You should go to the toilet after every meal

I have just seen this article where Heather Mills claims that we should go the toilet after every meal that we have and not just once a day. Was just a bit in interesting to think about really. The article is linked below.

Yes, but if you change your diet you would go more often - is the point

Intrigued how you came across the 4 year old article, OP?
We're you searching articles on poo, articles on Heather Mills or those containing Poo and Heather Mills?

4 years old?

Time to leave this thread now.

Surely it would be bad for you to sit there straining at nothing, when you didn't really need to go?

Momicrone · 03/07/2022 10:33

That's not what the article suggested

Sparklingbrook · 03/07/2022 10:53

I only get half an hour for lunch. That's a lot to fit in. Grin

I have not read the article.

There is a valid discussion to have about not only how often you go to the toilet, but about access to one, and perhaps also access to one you feel comfortable using. Unpleasant work place toilets or ones that can be used by men and women can be a barrier to using them, which may have a health impact.

Working from home at least part of the week where your toilet is clean and you are comfortable using it may have a hidden benefit to your health.

The observation about gaming and 'holding it in' is well made too.

I do wonder where @pleasureandfeel has got to...

Fizbosshoes · 03/07/2022 11:08

she also suggested that another possible contributing factor involved children and young adults not going to the loo when they wanted to because they were absorbed in something like gaming, and that ‘holding on’ for longer periods meant increased contact between stuff your body wants to get rid of and bowel walls.

Most of MN literally never use a toilet outside their own house and no one else is allowed to use their toilet so they can't be going that regularly...? (I have to say if I stay at my inlaws I try not to go because a) there is no lock on the toilet door b) there is a full length mirror directly in front of the toilet which is v off-putting!!) Neither of my kids even like going for a wee at school because they hate the toilets at school, so I think as well as distraction there is an element of anxiety about using "other" toilets....

You’re right, actually. My ten year old hates using the school loos, and you’ve just reminded me that for years my PILs had as their sole loo a glass-doored one opposite the living room with the toilet directly facing the door. It was rippled glass, but it didn’t exactly leave a lot to the imagination (and meant I virtually never used it...)

I must admit I’ve only come across the notion that it’s outrageously rude and crass to poo in a loo outside your own home on Mn, though.

I saw it discussed on Gogglebox once and was shocked as well.
