Hotel Chocolat chocolate. I've just had the salted caramel puddles and they were nothing to write home about (and I love chocolate).
To be fair, I have plebeian chocolate tastes Blush and it could just be that their milk chocolate has a higher cocoa content than most, and doesn't taste creamy enough.
I still don't enjoy their chocolate though.

Over to you.

People, in general, are exhausting, demanding and self-absorbed.
Family, as above.
Living in the countryside, too far from anywhere, expensive and a nightmare in winter.

Summer, no heatwave and permanently winter even though 4 kms up the road is lovely and sunny.
Tourist season, for us it’s all fishermen, cyclists, motorbikes, motorhomes and slow drivers.
Living in the Edinburgh, dark very early in winter, cold winters (minus 11), very expensive. They couldn’t hide their distain of me and thought I shouldn’t have lived there.
Living in Suffolk, cold in winter, lovely summers though. The people weren’t happy about having an Irish person amongst them.

Krispy crème donuts...

They're too sweet, I can't really tell the difference between the flavours, overpriced compared to £1 for 5 normal ones in the supermarket and for some reason the name is gross but I can't really explain why.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/06/2022 09:52

Oysters (at least the raw ones, might be better cooked)

Not so long ago they were associated with poverty, and no wonder.

Are the people who state items/things/places sure they have actually experienced them though? Some are spectacularly unbelievable. I’m sure some of these are just ‘things I think must be overrated’ !

I agree @aNCforjune
They are nasty and over sweet and really expensive. I've eaten two. The first one I was very underwhelmed. The second one was about a year later as it was on offer and I thought I'd check if it was as bad as the first one. It was. They leave an unpleasant oily sugar taste in your mouth.

IMO a lot of American food (like KK) is really poor quality and over sweet but has very savvy marketing.

@MaddieElla Isn't afternoon tea, just a drink of tea and a scone or have I been doing it wrong for about 40 years?

Me too. On my birthday I’d much rather go out for champagne afternoon tea than dinner in a fancy restaurant which will nearly always be disappointing.

@BloodyHellKen No, that's a cream tea. Afternoon tea is a course of savoury finger foods (mosty sandwiches cut into quarters, but some places mix it up a bit), a course of patisserie & mini-cakes, and a course of scones with cream and jam. Alongside tea, or sometimes champagne. In the bigger places you'll get unlimited refills of all the food you want.

MaddieElla · 20/06/2022 14:10

Yes, it's sandwiches, cake and scones.

I do love the sandwiches. Start to feel a bit full at the sight of the cakes and by the time the scones come out I'm ready to be wheeled home. It's just too much.

Pleased for those that love it though, and I do enjoy the alcohol/tea.😊

@Fink I'd always assumed (incorrectly, I see now) that they were the same thing.
Sandwiches, cakes and tea etc are just know as 'tea' where I'm from 😁
