Posting for traffic, sorry.

Can anyone tell what the word before "Northern Ireland" says on this birth certificate?

I've included a shot of other words to make it easier.

Additionally, does anyone know how to find out your mother's maiden name if you do not know what it is?

If your DP was born in England or Wales a website called FreeBMD should have his birth record which will include his mother's maiden name.
I agree that your record says Newry.

JetBlackSteed · 22/06/2022 19:38

Definitely Newry. My elderly aunts write their capital N and M like that.

Sapphirensteel · 22/06/2022 19:38

Newry, Co Down.

diddl · 22/06/2022 19:41

Any chance it's Newry?😂

ObsidianBlock4 · 22/06/2022 19:54

No

Misunderstoodagain · 22/06/2022 20:13

It's Newry 100%

LIZS · 22/06/2022 20:18

Try freebmd. If you can locate your dm birth it should (post 1910) show her mother's maiden name.

Aerielview · 22/06/2022 20:22

Newry, in Co.Down

emmathedilemma · 22/06/2022 20:24

Newry in Northern Ireland. It’s down south towards the border with the republic.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 22/06/2022 20:36

Another one confirming Newry.

LatteLady · 22/06/2022 20:53

It's Newry in Co. Down, Northern Ireland.

StoneofDestiny · 22/06/2022 21:17

100% Newry

ThinWomansBrain · 22/06/2022 21:38

Newryis a city in Northern Ireland, divided by the Clanrye river in counties Armagh and Down, 34 miles (55 km) from Belfast and 67 miles (108 km) from Dublin. It had a population of 26,967 in 2011.

I'm toying with the idea of tracking down Irish grandparent to get an EU passport - problem is his name was used for a character in a teen tv series, so google brings up acres and acres of teen chat forums🙄

SupremeDreamz · 22/06/2022 23:55

Thank you to every person who replied, my DP sends his thanks to you all too. He thinks he has what he needs to work things out now. It's been an emotional day.

@ThinWomansBrain I know this is awful but from what my DP said this evening it's easier to get a copy of a death certificate than a marriage (depending on what you know). Maybe some of the other tips on here will be helpful to you.

It’s Newry , I lived there for years 🙂

toddlingabout · 23/06/2022 10:35

Census data is really helpful. I sent off for a marriage certificate from a few possible locations, 2 refunded me and one sent me the certificate. I think it was about £10. Also had to get birth and death certificates, but knew the locations for these. Ancestry is worth joining just for the time you're researching, I got tonnes of helpful suggestions on there. It's a long process for citizenship, but well worth it for the peace of mind.

I think there are companies out there who can research for you if you get really stuck. Good luck

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 23/06/2022 10:41

Family Search has a massive database and is free.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 23/06/2022 10:41

diddl · 22/06/2022 19:41

Any chance it's Newry?😂

I think so 😂

BestIsWest · 22/06/2022 17:47

Not sure about Northern Ireland but in England and Wales from about 1911 on, the mother’s maiden name is usually on the GRO index of births so you might be able to get it from there without needing the actual birth certificate.

That's correct on Free BMD , but if you look the birth up on the GRO index (at least for England) the mothers Maiden name is on nearly all records.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/06/2022 10:51

Definitely Newry.

Piglet89 · 23/06/2022 11:02

It is definitely Newry; a town in NI just north of the border.

Piglet89 · 23/06/2022 11:05

I was born in Belfast with cousins in Newry: but we can tell from the fact we know The word “Northern” begins with an N and the initial letter of the word before “Northern” is written exactly the same way that it is also an N and therefore “Newry”.

ThinWomansBrain · 23/06/2022 11:34

@SupremeDreamz thanks - I hadn't thought of that, (had mostly just googled in anti brexit huff🙄)
I know when (approx) and where my grandfather died, and I have my fathers death certificate, so should be fairly straightforward.

SupremeDreamz · 02/07/2022 16:13

Hello again, I have another question if anyone is still around.

We are trying to work out what the words are in the bottom, right hand box, so on row 111.

Sorry this image might be clearer.

Also, does anyone know how to find your mother's birth certificate if she was born in Northern Ireland but registered in the Republic?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
