government's job to fix everything?

Out of curiosity, what do you think the governments job is? To take our tax money and use it for them and their mates to have fabulous lives while the rest of us work hard and struggle?

If so, keep voting Tory.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 05/07/2022 13:05

@Provenceinthesummer I'm not entitled to have a life that's not utterly miserable whilst working full time and contributing so society? Guess I'll just go and die then!
I know I will leave my nhs post so the likes of you over privileged berks can whine like hell when you have a twelve hour wait in a&e for your broken finger

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 13:06

We have two jobs and work over 60 hours a week, as do many people we know. Inflation caused by a war and thousands of people are actually dying not so far away and you are moaning that you can’t have luxuries is really shocking to me.

Speak to any Ukrainian and see if they wouldn’t swap your problems for theirs. You are being so narrow minded and myopic to be stamping your feet about hair cuts given what is happening.

cafcass123 · 05/07/2022 13:07

Why would you expect a Tory to be remotely interested in the lives of the populace?

To administer the basic systems we require on our behalf on a large scale, using our taxes.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 05/07/2022 13:09

lol hilarious
So because something shit is happening elsewhere (which everyone has sympathy for- it's as obvious as hell) the rest of us should suffer from not even having a basic standard of living despite being out there contributing to society?
Well it took exactly how long from clapping for nhs workers to reveling in their suffering!

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 05/07/2022 13:18

It's almost like some very obtuse people think the war in Ukraine means we don't have to pay for our energy bills /groceries /go to work

You've had some staggeringly stupid responses and pretty unkind. I'm very sorry you've had to put up with that. But they tell their own story about the person posting - I don't think many Mumsnetters are going to fall for the nonsense.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 13:40

You can’t ignore the reason WHY we are in this position!!

A huge fuck off war just a few thousand miles away inside one of the biggest food producers on the continent - it’s just ridiculous that you are ignoring the connection!

I find it mindless to bleat about the government- when any government of any colour would be in the same position!

We have been suffering for a long time under the Tory government . The war is a red herring. I've also done a lot of aid work before in Afghanistan and Zimbabwe so pipe down with the assumptions of ignorance will you?

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 05/07/2022 13:54

Tory is as Tory does I guess

Hadalifeonce · 05/07/2022 13:56

It isn't just the UK, I was reading something from someone in the US, food prices are rising, there are food shortages in some shops. Flights are being cancelled leaving passengers stranded. Sounds a very similar story.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/07/2022 13:56

Speak to any Ukrainian and see if they wouldn’t swap your problems for theirs. You are being so narrow minded and myopic to be stamping your feet about hair cuts given what is happening.

By that logic, you could also berate Ukrainians for complaining about their situation, because some people have to contend with war AND famine AND extreme poverty.

itsgettingweird · 05/07/2022 13:58

Provenceinthesummer · 04/07/2022 15:57

It’s not just the pandemic, a serious war is raging in Europe causing these issues op. It is happening globally not just here.
Please keep things in perspective, it could be, and still may get much worse regardless of who is in government l.

But you would hope you have a government you could at least trust to tell the truth.

Not one who lockdown a country and has parties.

Not one who employs known employees who initiate inappropriate sexual behaviour.

Not one who's employees have affairs during a pandemic where their job is one of the most important.

Not one who have at least 5 MPs facing or having faced charges in a year mostly due to sexual related offences.

You can't stop the inevitable downfall of a country due to international situations.

But even in this case we have a government who one week made a 3 line whip against a windfall tax and the next decided to have a windfall tax and expected everyone to sing hallalluh to labours their great idea.

The whole issue is they don't know what telling the truth is and they think the electorate are too thick to notice.

Johnson isn't out for our country - he's out for himself and so we'll suffer more than we need to.

That is entirely factually incorrect.
The war and the pandemic have caused most of the issues z and inflationary pressures we face today.

Your anti government rhetoric is very transparent - most people are aware of the truth.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 14:00

And if you have done charity work in Africa - I have also been to Africa - then you SHOULD know how very very lucky you are.

Its not the government's job to nanny people. What's wrong with self improvement?

They selectively nanny people when they feel they need to (make money in some way)

No one seemed to mind being furloughed

I think you'll find a great many did.

And plenty of us carried on working for our wage. Some of us in environments where he seemed to think covid wouldn't turn up Confused

Yes. This ^^ that’s exactly what I read. She’s not asking for big TVs or cruises.

if you are working full time then you ought to be able to pay bills, rent / mortgage and for food at the bare minimum… if you can’t then something is wrong with the system.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 05/07/2022 14:04

I'm lucky to have a job and a house and food.
I'm not lucky to have a job I have trained years to do and don't get paid enough to survive on a basic level. I'm not lucky to work hours of unpaid overtime week after week. I'm not lucky to have people sneering and judging what I should be happy about and I'm not lucky enough to be suffering with health issues which are physically stopping me being able to do anymore which again I shouldn't have to due to already bloody working full time

Mind you when you support a selfish idiotic despot with no credibility and integrity to lead the country it's enough to see your views are nothing to do with helping others

They are pretty clear on the message that TWANW and should keep the hell out of women's sports, changing rooms etc. And that sex = sex and gender = loada bollocks. That single issue would get them my vote (or is that two issues? 🤔)

Posts like this automatically raise a picture in my head of someone on their death bed due to a combination of starvation/freezing to death, and on their last breath utter the words 'but at least they know what a woman is'

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 14:10

You seem to have an issue with the truth.
