AIBU?

To tell my friend that I’m not keen on her baby name?

Friend told me today she has chosen the name Susan for her baby. I don’t like it personally but automatically said “oh, that’s nice”.

she’s just WhatsApp me asking if I really liked the name as she got the feeling that I didn’t (oops, I’m a shit liar).

would I be unreasonable to admit that I don’t? Or should I carry on lying about it? (Which I can do easier via WhatsApp!)

I’d say tbh it’s not what I would chose but it’s your baby not mine.
Also has your friend thought of Susana ? Like from marriage of Figaro. It’s a bit like Susan but more fancy and more options to shorten.

Can’t go wrong with Jane. As we’re forever typing our email addresses, short names are good.

Jane?!

''Plain Jane'' immediately springs to mind.

so she never did reply so I sent her a text last night

“hiya, hope you’re ok! I’m worried I’ve offended you regarding babies name - you know I’m crap with words ☺️ I do think it’s a lovely name, just when you said it I had flashbacks to someone I knew at school and got distracted by that 😂 but just so you know, I do love the name and can’t wait until she’s here 🥰”

I got a reply this morning:

“hi, I’m fine, don’t worry! Just struggling with the heat 😂 well it’s now between Susan, Jane and Dorothy. What do you think of those? Xx”

now I’m not sure if she’s winding me up or not.

Those 1940s 'plain and sensible' names are already quite trendy with hipster types. The next trend now that the masses have claimed the Edwardian dustman names.

Hilarious thread. The OP someone how managed to turn the most innocuous situation into a potential feud with bad texting skills.

It's the name of 6, 60-something year olds in my village. Not time for it to be back in fashion yet!
I would ask what made her choose it. And if she pressed me, say it's not your sort of a name. But not give detailed criticism.

I'm sure OP's friend already had a baby and named her 😬
