To wonder if Boris is from another planet?

Because how else can you explain the level of detachment from reality this man presents?

According to The Times “Boris Johnson planned to build a £150,000 treehouse in the grounds of Chequers but was forced to abandon the idea after the police raised security concerns.”

Maybe Carrie wanted the more expensive solid tree house so if she finds out he is cheating on her , or they have a big row she can send him up it!

perenniallymessy · 25/06/2022 13:40

Oh my goodness @onthefencesitter they do look amazing and I suspect £150k would build a very modest one compared to some of the tree houses on that website!

I totally understand that the children of a Prime Minister won't have a normal childhood and can't just nip to the park to use the play equipment, so it's far to have a modest amount of play equipment out at Chequers. But a) it doesn't need to cost that much and b) Boris should be putting his hand in his own pocket to cover it and not asking his mates to pay!

I think the problem is that they move in circles where spending that sort of money is completely normal and they have absolutely no concept what life is like for regular people. There have been lots of reports in the press that Boris claims he can't possibly be expected to live on his salary, so he clearly has a taste for the finer things in life. The amount they spent on the Downing Street redecoration was insane- we spent less than that on a two storey extension!

And a politician that is so completely out of touch with how normal people live isn't going to prioritise helping normal people. He probably wonders why people struggling to heat their homes don't just ask their friends to pay or get a little side job writing for a newspaper.

the80sweregreat · 25/06/2022 13:49

Wilfred is so loved by the employees at number 10 and 11 that they broke his swing during an illegal lockdown party ( sorry , working party or whatever )
At least a tree house is out the way of drunken antics , but 150,000 is insane. Out of touch of normal people 's budgets for such things when many struggle to pay for rent or food each month.

I am no fan of theresa may but her shoes were from russell and bromley and she wore LK Bennett. Her house was a large house in sonning which is a pretty exclusive village near reading, but I think it has been estimated to be in the £1 million to £ 2 million bracket. Tbh, a house in my area (london) is also around £1 million and it is considered a 'middle class' rather than posh area so I don't think it is excessive for a Prime Minister and her investment manager husband. It is a choice, Boris' choice is always to spend the maximum amount of money, usually other people's money.
Theresa and Phillip may probably have more money than Boris/Carrie as Phillip definitely earns more money than Carrie as an investment manager. Boris had a good income from his side job but he probably had an expensive divorce and lots of dependents.

Happygirl79 · 25/06/2022 14:13

Boris is a dangerous man to have in the top job as PM. He will erode the confidence still held by the last few tory voters until its gone completely and his MPs are just as bad as him if they are shielding him. What women see in him I really can't imagine

RepublicOfNarnia · 25/06/2022 14:17

I love this Grin Theresa May is a beacon of conservatism. She might have created the hostile environment and deported hundreds of black men and women from the windrush generation to their deaths but alas! Her shoes were nice and her house was only worth a meagre 1million. Grin

SilverGlitterBaubles · 25/06/2022 14:19

He is a lying, selfish, arrogant charlatan along with most of his cabinet.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 25/06/2022 14:21

Anyhow what a wonderful distraction story so that the media focus of this rather than his disastrous bi election results.

pixie5121 · 25/06/2022 14:22

I mean, yes.

I've met a lot of upper class people and they really do live in a different world to the rest of us. Not ever having to worry about money and being given everything you've ever dreamed of on a plate creates a very special kind of person.

lol i hated theresa may as a recent immigrant. But someone was saying that Boris is like that because he mixes with other rich people and thinks its 'normal'. Well it isn't!

Actually I raised russell and bromley as its a fairly MC brand that a ordinary professional woman would be able to afford. Ditto for LK Bennett. Unlike the 150k treehouse that most people can't even begin to imagine. Re the £1 million house, even my MIL who earns below minimum wage is not shocked at a £1 million house as its quite normal in London; her own house is worth £750k.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2022 12:46

Where is your evidence for this intelligence?

Well, Eton and Oxford don't usually enrol idiots, but it's true that raw intelligence doesn't always confer practical ability or even common sense ... which is why I said Boris's has been used on the wrong things

You only need AAA and there's a 40% acceptance rate for classics at Oxford. It isn't really that remarkable that he got in when you consider he went to one of the most expensive private schools in the country. He didn't get a first. Is that the only evidence you have of this intelligence?

GreenLunchBox · 25/06/2022 14:28

If There's May's house is worth £1M then I will eat my hat

His behaviour is similar to that of functioning alcoholics that I have known. Except they lied a lot less.

Yes! He reminds me a lot of an ex of mine who had alcohol issues. Same shambolism and weird decision making (and weird personal life).

Snog · 25/06/2022 14:37

Yes, Planet Privilege

Shunter350 · 25/06/2022 14:41

I've started to ask myself if Eton is aware of the damage it has caused over the last 200 years or so. But they no, they probably don't.

MagpiePi · 25/06/2022 14:42

His latest announcement about how he is not going to change his character reminds me of my ex who always said 'I was like this when we got together' to excuse any bad behaviour.
I don't understand how anyone can still think he's a good PM.

I've been to Wimbledon a few times and I always wonder why posh guys think the can get away with faded pink cords and tasseled loafers ( no sock obv ) ... shabby chic indeed..Grin

adorablecat · 25/06/2022 14:52

Think of the poor kids. They will need somewhere to get away from their father because, of all the embarrassing dads who ever caused a child to cringe and wither in humiliation, he must be one of the top ten excruciating tits.

Good point, if they are ever made accountable the reparations bill will be astronomical!

Nevermind the last 200 years, it produced 2 21st century Prime Ministers who gambled away the country's wellbeing due to their arrogance, entitlement and lack of responsibility. And we're only in 2022.

Eton is a fucking disgrace and should be investigated thoroughly then closed down!

They're not going to care as long as the fees and donations keep coming in. They are primarily businesses. The rest is just to make people want to invest in the business.

GreenLunchBox · 25/06/2022 23:16

He's apparently 'actively thinking about a third term that will keep him in power until the mid 2030s'

t.co/Pxeh8Nk24F

Why would you want a job where so many people actively hate you and it must be stressful every day? It can't be about money by this point Confused

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 25/06/2022 23:19

He's trolling. He knows his time is limited.

GreenLunchBox · 25/06/2022 23:20

He seems very sure he'll be sticking around. Probably planning to change some laws to ensure he stays.

PlanetNormal · 25/06/2022 23:22

Of course he’s from another planet. He went to Eton then studied Classics at Oxford, where he learned the essential life skill of speaking fluent Latin.

With that background, what do you expect? Down to earth normality?
