tiredemma · 15/01/2008 17:31

bundle · 15/01/2008 17:32

wasn't it MSSA?

DrNortherner · 15/01/2008 17:32

She should have soem compensation for being married to a twat

tiredemma · 15/01/2008 17:32

she was very very ill from whatever it was she caught.

bundle · 15/01/2008 17:32

or having rough sex with a twat?

Lauriefairycake · 15/01/2008 17:33

There's no rhyme or reason to it (sorry about your mum)

Each case is taken individually and she is profoundly disabled now.

quincywincy · 15/01/2008 17:33

I would be too NT. Having said that I know nothing of her case. Your poor mum. Is she ok now?

ZippiBabes · 15/01/2008 17:33

i think comparing these things is always a bit crass..but soldiers don't get that much for lsoing legs for eg do they

yurt1 · 15/01/2008 17:33

does it take into account loss of earnings?

bundle · 15/01/2008 17:34

hasn't she endorsed an antibacterial cleaning brand?

ZippiBabes · 15/01/2008 17:34

nobody really gets enough

Iota · 15/01/2008 17:35

to be fair LA nearly died and has been disabled for the last few years - she was in a wheelchair for a long time.

Sorry about your mother, I would have thought that she would have received more than that.

DrNortherner · 15/01/2008 17:36

rough sex indeed

needmorecoffee · 15/01/2008 17:37

we got nothing when dd was brain damaged because we couldn't prove it. She needs a lifetime of care and we get bugger all.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 15/01/2008 17:38

Does seem quite a lot when injured service men who are fighting for their country get a maximum of £285,000.

Weegle · 15/01/2008 17:41

I don't think the issue should be how much LA has got. She has been left disabled.

The issue is how much our servicemen and women and other people get, like your mum. I'm sorry about your mum, I really am, but it shouldn't be in the context of LA's problems.

Oblomov · 15/01/2008 17:42

Agree with NAB. But our soldiers amount will always seem paltry compared to some 'high profile' 'D list celebrity case' !!

duchesse · 15/01/2008 17:44

In fairness, she has also lost her entire career for same. She can't work again in the same way she used to, and seems to have lost several years x however many pounds. I refuse to cast any moral judgment over how she sustained the injury that landed her in hospital in the first place. What if she had fallen over in the street and the same had happened? would be even be quibbling?

lulumama · 15/01/2008 17:46

these things never seem fair, never seem equitable. i agree with duchesse.

bundle · 15/01/2008 17:47

she obviously could afford good lawyers

Presumably it must have been based on loss of earnings, and based on her preious earnings from recent past. I guess this will explain the higher levels of compensation.

TBH I don't think most people get anywhere near a decent amount for compensation.

duchesse · 15/01/2008 17:49

And in fairness and with respect, nametaken, but your mum must already have had some sight loss before the botched operation. I don't know how they award these things, but I imagine that deterioration vs state before the event might come into account.

As regards military personnel, I am sorry but I think that compensation should be limited to what they need to live on having regard to their remaining abilities. You enlist in the army knowing it is a dangerous occupation. It's a little different from going to a hospital expecting them to make you better, only to have them nearly kill you instead.

Hulababy · 15/01/2008 17:50

Who she is,the fact that she is famous and how she ended up in hospita in the first place is completely irrelevant to how much compensation she recieved.
