To dye my three year old DD's hair pink?

DD 3.5 and has been pleading for 'pink hair' since she saw her older half sibling (DSD) with a funky colour.

I don't see the harm in it and im thinking of doing it for her as a treat over the summer holidays when she isn't at nursery, not a permanent dye ofc but one of those wash out in 6-8 washes ones. She has brown hair so it's unlikely to stain as blonde would. It won't be too noticeable but should reflect the light in the sun nicely.

So WIBU? Would you judge?

I would judge ear piercing more, but then I'm not sure I'd judge at all

Is anyone else getting absolutely incensed by this thread and the number of numpties saying they would judge the OP (one would judge to the hills and back apparently)? The OP has very clearly stated that she wouldn't use permanent due, only the wash out temporary colour AHHH, why is this winding me up so much 😡

Temporary hair colour is still full of chemicals that won't do her scalp any favours. I wouldn't judge as I don't really care, but why are you getting so wound up about it?

CapMarvel · 29/06/2022 19:09

It's totally fine. Ignore the judgemental pricks, who cares what they think?

I'm not sure! I need to step away 😂

@Frequency speaks a lot of sense! I use Directions and it really is nothing like a box dye or a salon dye. You can tell because it just smells like conditioner, none of that burning ammonia smell you get from other dyes. I can only assume those worrying about harsh chemicals aren’t very familiar with these kinds of dyes.

You do need to be aware that if you dye her hair with one of these dyes, you’ll need to keep her away from white towels, sheets and pillows! It does wash out but the sight of a white pillow after I’ve slept on it with freshly-dyed hair is quite alarming.

My daughter wanted pink hair the summer before school when she was 4. I did a dip dye effect with "live colour" stuff which worked well. I felt better just doing the tips and keeping any chemicals off her scalp.

@Wh7 I'm really strict about some things but I try not to sweat the small stuff. It's her hair, she understood the implications of caring for it properly afterwards so 🤷🏻‍♀️She's always been adamant about what she wears and her look. No idea where she gets it from as I rarely wear makeup and spend most of my life in jeans and a T-shirt.

@SSDDagain us St Mary's lot need to stick together! Not sure how I'd feel if she wanted a Mohican but again, her hair, her choice!

The impression I'd get is that anyone who does that is quite a cool, fun parent, personally!

Or thinks they are

I've been dying my hair one colour or another since I was a teenager and I'll be honest, I would judge. I definitely think 3 is far too young to start messing with her hair like that, it probably won't work anyway if she's brown haired, and there are so many temporary solutions available that dye isn't needed.
