To think of running a festival/retreat for women who have just had enough?!

A weekend in the early summer, before the schools break up.
Somewhere easy to get to by train, but in the countryside somewhere beautiful, a really relaxed hotel or other retreat building.
come with a group of friends or book a blissful room to yourself - baths in all rooms.
Some lovely lounges to relax with a book, chat to other women, play board games with great tea and coffee on tap
Great food but really relaxed and easy going
Wild swimming, walks and guided runs
a gym
Very optional talks, yoga, pilates, crafts, skills you can book on to if you want.
Arrive from Friday lunchtime, leave sometime on Sunday afternoon.
Can be badged as mandatory work training if it’s hard to get away.
Who’s in? And what else would you want or need?

This sounds heavenly.

I did something similar with a few friends recently - all kids left at home, rented a cottage with a beautiful garden for a weekend, all took our craft stuff. Ate nice food (I guess it could be made even better if someone else cooked it and washed up!) wandered about, chatted, did crochet/knitting/whatever. With wine as required. It was amazing. Need to do it more!

CuteOrangeElephant · 27/06/2022 10:24

I'd love there to be plenty of cheese.

Booze yes, but no drunks.
Lovely spas with hot tubs and saunas and herbal baths.

Trixiefirecracker · 27/06/2022 10:33

@stilldumdedumming where was yours?

neverbeenskiing · 27/06/2022 10:36

This is such a good idea I can't believe no one has done it. They would make a fortune! The only real life retreats I can find online are very "wellness" focused. All about meditation, plant based food, hiking and foraging. Which is fine if that's your thing but it's not really for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy for a bit of yoga and a nice walk to be included but I also want to be able to drink wine, eat steak and watch a good film or something.

Sorry if this has already been suggested, I haven't had time to read the full thread, but there is something similar that has been organised, it's called 'worldies official' and has been set up by a lady called Emer-Jay Van-Gillis.

Here's the Facebook link.

it looks brilliant, but I'm not sure if it's single sex or not and I haven't yet plucked up the courage to ask!

If its not single sex, I'm not interested, but I'm not in the mindset to ask and risk a pile on at the moment.

No hen parties.

bumpytrumpy · 27/06/2022 10:42

@TheHuntingoftheSnark if this is something you're considering as a business I suggest you read The Mom Test as a starting point on how to conduct valuable consumer market research. I'd be wary of investing in something with such vague responses. Plus it's an interesting book and available for free online.

No WiFi
Vegan. Whole food.
Minimal booze policy

I don't get this attitude at all. You don't just want options available to suit you, you want to remove other peoples options too. It's weird.

How about you choose the vegan option and turn your own wi-fo off?

And one of those massive tyre swings on a rope, we can swing on, just like Lana Del Ray does on beginning of her video "Ride".

Yes! Also hammocks and a tree house with books in it.

I'd not considered it until seeing the responses to this thread! I think I'd want to try to do it not for profit if I did do it. thanks for the link though, looks interesting.

I like the sound of this but the 'groups of friends' in the blurb, rightly or wrongly, would put me in mind of hen parties and make me wary.

I'd like vegetarian and no alcohol, and did you mention meditation?

Smogtopia · 27/06/2022 11:04

I'm in. Can we have badges that say 'open to chit chat' or 'please leave me in introverted bliss'?

Not suggesting that the PP intended this but if you were a determined and evangelical vegan who wanted a captive audience to bore the arses off about your plant-based sober lifestyle, the No wifi/vegan/no booze regime would be just about perfect wouldn’t it? The poor sods couldn’t even seek solace in a gin & tonic!

palygold · 27/06/2022 11:08

I don't like the sound of the 'board games' either. It would put me off. Not sure why, but if you're researching the idea.

Alcohol would encourage the hen party crowd, in my opinion, so that would also be off putting.

Totally agree. The whole 'vegan/yoga/yurt/wellness' thing is everywhere these days and, if that's the tone of this venture, then it would be a resounding no from me.

As pp said, absolutely feel free to go for the vegan option for yourself, and choose to switch your own phone off if that's your preference. But don't attempt to dictate what you want my preferences to be.

Lansonmaid · 27/06/2022 11:13

Been thinking of having a retreat holiday for a while, so sign me up! Happy not to have the booze but would like a option of good quality meat meats. And have some quiet rooms with comfy squashy chairs

stayingpositiveifpossible · 27/06/2022 11:15

Flexible breakfasts or basket of breakfast goods in your room on the balcony in case you are zoned out to people.

Fluffy towels.

LadyWhistledownsPen · 27/06/2022 11:24

Dear god yes I'm there with bells on. Sounds great to me.

WithGayAbandon · 27/06/2022 11:24

I want to be given a crown of meadow flowers on arrival 🤩

KimWexlersPonyTail · 27/06/2022 11:53

Absolutely NO community singing please around the fire pit, if any bugger turns up with a guitar I am off.

Can I have a Premier Inn mattress in my yurt please?

Simbobbly · 27/06/2022 11:56

This would be so amazing! No other requests, I'd be happy with being catered for with no thinking required.

FreeRangeFloozy · 27/06/2022 12:03

There’s a place like this near me and it’s free for women who cannot afford to pay.
