AIBU - Aldi: How much should this have cost...?

GingerWit · 02/07/2022 20:51

I'm not sure if I should be shocked or I should have realised everything will cost more due to cost of living situation etc and I need to suck it up.

However, Mumsnetter's!

How much do you think the following should have cost?

Small tray of beef pieces
Jar of mango chutney
2 onions
Bag of wonky peppers
3 packets of microwave rice
Small, plastic container
Cheap drinks bottle
Tin of mixed fruits
2 Naan Bread's
Garlic bread
Small tray of Indian bits (bhaji and samosa x2)
Flour
Sugar

One bag of shopping from Aldi. This is also a bit of fun/tongue-in-cheek to help me get over handing over the money when it came time to pay and my daughter needed to unfurl my iron-like grip from my card and put it in the card machine for me while I stood there wondering when are my kids gonna get a job at the ages of 8,9, and 14 and buy me food instead and leave my money alone.

Alas, here I am! So...how much!? Have a guess!

(I didn't get a receipt. Daughter was too busy guiding me out of the store through my veil of tears and catatonic state. I might actually just be a tight-wod!?) Hubby works full-time, I work full-time.

Anyway!

How much!?

(Stffu, Aldi! Stffuuuuuu! hisses)

Even the pork? Remarkable.

😂😂That had me chuckling! Halal Pork smh, the poster you replied to probably thinks you’re serious 😂

Lastminpanic · 03/07/2022 18:45

Well, it’s 18 items, each one costing a couple of quid so I’m not that surprised. I’m with you on how expensive the weekly shop is and can’t imagine how some families are managing .we are incredibly lucky not
to have to count every penny when we shop, but it’s getting ridiculously expensive. I hate meal planning for the week but think I’m going to have to start being stricter. Family of four, one pescatarian, one vegetarian and one carnivore who doesn’t class a meal as food unless there is some animal included

BellePeppa · 03/07/2022 18:45

I would have said it should be no more than £33 with the update so am quite shocked to see it was £45!

cherish123 · 03/07/2022 18:47

£22?

cherish123 · 03/07/2022 18:49

Okay - see extra items. I would have said with extra items £35.
£45 is a lot. You would be cheaper in Waitrose.

Easilystartled · 03/07/2022 18:50

I’ve never heard of Aldi. Is it like Fortnum’s? Or cheap, like Selfridges Food Hall? My guess would be around one to two hundred pounds.

Lalosalamanca · 03/07/2022 18:51

£25 ish

Newpuppymummy · 03/07/2022 18:53

£33

knittingaddict · 03/07/2022 18:55

Without looking - £25 - £30.

Don't have an Aldi near us, so that's a complete guess.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 03/07/2022 18:57

Daughter was too busy guiding me out of the store through my veil of tears and catatonic state.

Bit of an over reaction?

Stop buying microwaveable rice for a start. It's minging and costs far too much.

Post the receipt please OP, I don't believe you.

CambsAlways · 03/07/2022 19:12

Just seen you added more so I’d say altogether 38

Georgyporky · 03/07/2022 19:12

Daft question !! Give weights & details.

e.g. 1st item. What cut of beef?? What weight ??

Gets worse......

Fairfatandforty · 03/07/2022 19:13

£32

CambsAlways · 03/07/2022 19:13

Oh 45 yep that’s more than I thought

AngelinaFibres · 03/07/2022 19:15

I was charged for things I didnt have when I did a shop at Aldi a while ago. I shop there often and it was a one off event. I was adding up roughly as I went round and it was a lot more, so I queried it. There were 4 things on my receipt that were not in my bag. I hadn't left the shop so they couldn't say I had hidden them in my car and then come back. Since then I always skim through the receipt by the shelf they have for you to pack your stuff properly. It hasn't happened again but I suspect that is what has happened. Or that the box and bottle had the wrong codes on and you have been charged for a mans wetsuit and a hedge trimmer.

Def more Fortnum's than Selfridges.

YesGotIt · 03/07/2022 19:22

I dont think Aldi is very cheap anymore.

I find it much cheaper to get a delivery from Tesco, then I'm not tempted by all rhe 'extras' and it saves fuel.

TheHumanSatsuma · 03/07/2022 19:25

28 quid

Damnautocorrect · 03/07/2022 19:33

2 chicken breasts have gone up 60p in a month (10p in a week)
herbs 10p a packet in a week
broccoli 15p in a month
Stewing beef went up about a month ago from £2.19 to £3 something and I haven’t bought any since

it all adds up.
i still stand by aldi being cheaper, but it is all relative isn’t it.

Sillyname63 · 03/07/2022 19:34

I would say £40. It soon mounts up , I don't find Aldi that cheap anymore.

Evan456 · 03/07/2022 19:43

Well??

Crikeyalmighty · 03/07/2022 19:46

I'm pretty sure I could have got it in M&S for that - and some things would be nicer!!
