we have wooden floors and were saying the other night we would like to experiment with a rug in the living room to cosy it up a bit

on his return from Ikea buying chests of drawers for dd he unveiled his purchase - a white rug with green twiddles on

okay, it is v v cheap rug, just to see if we like a rug (we do) but it is WHITE people WHITE we have two children and since dd1 wears footsplints to walk, for which slippers cannot be bought, we cannot have a shoes-off policy in our house (and anyway she uses sticks or a frame so they would have the same effect as shoes)

I vac it and vac it and vac it and vac it

it is full of bits all the bleedin time

WHITE ffs

lesson to learnnever send a man to Ikea and expect him to cope and come home with a good choice.

bubblagirl · 15/01/2008 10:51

could you not put whit rug in your bedroom and replace it with another

my dp would do the same but i think its nice that they try and would just say kindly i'm worried with the kids it'll get ruined how about we move it where ever else it might suit and get a darker one

bless him for trying white is real good with wooden flooring maybe someone advised him on it at least he tried

PalomaPicasso · 15/01/2008 10:51

Well if it was from IKEA it cost a MAX of £80 so what is the problem? Chuck it out and buy a new one or let it get grungy and then chuck it out or buy a new one. Anyway, my point is that it is disposable.

At least he went and bought one. And it he didn't come home with a white one from the Rug Company that cost £8000!

perpetualworrier · 15/01/2008 10:52

You've given him way too much confidence and self-esteem . My Dh would never dare make such a purchase without me.

JossStick · 15/01/2008 10:54

How heavy is it? Can it be dyed??

Susiemj · 15/01/2008 10:55

place a pot of turmeric in your child's hand and guide him towards the rug. make sure he is naked first! [susiemj currently trying to get turmeric out of dh's new polo shirt.....]

lol at £8000 rug!

sparkybabe · 15/01/2008 10:57

Turmeric doens't come out easily. Have you tried the Oxy-clean stuff (hate the advert tho, about the kids grey/white shirts. Who has time to worry that the teachers will notice that the white-looking shirt is in fact light-grey?)

Spink · 15/01/2008 10:59

We've got a white rug (on wooden floors, it DOES (did) look lovely) - bought it pre-baby. Now if I squint when I look at it, and turn the lights down, it still looks fabulous.
So. Perfect your squint and your light twiddling technique, give your dh a squeeze for trying, and GOOD LUCK with your next rug purchase.

lovecat · 15/01/2008 11:00

LMAO @ perpetualworrier!

OrmIrian · 15/01/2008 11:02

Big glass of red wine. Slip on the newly acquired rug and bingo. 'So sorry darling, I'm afraid it's ruined. Never mind we can get another one soon....'

brimfull · 15/01/2008 11:02

oh I made this stupid mistake a few yrs ago

bought gorgeous cream and duck egg blue rug in an insane moment when I forgot I have 2 messy kids and a huge fekkin hairy dog!

Just threw the rug out last week as dry cleaner said it was beyond cleaning

Have bought a cheapo rug with humongous big colourful flowers on it that no one else would buy. Also very impractical.

OrmIrian · 15/01/2008 11:03

I did buy a white duvet set once. And it was after we had children too. It was lovely. For about a week.

Cappuccino · 15/01/2008 11:05

my duvets are white

but they don't put their shoes on those
