For taking an outfit into school for mufti day when I forgot?

DD is in reception. Turned up today and it was a mufti (free dress) day and I had forgotten. DD was a bit tearful but alright. On the walk home I decided to drop in a home clothes outfit so she wasn’t left out all day (2 min detour from my planned morning shop). I haven’t seen her yet but I know she will be happy to wear her own clothes.
Was chatting to my friend over coffee and told her about my forgetfulness and she called me a melt and a pushover and said I was spoiling DD. If it had been a working day I wouldn’t have bought a spare outfit as I’d be dashing to work but it was minimal effort on my part and I know DD would appreciate it. Now I feel really silly and I’m worried the reception staff will think I’m weird for doing that. So

YABU it was a mistake she would have got over it and learnt I’m not perfect etc
YANBU she’s 5 and for a small effort she is now happier all day

YANBU
I once drove my 11yo a packed lunch she had forgotten and added some warm Greggs stuff. She was having a rotten time at school generally and cried with happiness when I gave it to her in the car park. She still talks about it now!

At my DD's secondary school the year eights have a day each on reception dealing with things like this.

They have their own table with a name card on and if your dc has forgotten their calculator then you take it to this child and they look on the timetable and deliver it. I went in last week to collect a blazer from the school uniform shop and she was great.

I did this for my dd when she was in year 3, she forgot, I forgot but it was an easy fix to make sure she had a good day and she was appreciative. When ds forgot in year 2 he shrugged his shoulders, said 'oh well' took off his school jumper and ran off to the climbing frame with his mates so I didn't take any clothes in for him as he wasn't bothered!

It was a nice small kind act you did for your dd, no need to overthink it.

I've done the same before, also coats when it s started chuking it down and shock horror the occasional thing forgotten when the older ones were teens !

We all forget things sometimes and at your dcs age its not down to them to remember

Must remember Monday is wear red day or I'll be taking things in again!

I have (and DH has) dropped plenty of forgotten items off in both primary and secondary school office in our time - school bags, PE kits, glasses, violins, packed lunches, medicines…

I don’t think it’s spoiling them, there’s a lot to remember and everyone drops the ball every now and then, both parents and children.

I’d rather my dc learned the lesson that DH and I will try to help if we can, regardless of whose mistake it was - occasionally we have been at work and dc have had to go without.

A parent did this once for her child in my class. She rushed home, and came back with grey trousers and a red top. The school uniform was grey trousers and red junmpers 🙈🙈🙈

I've forgotten mufti days before and the headteacher has said just pop home and bring her some clothes if you've got time 🤷‍♀️
It happens often apparently so the reception staff won't think your crazy 🤣

@Meraas The part of the UK where I come from, 'mufti' means something verrrrrry different! 🤣

I've done similar when DS had a teddy bear's picnic at school and forgot his teddy. I dropped it off at reception for him. Why wouldn't you?!

Peccary · 01/07/2022 18:16

I went to a school for military kids and it was called mufti.

DD's class wear home clothes every Monday but someone always forgets and drops something in, never occurred to me that it was spoiling

Yanbu! Once when DD was in nursery I forgot it was Christmas jumper day until she was out the door with her dad, chased them down the street in my pjs with it because I didn’t want her to be left out xD

She's just teasing I think - she'd have done the same I bet.
